[Download] Cavaliers Of Fun reMixes Gwen Stefani’s ‘Baby Don’t Lie’

GwenStefani

Mediterranean Dreamwaver Cavaliers Of Fun is has just dropped this brand new sunshine-y reMix to warm your ears this winter. Ricco has been quite quiet for a while, but he’s chosen to remind you all of his holiday vibes with this take on Gwen Stefani’s ‘comeback’ single of earlier this year, Baby Don’t Lie.

Ricco keeps a lot of the original intact on his version, the vocals, backing vocals and lead line are all present and correct; but added to this you have both the Cavaliers Of Fun pumping Disco bass, and Vitali’s disturbing love of beach guitar. The end result is a version of the single with the groove turned up to 10, it’s not a massive departure from Stefani’s vision, but enough to make it supremely dancefloor friendly.

[Audio] XO’s ‘Pulling Me Under’

XO

The London crew is all getting together for this one, rising retro-House producer XO is gearing up to release his début EP, Though The Night, at the start of next month and for the record’s second track (after last month’s title track unveiling) track he’s enlisted the help of Mr. Leo Kalyan on vocal duties for a song that was co-penned by songwriter extraordinaire MNEK. This is Pulling Me Under.

Pulling Me Under is a slow groover, a warm and laid back late night jam. Combining Kalyan’s future R&B croon with some involving Deep House sounds; all slotted into an simple and infectious Pop song. The driving forces of the music are all understated and emotion, like the gentle piano hook the runs throughout that contrasts nicely with the feet moving beat. XO is definitely on our radar as one to watch now.

[Audio] Tesla Boy’s ‘Keyboards & Synths’

Tesla Boy

Russian kings of funk infused ElectroPop, Tesla Boy’s new single is an ode to synths. Which we guess if like some old Rock dude singing about how much he loves guitars. Frankly, we can think of few better subject matters for songs. “I’m not so cool or happy, I’m gonna’ sing about keyboards and synths” has surely got to be one of the best lyrics ever written, no?

Loaded with Tesla Boy’s trademark synth funk, Keyboards & Synths serves-up everything we look for in a new tune from these guys. That big squelchy analog bass, warbling keys, Disco beats; there even a slight Electro-Funk vibe to the bridge. Tesla Boy have always, from day one, been able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Chromeo, maybe it’s time for them to be as huge?

[Audio] Chela’s ‘Handful Of Gold’

Chela

Australian ElectroPopster Chela is back with a new Single. Having got on-board with IHC 1NFINITY, the new label from Franki Chan’s IHEARTCOMIX media empire, Chela looks poised to blow up in America where she’s been putting in some serious gigging time since here releases with Kitsuné. Handful Of Gold is Chela’s most self-assured release to date.

Starting proceedings with some glorious synth noodling (that we could stand to hear some more of!) Handful Of Gold swiftly launches into a post-Tropical ElectroPop monster. Peppering the track with very early 80s references amongst contemporary poolside Disco DNA, Chela delivers something that effortlessly straddles the line between classic Pop and dancefloor mayhem. These slick beats are, of course, topped with Chela’s unique, tongue-in-cheek style; being the thing that really sets her apart from her contemporaries, she’s injects her tracks with personality.

[Audio] Dart Party’s ‘Going My Way’

dart party

Released late last week was the début single from Queens based producer Dart Party. Dart Party is the latest signing to Crazy Heart Records, the imprint owned by Ghost Beach, and for that reason we were debating featuring the track as we have zero respect for Ghost Beach after they used the very serious debate around artists being fairly compensated for their hard work in a cheap PR stunt to sell their latest record. They, and their American Eagle Outfitters paid-for billboard in Times Square set musicians arguments back a few years, essentially shitting on their ‘fellow’ musicians in an attempt to get e few more YouTube hits. It was an absolute joke that showed how little respect Ghost Beach has for music. However, Dart Party’s Going My Way is so good, you should ignore his label connotations and just sink into this luscious deep Disco and House goldmine.#

It’s Going My Way’s bassline that really grabs you here. A punchy retro synth bass that dominates the track and imbues it with a bouncy, yet gritty, vintage funk. It’s deep, but not Deep House deep, moreover it’s warm and enveloping, a sound to get lost in on the dancefloor. The spacious, distant vocal snatches lend the track a warehouse flavour. Going My Way, is a severely solid début that is well worth checking out. (Apologies for the Ghost Beach rant, they pissed off a lot of musicians though. Put it this way, if they annoy us that much and we still write about an artist on their label, then that artist must be pretty special!)

[Audio] Little Boots’ ‘Taste It’

little boots

Business Pleasure. That’s the title of the forthcoming new EP from the awesome Little Boots. We weren’t expecting brand new material so soon (given the length of time between albums one and two), the the early December release will be a nice pre-X-mas present. Victoria has just unveiled the EP’s lead track, Taste It. Which, after her experience with Disco, Pop and House, is surprisingly the most ecclectic song she has produced to date.

There a Grimes-like experimentalism to Taste It, alongside and Scandinavian MØ-ness, but this new avant-garde injection never overshadows Victoria’s ease with pure Pop music. In fact, she finds a certain harmony between the left-field and the Pop that seemed to have escaped others in the genre. Taste It is a hypnotic, bass pulsating, tribal rhythmed electronic dream led by Little Boots mantra vocals. It’s like nothing we’ve ever heard from Little Boots, and it’s exciting to hear her flex her creative muscles without the constraints of label pressure. Also, Com Truise had a hand in production, which is pretty awesome.
