[Audio] GotSome’s ‘Bassline’

GotSome

Bristol House duo GotSome have been racking up some serious radio play in recent months. Their forthcoming début single, Bassline, has not only been championed by both Annie Mac and B.Traits and MistaJam but has also been picked up by Defected for a release later this month. One half of GotSome happens to be Alex from Substatic, so, y’know, at least he’s got an excuse for the lack of Substatic tunes recently.

As moody and atmospheric as it is infectiously danceable, Bassline mixes up a little Chicago, a little Acid and a little Balearic all rolled up in a decidedly UK package. Get Along Gang provide some ear worm vocals that flow with the pumping bassline and retro future keys. There’s a good chance you may have already heard this tune over the summer, and with release date looming it looks set for big things.

[MP3] Strangers’ ‘Fires’

strangers

OK, so, where are we now? It’s October already? How time flies. So that’s only three more months of free tracks from London SynthPop heroes Strangers before X-mas. We’d better crack on with October’s then. It’s called Fires, as usual you can download it from Strangers’ website, and it’s very autumnal.

How is it autumnal? Well, it’s hard to put your finger on what it is, but it’s kinda’ melancholy, and kinda’ crunchy too. That’s autumn, right? Easing you in with some brooding piano and shuffling purcussion, Strangers soon pull out all the stops to deliver a rousing SynthPop beast that seems to rise and rise in it’s dramatic structure. The now familiar elements of Strangers Industrial rhythms, cinematic instrumentation and unusually infectious groove are all present and correct, but seem to get slicker and slicker with each release. I’ve just realised there’s is easily an albums worth of Strangers material out there now, so I’m off to make a pretend Strangers album.

[Audio] Ali Love’s ‘Another’

Ali Love

Ali Love’s forthcoming new single for Crosstown Rebels is released later this month. He;s apparently not burnt himself out working with Hot Natured and is ready to deliver his next batch of solo material. Back to the soulful ElectroPop, he’s bring with him some Hot Creations flavours House vibe too. Another follow Ali’s last single, March’s Emperor and precedes a forthcoming album early next year.

Another rolls along of a shuffling House beat, growling deep tones and a Chicago-esque melody. A brooding and infectiously danceable backing for Ali’s lament. His heartfelt croon gliding across the strobe light dance track like silk. The single comes loaded with reMixes from the likes of Tuff City Kids (aka Gerd Janson & Phillip Laur) and the inimitable Felix Da Housecat, it looks like this tune could be a big one for the winter months.

Toro Y Moi Rose Quartz YouTube

The latest slice of funky Chillwave coming from camp Toro Y Moi is Rose Quartz, a blissful commination of laid back Disco and cosmic synth psychedelia.

The video is also suitably psychedelic as a performance clip gets art-ified and a bit creepy

Rose Quartz is the fourth single off Toro Y Moi’s third full-length album, Anything In Return, out now.

[Audio] Absolute Valentine’s ‘Sunset Love’ EP

Absolute Valentine

Sunset Love is the début EP from SynthWaver Absolute Valentine. Hailing from Marseille in France, this one-man project is new on the scene, but is already producing some serious competition demolishing retro synth tunes. Mixing up quite hard groves with romantic leads, Absolute Valentine’s Sunset Love is an absorbing seven tracks of nostalgic bliss. Seven tracks! That’s nearly an album!

Absolute Valentine’s music nicely retains a French Electro feel to it whist applying that to rich 80s inspired SynthWave. The result being pounding, dancefloor beats with waves of romantic leads and emotional pads. The opener, and EP’s title track, Sunset Love is exemplary of this. Big undulating synths roll around the track, a punchy Italo bassline counterpointed by chainsaw leads, but in amongst this are cascades of bright, evocative, synth leads. She’s A Dancer introduces a little funk to Absolute Valentine’s sound, working a hint of French Touch into the SynthWave. Pummelling machine beats juxtaposed with starlight melodies wrapped up in a slight B-boy swing. One of the EP’s standouts for us was the closing track, Where Angel Fly, which has a little bit of a Jarre’s Zoolook vibe to it and explored a different side of 80s Pop, showing off some retro-innovative sampling and and thick, full, synth sounds. Absolute Valentine’s Sunset Love EP is definitely worth checking out if you want sounds from the SynthWave frontline.

[MP3] Touch Tone reMixes Dive In’s ‘Let Go’

Dive In

Here’s the latest dollop of sunkissed synth Disco from our Robo-Boogie overlord Touch Tone. This time the funkster has turned his attention to quaint Glastonbury based rockers Dive In’s recent single Let Go, a gangly affair in the vein of major label summer IndiePop ‘hits’ that’s given a warm and pulsating treatment from Andrew that slowly build layers of toasty synths.

Stating off gently, with a moody kick and lush pads, every few bars Touch Tone introduces a new element to the mix until you head is nodding along to a Piano House tinged Dreamwave monster. Really, despite the bouncy piano line that admittedly does get stuck in your head, this one’s all about those sweeping pads and little arpeggiated melodies that make up the tunes ambient soundtrack, it’s a pure carefree sunshine concoction that lends it’s laid back vibe to the rest of the song, smoothing everything out.

[Audio] Justin Faust’s ‘Space Rhumba’

Justin Faust

It’s been awhile since we’d had a new release from German Nu-Discomeister Justin Faust, but this week Discotexas release the man’s new single, Space Rhumba. Prepare for some cosmic Latin rhythms backed by reMixes from Discotexas’ own Xinobi and Swiss producer Mercury.

This one’s a straight-up party starter. The combination of Latin purcussion and sweeping galactic Disco synths makes for a unique, and hard to ignore, sound. It’s got a vibe unlike anything you would have heard recently, like Miami meets Paris with a head nodding bassline and a rhumba fuelled piano lead. Xinobi’s take on the track into a sweet piano led groover loaded with wicked Disco licks and a clicky Electro beat. Definitely one for the crate.
