Goin’ Old School: Kraftwerk, New Order & Jungle Brothers

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

After years in the German underground. Kraftwerk were basically saying “Hello world, here we are’ with 1982’s ‘The Model’, the coolest people in the world took notice.

New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ from1983, still the biggest selling 12” of all time, here’s the original video.

Jungle Brothers, amongst others, in 1988 thought Hip-House was a good idea with the Todd Terry produced ‘I’ll House You’.

Bright Light Bright Light’s new single

Fear not, Bright Light Bright Light hasn’t forsaken us, in fact he’s back with a brand new, insanely catchy, new single ‘Waiting For The Feeling’.

Check out the video, which is as pleasingly ‘90’s as the track itself. Alun Davies directs this clip which may or may not be about training for the Olympics.

‘Waiting For The Feeling’’ is out now ahead of the début BLX2 album, ‘Make Me Believe In Hope’, out 4th June.

The Penelopes’ ‘Sally In The Galaxy’ video

Here’s the video for The Penelopes’ ElectroPop gem ‘Sally In The Galaxy’, out next month on Pour Le Monde Records.

The track is really fun and off-kilter so director Saman Keshavarz had a lot to live up to, and seems to have managed to capture the madcap vibe of the song really well.

‘Sally In The Galaxy’ is released 16th April on Pour Le Monde Records.

Kaleid’s new video

Kaleid are a Berlin based synth experimentalist outfit who’s recent single, ‘The Unicorn’ was reMixed by Bristol born Italo-Disco producer Antoni Maiovvi.

That reMix has not got itself a video. It’s a homage to Fulci’s Una Lucertola Con La Pelle Di Donna and does an awesome job of capturing the mood of the dark, and slightly unsettling, robotic Disco of ‘The Unicorn’.

Sneaky Sound System’s ‘Really Want To See You Again’ video

Here’s the video for Sneaky Sound System’s forthcoming single ‘Really Want To See You Again’.

Price James at Black Dog Productions directs this particularly ‘90’s, and a bit tongue-in-cheek,  looking clip.

‘Really Want To See You Again ‘ is out now on Modular Recordings.

Goin’ Old School: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Cabaret Voltaire & Heaven 17

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark kick us off today with 1980’s ‘Messages’, don’t they look young!

One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite bands. ‘Crackdown ‘ from Cabaret Voltaire in 1983.

Not out favourite Heaven 17 song, but easily their best known is 1982’s ‘Temptation’,

Dizkopolis’ ‘Class Of ‘91’ video

We love Malaysian duo Dizkopolis’ ‘Class Of ‘91’, so it’s pretty cool to see the track now has a video.

The clip comes courtesy of director Ahmad Faris who was chosen by the TV channel Astro Hitz’ Music Video grant program, and he’s done an awesome job with this real life video game. Malaysia looks amazing!

Orbital & Zola Jesus

I’m still in two minds about the forthcoming Orbital comeback album, but their new single, ‘New France’ with Zola Jesus is growing on me.

It’s definitely a step in the right direction, I have been a massive Orbital fan in the past, but am concerned they might struggle to stay relevant. If the whole album is like ‘New France’ my fears may be unfounded.

‘New France’ is released 19th March.

Kris Menace’s ‘eFeel’ video

Kris Menace has enlisted legendary buzzsaw producers and VJs Hexstatic to produce the visual video for his latest single, the KoweSix featuring “eFeel”.

Based around a train journey from Osaka to Tokyo, Hexstatic’s style words really well with Kris’ lush dancefloor euphoria.

‘eFeel’ is taken from Kris’ forthcoming album ‘Electric Horizon’, out 16th April on Compuphonic.
