[Video] Ronika’s ‘Marathon’ (+ The Penelopes reMix)

Ronika Marathon YouTube

We’re being treated to so much new Ronika these days. Here most recent shimmering offering Marathon is out this week, backed with a reMix from The Penelopes and B-sided with World Is Turning. Which is all amazing. But wait; there’s more! Here’s one of Ronika’s inspired DIY videos.

Directed by Al Mackay, the clip is almost note perfect for indecipherable late 70s/early 80s European TV as Ron guests on a Mediterranean chatshow. Not sure they get it.

Speaking of The Penelope’s reMix. Wrap your lug-holes around this one. The London based Frenchmen lay down the Synth Disco thick with pounding beats and heavy Electro bass amidst Ronika’s cheeky Boogie.

[Audio] Hippo Disco’s ‘Falling’ & ‘Answering Machine’

hippo-disco

Here’s something to treat your ear to this weekend. Say hello to Hippo Disco. This trio are the newest additions to the electronic rumors family and we realised, shamefully, that we hadn’t properly introduced you. Roodmin, Oochi & Vinski are three Scots living in Tokyo (and Bali) who have slowly but surely been making a name for themselves; most recently having delivered a storming official reMix of Etienne De Cercy’s We, Computers. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for news of their début EP, and in the meantime check out two choice cuts.

Falling is pure Disco bliss. Effortlessly combining wicked Disco licks with dreamy Balearic keys, Falling has got both the groove and a euphoric sweep. There’s just no way you can resist being drawn into it;s six minute dancefloor dream. Hippo Disco have a knack of making ecclectic and left-field Disco that takes influences from anywhere and doesn’t play by the rules. If Answering Machine doesn’t prove that to you nothing will. Plus music nerd points, but minus cool points, if you know where the bassline comes from. Abrasive and funky as hell all at the same time. Hold tight for the EP!

Ali Love’s P.U.M.P. album is amongst our favourite LPs of the year. Oof the record’s arresting highlights, Picture Perfect, with it’s Sci-Fi analog Rave vibes, has been given a striking video treatment.

Matilda Finn directed the clip, a dizzying and glamorous hazy nightclub fantasy.

[Audio] The Sanfernando Sound reMixes Foreign Boy’s ‘Dance Like A Light’

foreign-boy_thumb

One of the surprise groovers of the summer, London’s Foreign Boy’s Dance Like A Light, is set to receive a new lease of life with a follow up reMix collection. Once again coming courtesy of Nude Disco, the Italo Disco monster gets some heavyweight working over from the likes of LosBikini, Sex On TV, SunnySunday and this juggernaut from our pal The Sanfernando Sound. Listen in.

In contrast to Foreign Boy’s decidedly British take on Italo, The Sanfernando Sound delivers an European epic, complete with thunderous EBM basslines and EuroDance leads, all wrapped up in a retro Disco package. Foreign Boy’s robo-vocals fit this soundtrack perfectly, forming a hypnotic mantra until they give way tot he soaring synth solo. The whole reMix package is currently available on Bandcamp, you should check it out.

[Audio] Jordan F reMixes KLP’s ‘Medicine’

KLP

Australian SynthWaver Jordan F swings back into the groove this week with his entry in a currently running reMix competition. The subject is fellow Aussie KLP’s current single Medicine; a booming slice of Future R&B that’s been doing some big things recently. Check out what some of electronic music’s finest unsung talents does with the sprawling tune as he drags it to the dancefloor.

Jordan hits the Synth Disco sound hard with his reMix. Rolling on an pumping bass with a head nodding pattern, Jordan keeps the lows heavy and the highs breezy to create a nostalgic slice of poolside that sounds perfect with KLP’s vocals. But wait, there’s more, switching things up a little two thirds of the way though, Jordan treats us to an Italo infused retro finale. Staying loyal to his SynthWave roots, but bringing something new to the table. You can vote for Jordan F’s entry in the reMix competition here.

[Audio] AIMES’ ‘Burnin”remixed by Tronik Youth

aimes1

This week one of Brooklyn’s finest purveyors of synthesizer goodness AIMES drops his new release via Wonder Stories. It’s a companion to his huge single of earlier this year, Burnin’  featuring five new versions of the tune. This new reMix collection brings together such talent as Auxiliary Tha Masterfader, A Copycat, Perdido Key, Rocco Desentis; and this grinding monster from London Electro hounds Tronik Youth.

As you’ll no doubt be aware, the original was a driving and summery House tune that featured some soulful vocals from NY resident Javi; this is completely flipped as Tronik Youth give the track an East London basement club vibe. A stuttering and ominous Electro rework that despite being abrasive and relentless retains a cheeky charm. Chainsaw synths and squealing leads replace the poolside sounds of the original as Tronik Youth put together a strobe-light oddessy for the early hours. Now there’s a Burnin’ for every occasion!

Röyksopp’s final release in the album format, the aptly titled The Inevitable End has been out as few weeks now and is looking set to be one of our favourite albums of the year. The first track taken from the record, Skulls, has now got it’s own music video. Imagine that!

Norwegian director and long time collaborator Stian Andersen delivers a suitably eerie clip. Cabin in the woods, Röyksopp style.

Röyksopp’s The Inevitable End is released on November.

[Download] Mild Peril’s ‘The Sentinel’

mild-peril_thumb

Last year SpaceSynth maestro Mild Peril snuck onto our X-Mas playlists with his epic instrumental take on Walking In The Air, Airwalking, from his Themes EP. This year, after the release of his Matter album, he’s back in a radial reworking (and slightly festive) mood in his just released The Sentinel single. The release contains two tracks, both homages to the works of Mike Oldfield, one of Mild Peril’s biggest influences, in this instance he takes on Sentinel from Tubular Bells II and In The Pool.

The Sentinel (Tubular Bells II) is a sprawling synthesizer epic (but then again all Mild Peril’s works are), and is bizarrely X-Massy. We say ‘bizarrely’ because it;s not at all X-Massy, yet manages to really be. Yeah, that doesn’t make sense, but once you listen to it you’ll see what we mean. It’s ominous tones and dramatic leads all become sort of comforting and as Mild Peril himself says “because if you do pretty much anything on a tubular bell sound, it will sound like Christmas”. He’s got a point. The Pool is more of a dancefloor Italo classic, dripping with European 80s flair as cheeky snyth riffs dance around each other and a pure Pop bassline. The prefect counterpoint to it’s flip side. Did we mention it’s a free release? Go grab yourself some synth goodness.

Ice Choir

Right you lot, it’s nearly December and you know what that means; time to start thinking about your X-Mas playlists. Unfortunately this year we won’t be releasing another utterly amazing X-Mas EP, maybe next year (although that doesn’t stop you buying X-Mas Rumors this year, it’s for a good cause!). Still that doesn’t mean you have to sit around in the chilly Winter months, surrounded by presents, booze and friends yet feeling oddly out-of-sorts listening to poolside Disco. Cascine have got your back!

The next release in their 7” single series comes from Wham!, or perhaps it’s ChillSynthPopser Ice Choir, and is a two track release called Pure Holiday. The vinyl holds two tracks, Cut Down The Tree, and this dreamy tune It’s Different Now. With a woozy bassline that reminds us of Bowie’s As The World Falls Down from the Labyrinth soundtrack (as do the chimes for that matter) that’s been neatly slid into an 1985 easy Pop classic It’s Different Now is kinda’ last song at an X-Mas Disco music. SO mistletoe time! Best of all, all proceeds from the release will be going to Coalition For The Homeless. Do the right thing!
