Starsmith

Well, this was an unexpected treat for a Thursday morning. Alan Braxe’s Vulture Music have announced the release of ElectroPop producer extraordinaire Starsmith’s second single.

‘Lesson One’ isn’t quite what I was expecting from Mr. Smith, it’s better. The track skilfully walks a path that owes, in equal amounts, to French Touch and  LA Dreamwave.  I’m not sure if it’s actually Fin singing on the track, I know he did say he would be singing himself on his album but the vocals, subtly effected, makes up a large part of the dreamy, laidback groove of the track. Much of the tune harks back to the original days of French Touch (no bad thing!), although updated for 21st century Nu-Disco dancefloors and, of course, all wrapped up with that perfect Starsmith ElectroPop sheen. On the whole ‘Lesson One’, co-written and produced with Braxe himself, has tons more funk than I was anticipating, and this just makes me even more excited for Starsmith’s eventual album release.

Starsmith reMixes Gypsy And The Cat

A few weeks ago ElectroPop producer extraordinaire Starsmith did a streaming video studio chat thing. While most of the airtime seemed to be Fin realising it was a bad idea ‘cos he was trying to get on with some work while the internet was shouting at him, the actual track he was working on was very interesting. It was a reMix of Gypsy And The Cat, now quite old, track ‘Jona Vark’. And here it is!

The appearance of this mix and rumors of some other pretty cool reMixers seems to confirm the track is getting a re-release, with this mix at the forefront this tune could go huge. Starsmith walks the line between ElectroPopping up the actual song and getting some deep Moog Disco going. There is so much going on in this song that is really is a credit to Starsmith’s mixing skills that it all sits together so well.

No idea when the ‘Jona Vark’ single is out but it’s still available on Gypsy And The Cat’s album ‘Gilgamesh’

Starsmith Vs. Starsmith

Followers of the UK’s top ElectroPop producer Starsmith on Twitter will remember him mentioning a reMix of his début single ‘Give Me A Break’ he had put together to play at the launch party for the 12”.

Well, he’s now gone and made it available to the public (that’s you lot), so here it is. It’s quite a cool edit, drops and builds in just the right places and an awesome solo line in the finale. I can imagine this went down a treat when he dropped it.

Starsmith – We Leave Tonight

ElectroPop producer extraordinaire turned Nu-Disco celebrity Starsmith has just dropped a new tune over on his SoundCloud. In his own words ‘We Leave Tonight’ is “Just something I was mucking about with…” but we all know that Starsmith mucking about is the ElectroPop equivalent of Picasso doodling on a  napkin…it’s still gonna’ be worth shit loads!

The track is piano led, mid-tempo, chilled builder that defiantly shows there’s more to Fin than bangers and just makes us more exited about a full length record from the man.

Starsmith’s very first video!

We’ve already given you a listen to, ElectroPop producer extraordinaire now maker of slick Nu-Disco, Starsmith’s début single, ‘Give Me A Break’/’Knuckleduster’, and now you can check the video for ‘Give Me A Break’.

Maybe I over analyse, but I couldn’t help thinking ‘flippin’ hell, that must have taken so long in editing!’ while watching this stop-motion insanity.

Anyway, it’s really nicely put together and despite it obviously being set in New York (or somewhere similar) it’s got a nice British Punky fell to it. The use of different print processes for the various animations gives it quite a ‘cut-out fanzine’ vibe which might seem at odds with a smooth soulful disco track, but it’s really really not, it works awesomely!

‘Give Me A Break’/’Knuckleduster’ is released 11th October on limited edition 12”.

Starsmith’s début solo single!

The man had done some of the greatest ElectroPop reMixes of the past few year, for some of Pop’s hottest artists, he has also produced and co-written some of the greatest Pop tracks of the last couple of years.

He’s one of the UK most talented and inspired producers of electronic Pop and Nu-Disco music right now, so why has it taken Starsmith so long to release his solo material?

Who knows, he’s a busy guy, but it’s finally, nearly, here. His début, double A-side 12” of ‘Give Me A Break’/’Knuckleduster’

Annie Mac dropped ‘Give me A Break’ on her show last week. It’s a hell of a lot more Fucked up than I was expecting, bit of it almost filter-House funky with a big soul sample. Frankly, this tune is going to be huge! The flip side, @Knuckleduster’ is more along the lines of my expectations, and it’s a thoroughly awesome, pumping, Nu-Disco epic! Sweet!

‘Give Me A Break’/’Knuckleduster’ is released soon on limited edition 12”.
