Capital Cities’ new single

Capital Cities

Capital Cities are back with summer good time summer grooves for the approaching good weather.

The LA duo’s Dreamwave leaning blend of Indie-Electro not comes complete with a brass section with only adds to the laid back, no-cares-in-the-world, party vibe. ‘Kangaroo Court’ is four minutes of pure sunshine gold. The synths are playful, the vocals quietly anthemic mic, and the horns are just a wave for the listener to ride. We’ve not had much in the way of Indie-Electro classics this year, hopefully this monster from Capital Cities is just the beginning.

Teen Daze’s tour EP

Teen Daze

Brooklyn DreamyChillyPoppyWave producer Teen Daze is about to embark on his European tour and for the occasion has produced a very limited edition tour EP, that will be sold only at the forthcoming gigs.

Here’s the first track from the EP, ‘Fantasy’, that sees Teen Daze take us on a Lo-Fi blissed-out sunrise journey. Chilled, even for Teen Daze, ‘Fantasy’ rides a wave of lush synths and intricate percussion that layer upon each other to create a wall of beautiful electronic noise. ‘Fantasy’ is a smooth, atmospheric masterpiece for those quite times in the sun.

Airwolf reMixes Parachute Youth

Parachute Youth

Australian SynthWave/Disco.Indie-Electro producer Airwolf has been a bit quiet of late, but come storming back with this huge reMix of Parachute Youth’s ‘Awake Now’.

‘Awake Now’ was the B-side to Parachute Youth’s insanely catchy ‘Can’t Get Better Than This’ and Airwolf turns it into a big retro floorfiller. Building the track around some huge synth stabs Airwolf takes the track in mew 80s directions making the track suddenly take on a Rockwell-esque vibe but reMixed for 2008, Big Electro for any era!

Walter Sobcek reMixes Gotye & Kimbra

Kimbra

Gotye and Kimbra’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, remixed to death? Yes. My first instinct is to ignore new reMixes of this track that land in out inbox. It’s done now, get over it, it;s too late to jump on the ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ train. However, I find it very hard to ignore emails from Walter Sobcek, and I’m glad I didn’t.

Their reMix of the track is just really nice, there’s no other way to say it. Sure, we’ve all heard the song enough to last a lifetime, but Walter Sobcek’s laid back beach Disco is a smooth and toting such an addictive groove that you end up just kinda’ sinking into the track. Once again Walter Sobcek proving why they are at top of the Dreamwave pile.

The Robot Scientists’ ‘Black Hole’

The Robot Scientists ft. Lisa

Up next is the first release from brand new Berlin based label Emerald & Doreen, a new collective dedicated to releasing new and interesting SynthWave and Electronic Disco. Their début record comes courtesy of German duo The Robot Scientists, and their Lisa featuring, ‘Black Hole’

‘Black Hole’ is a deep collision of the machine and the human. Robotic beats and post-Italo arpeggios fill a cold and regimented place in the song which is juxtaposed with some particularly Indie guitar work and Lisa’s timid, almost naïve sounding, but hopeful vocals. The electronic contains elements from all over, there’s a lot of ‘90’s dance music in there, some Balearic too and a pulsing analog groove. The reMix package has to be seen to be believed, it’s rammed full of excellent takes on the track, including Irregular Disco Workers’ Italo version which sounds like and EBM/Italo soundclash in a dark European nightclub and Electro master Alexander Robotnick surprisingly funky stripped back Tropical mix. You’ll also find work from our favourite Nu-Italo (is that a ‘thing’ yet?) man Kid Machine, who’s ‘Vocoder Dub’ is featured on the EP, but who’s ‘Vocal Mix’ and ‘Vocoder Mix’ we can present to you right here. His vocal mix is the core of his work here, and may be his best track to date. Like a cyborg Vangelis, Kid Machine conjures up synthetic sounds that in anyone else’s hands might sound distant or inhuman, but the Manc producer instils his Italo influenced arpeggios and sweeps with a rich emotional quality and an atmosphere that goes beyond synthesizer dance music. His ‘Vocoder’ Mix’ builds upon the foundations of his main mix but, with the addition of vocoded vocals, gives the track even more of a dark future vibe.

The Penelopes’ ‘Sally In The Galaxy’ video

Here’s the video for The Penelopes’ ElectroPop gem ‘Sally In The Galaxy’, out next month on Pour Le Monde Records.

The track is really fun and off-kilter so director Saman Keshavarz had a lot to live up to, and seems to have managed to capture the madcap vibe of the song really well.

‘Sally In The Galaxy’ is released 16th April on Pour Le Monde Records.

Neon Indian’s new single

Neon Indian

Neon Indian has announced the next single from his ‘Era Extraña’ album will be ‘Hex Girlfriend’, a limited edition lime-green vinyl 7” release for this years Record Store Day preceding it’s general release.

‘Hex Girlfriend’ is a pretty raucous nostalgic teenage anthem. Both musically and lyrically reminiscent of days gone by. Alan Palomo layers retro synths with heavy bass and a chilled garage vocal for a real rawness. Despite being mostly electronic ‘Hex Girlfriend’ has a live, grittiness to it that only further brings the mod of the track.

♫ Neon Indian – Hex Girlfriend (Radio Edit)

‘Hex Girlfriend’ is taken from Neon Indian’s sophomore album ‘Era Extraña’ and the single will be released generally 28th May.

JBAG reMix Housse De Racket

Housse-de-Racket

So, you’ve already hear the Mickey and Hey Champ! reMixes of Housse De Racket’s forthcoming ‘Château’ single, here’s the one we’ve been waiting for, London’s ElectroPop champion’s JBAG take the stage.

True to their ‘Hot Pop’ reMixes of old, JBAG bring a deep, rounded, funk to the mix and their ElectroPop sheen. this is definitely my favourite of the reMixes so far, that bassline is so early ‘90’s DancePop yet somehow evolves into something more Disco as the track progresses. This track just makes you want to hit the dancefloor and reminds us why we fell in love with JBAG and Boombox back in 2007/08.

The ‘Château’ single will be “out soon” on Kitsuné Music.

She’s The Queen reMixes Stars

Stars

She’s The Queen are pretty much family now, so everything the release had better be amazing or it’s gonna’ get pretty awkward around here pretty quickly. Luckily that’s not a bridge we’ve had to cross yet as showcased by their latest track, a reMix of Montreal based Indie-Electro outfit Stars’ ‘We Don’t Want Your Body’, which is (thankfully) amazing.

She’s The Queen’s Drew shows off his production chops one again with this mix, taking the raucous original and reeling it in to a slick summery ElectroPop class act. The layers of synth here are all perfectly balanced, the punch bass and sparking leads all sitting comfortable with each other and the vocals, which take on a whole new inflection in this setting. Check it out.
