Russ Chimes reMixes Per Byhring

Per Byhring

In the past couple of years we’ve come to know Russ Chimes as a man who could do no wrong, responsible for some of the most exciting, flawless reMixes and tunes in recent times. We’re big fans. Recent tracks from the Russ have seen his style evolving, but displaying no less finesse. After a period of quite he[‘s back with a new reMix. Can he keep up his winning streak?

The track in question is his version of Oslo artist Per Byhring’s ‘Ettertid’ and Mr. Chimes nails is. <sarcasm>There’s a surprise</sarcasm>.  Russ whips up a compellingly funky slice of House that contains nods to both his classic Nu-Disco work and his more recent Rave fuelled output. Slick, complex percussion and a deep deep grove provide the prefect, infectious backing for some melodic use of the vocal and playful leads to do their euphoric work.

Russ Chimes reMixes TEETH

teeth

Russ Chimes’s reMixes may be more and more moving away from the retro synth sound but the man ever remains the king of intricate, immaculately produced dance tunes.

His latest reMix, for Dalston nutcases TEETH, is loaded with House, Balearic and surprisingly, euphoric Trance (that riff is pure hands-in-the-air). This track is going to kill at sunrise. The EP also holds reMixes from CSS and Brassica.

Stop what you’re doing, there’s a new Russ Chimes reMix in town.

Saying “Russ Chimes can do no wrong” might be jinxing it, and his next production clould be shit and it would be our fault. But it’s not likely, ‘cos Russ Chimes can do no wrong. The man smashes it again with this new mix of Alex Metric & Charli XCX’s ‘End Of The World’ from Mr. Metric’s forthcoming ‘Open Your Eyes’ album. Russ seem to build and build on this tune, constantly adding layers to the killer riff that will be whipping dancefloors up into a frenzy this summer. Bringing it down briefly with a sweet piano hook and snatches of ElectroPop kook XCX’s vocal before dropping the listener right back into body moving inanity. To say Russ Chimes can move the crowd is a massive understatement.

Russ Chimes’ ‘Tonic’/’Helix’ EP

Russ Chimes’ nearly broke Twitter a couple of weeks ago with a 1m15s teaser of his new EP, my entire timeline went a little mental for a while.

Not without justification though, as with the ‘Tonic’/’Helix’ EP, released this week, Mr. Chimes, once again, shows himself to be head and shoulders above the competition. The EP, as it’s title suggest, is only two tracks (although I suspect a reMix EP is incoming) but two tracks from RC are worth a whole album from some other artists. On ‘Tonic’ we see the man introducing more Ravey elements in to his Disco (as hinted at in his recent reMixes) but never loosing the Funk. The track whips the listener into a dancefloor frenzy before, in the middle-eight, dropping one of the sweetest leads you’ve ever heard then relentlessly kicking you back to the groove. It’s intense stuff, crafted with signature Russ Chimes precision. The flip side, ‘Helix’ is a deep Electro-House track with a Moog Funk bassline and on old school beat that’ll have the dancefloor loosing it’s mind.

Broke One’s ‘Go Go Go’ reMixes from Russ Chimes & Treasure Fingers

The big tunes for your weekend start right here!

Last week Broke One released his new EP, ‘Stop Making Sense’, which features some storming reMixes of the lead track ‘Go Go Go’. Russ Chimes (oh my god, did you hear the preview of his new EP?) drops this reMix that mashed up equal amounts of Funk and Rave. I’ve never heard Chimes sounding so Ravey but the natural groove running through the man’s veins make for the most Disco sounding Rave ever and fitting those Rave sounds and riffs into a solid groove is a stroke of genius. This is guaranteed to get you moving. Treasure Fingers’s mix treats us to a healthy does of Old School House with abrasive 909 beats tempered by smooth Disco strings and a return of  the ‘It Takes Two’ break and some classic House samples.

The electronic rumors awards: electronic rumors’ best video of 2010!!!

Although there were a few videos shortlisted for this accolade, so many stunning, clever clips made this year, there was only ever going to be one winner. Or three.

So, it might be a cop out to have a trilogy of videos win a best video award, but these three clips really need to be viewed together. As much as the three work as well cut, pacey promo videos on their own, it’s together where the non-linier storytelling shines through and you get a real since of the plot, as well as the supernaturally tight editing and beautiful eye.

The winner of electronic rumors best video of 2010 is…

Russ Chimes – Midnight Club trilogy (Never Look Back, Tertre Rouge & Targa)

Directed by Saman Keshavarz and produced by Francis Pollara, the team that had previously brought us the award winning video for Cinnimon Chasers’ ‘Luv Deluxe’ who have this way of capturing the tension in the beautiful.

Accompanying the visuals are the three tracks from Russ Chimes’ ‘Midnight Club’ EP, one of the best releases of the year. It’s three tracks of forward thinking, innovative Nu-Disco that leaves his competitors in the dust.

Russ Chimes; The Midnight Club is finally here!

The wait is finally over! This week Russ Chimes’ ‘Midnight Club’ EP was finally released and it’s so good to have these tracks, we’ve played to death already, in glorious high quality!

Easily on of the best Nu-disco releases of the year (made all the better by a trilogy of amazingly crafted mini movies)  we were exited to see that the release was joined by a reMix EP as well! While we are all totally in love with the original EP track, which seem to tell a story all of their own, without the videos, as Mr. Chimes proves he is one of the most innovative and constantly perfectionist producers working in this genre, the EP provided some pleasant surprizes including this reMix of ‘Targa’ (the whole reMix EP is of ‘Targa’) by Bestrack who actually keeps a lot of the original intact but covers the song in massive synth chords and a band new big ol’ bassline.

The ‘Midnight Club’ EP and is reMix sister are out now. Both are highly recommended!

Russ Chimes – ‘Midnight Club’

Just for the hell of it, so you can watch the entire thing without having to your favourite music site (er…us!), here’s all three parts of Russ Chimes’ ‘Midnight Club’ EP mini-movie, as directed by Saman Keshavarz and produced by Francis Pollara.

Saman and Francis previously created the equally awesome Luv Deluxe video for Cinnamon Chasers, they’ve got this dream like style with an underlying tension that seems to gel really well with electronic music. Let’s how we see more of their work soon.

The ‘Midnight Club’ EP is coming in October on Eye Industries

Russ Chimes ‘Midnight Club’ trilogy complete

Russ Chimes‘ ‘Midnight Club’ EP trilogy is complete. Director Saman Keshavarz’s experiment in non-linier storytelling over three pieces (to accompany the three tracks on Chime’s forthcoming EP) has reached it’s conclusion, the predicted ass kicking in tow.

Getting the girl and killing the baddies is the order of the day with a healthy dose of intrigue and the coolest of cool LA summer backdrop.

Musically the EP sounds awesome, with it being hard to choose between ‘Tertre Rouge’ and this new track ‘Targa’ as my favourite. Either way the ‘Midnight Club’ EP sounds like a masterwork of Nu-Disco.
