Ren Riz & Jesus H Macy

I don’t know why, but we’ve never featured Ren Riz on electronic rumors, which strikes me as odd seeing as his recent ‘Swamp’ single was pretty awesome and got a lot of play here.

Anyway, the Australian producer is back in a team up with Jesus H Macy and a huge Janet Jackson sampling Disco tune. Seriously, this is the feel-good track of the week. Build around the vocal hook from Jacksons ‘When I Think Of You’ the guys have created a massive Nu-Disco monster with just the right amount of French Touch.

Enjoy!

AXXE’s new EP

Today see the release of Canada’s finest sleazy DiscoPop duo AXXE ’s début ‘proper’ EP on Montreal house label Mile End Records.

Titled ‘Mainstream’ the EP is a collection of reMixes from their self released double A-side single ‘Hard Candy’/’S.A.T,.U.R.D.A.Y. Night’ that wend down so well with us early in the year. Featuring the skills of the likes of Worship, Neon Workout, Cavaliers Of Fun, Zakolski, Meroz and these two reMixes here. Dave Allison bring his appropriately named ‘Disco Dust Dub’ to the EP, which is, as it sounds, a deep Disco groove and a real 4am on the dancefloor track. Blond:ish & Stephen Hoffman reMix is altogether Techier, and is pure Big Room House goodness.

Alpha Boy

Berlin’s Alpha Boy is one of the coolest producers I have come across in recent months.

This 25 year old Xibalba first dipped his 80’s inspired toe in the waters of electronic music making when he received a PlayStation 1 and Music 2000 for X-mas, the rest is a history that is still being written. Falling in, mostly with the Dreamwave crowd, Alpha Boy is even more 80’s influenced, citing the likes of Harold Faltermeyer as an influence. These influences drive him to create danceable, yet strongly emotive, retro synth music.

He’s just releasing a new EP, ‘The Return Of 1986’, which perfectly showcases his cinematic brand of Electro. Check out these two tracks. ‘Stardust’ is an deep, analog, spacesynth tune with an almost EBM-esq driving force layered with sweeping optimistic lead lines while ‘The Wraith 1986’ (presumably named for the awesome Movie featuring the even more awesome Sherilyn Fenn!) is an epic midnight drive of a tune with hints of ChipTune amongst the surging leads.

Electrosexual & Mz. Sunday Luv

Electrosexual, who we featured on the site back in the day, had teamed up with Mz. Sunday Luv to release a brand new single.

‘I Feel Love’ is more of Electrosexual’s slightly left of centre Electro-House. Taking in influences from across the dance music board you can heard bits of Acid and Techno amongst the hypnotic Electro track. Mz. Luvs sultry vocals add a smokey, dreamlike quality to the track and a touch of danger. The B-side, ‘Play With Fire’ is more of an 80’s take on their sound with a dominant analog bassline underpinning the tune.

Fancy covering the new Mason & Róisín Murphy track?

In a world where reMix competitions have become commonplace it’s nice to see someone mixing it up a little bit.

Mason (they of the awesome track with Princess Superstar a few years ago) are releasing a new single featuring the vocal talents of none other than ElectroPop queen Róisín Murphy and to celebrate they are inviting their listeners to show off their interpretations of the track. The winner of the contest, which they are calling a ‘Refurb competition’,  will get their version released through Mason’s own Animal Language imprint. A Refurb is, in their own words “…not remixes in the usual sense but completely new interpretations of the original track done in any style that takes their fancy.”, back in the real world we call that a ‘cover version’, but semantics aside it could be a chance to have a little fun with the track.

You can listen to the original here, it’s actually a really cool tune, Róisín’s dreamlike vocals are always welcome.

♫ Mason (Feat. Róisín Murphy) – Boadicea

Entries must be submitted by 1st December to info@animal-language.com with the subject ‘Refurb Róisín’, more info on the SoundCloud page.

The ‘Boadicea’ single (featuring your cover?) will be released early March 2011.

Black Van Vs. The Glass

This week sees the release of New York/Berlin based duo The Glass’ début album.

Titled ‘At Swim Two Birds’, you can stream the album on the bands SoundCloud, is 10 tracks of cool garage Disco, raw and funky. Dark at times but always with a rad bassline. Better still is the reMix of of ‘Four Four Letter’ by Black Van (Kris Menace and KoweSix from Moonbootica) who layer up the huge synth chords in this killer Nu-Disco/House track.

The Glass – Four Four Letter (Black Van reMix)

The Glass’ ‘At Swim Two Birds’ is out now on Plant Music in the US, us rest-of-the-world citizens will have to wait until early next year.
