Lo-Fi-Fnk reMixes Foster The People

fosterthepoeple

Foster The People’s summer anthem ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ had been giving a quirky ElectroPop treatment by Sweden’s super duo Lo-Fi-Fnk.

Dropping some breaks and some looping piano gives the track a cool 90’s Rave vibe underneath the big clubby ElectroPop. For all the chaotic meeting of styles here the end product is pretty slick and laidback giving Foster The People a Scandinavian summer sheen.

M83 & Christian Strobe

m83

We haven’t been able to stop playing M83’s new tune, and taster of his forthcoming album, all week. Now, thanks to Christian Strobe, fresh from his new single release, we can listen to it in new exciting ways.

Just as 80’s as the original but turning the synths up to 11, for example replacing the sax solo with a soaring synth lead, this reMix strips out the Indie elements of the original and morphs it into pure ElectroPop. The lead really is the counterpoint of the track, when it kick in, epicness ensues.

M83 – Midnight City (Christian Strobe reMix)

Christian Strobe’s ‘Midnight Call’ single is out now on 12” and drops on the 22nd July digitally.

‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’, M82’s forthcoming album, is released 18th October.

:kinema: reMix My Tiger, My Timing

My Tiger, My Timing

Our favourite Brightonian soulful Electro DiscoPoppers :kinema: have reMixed My Tiger, My Timing’s latest single ‘Endless Summer’.

An antidote to rainy grey holidays the track is pure summer nostalgia and :kinema: take that feeling to the next level with their typically smooth sound. The chilled Yacht vibe is prefect for a song about summer good times. The Balearic piano, the Disco strings, the late 80’s electronic R&B bass, it all makes for the perfect combination. the only question is when are we going to get an album from :kinema:?

D.Gookin

d.gookin

I’m not sure what to make of New Haven electronic producer D.Gookin. I’ve been grooving to his new tune ‘Unbraid the Knot’ all morning, but it’s a confusing beast.

D.Gookin, A.K.A. Mike Birnbaum seems to have taken a chaotic, breaks inspired experimental dance track and crammed it into the box of a sweet melodic Electro Soul tune, and the end result really works. The big noisy beats and distorted percussion are off set by smooth vocoding and a catchy riff. ‘Unbraid The Knot’ has a raw sound, this just tends to add to it’s charm. D.Gookin reportedly has an intense live show, this I can believe.

Franklin’s new tune

franklin

This is Franklin’s new track, of which we know very little about.

It’s taken from his Wool Recordings album ‘Artificial light’, due out later this year, and shows Franklin at him most intimate and electronic. This chilled piece is stripped down to the core of one man and his synthesizers and is strangely hypnotic. That analog bassline is so enveloping.

Franklin’s album is due out in October this year.

Aimes

aimes

Aimes is the alter-ego of Brooklyn producer Aman Ellis who is about to release the first single from his forthcoming album, ‘Your Floor Is Now a Tree’.

‘Every Time When I see You’ is classy, analog, vocal DiscoPop, with a strong 80’s feel. The bassline come straight from early 80’s Pop and provides the backbone for a whole range of influences to play over. Disco guitar riffs, Tropical percussion, hints of Acid and lush Nu-Disco synths that maybe shouldn’t always work together here intertwine naturally with the 80’s style vocals. The B-side ‘Is A Good Friend?’ is a slow burner sample heavy Disco Jam with a squelchy summer bassline and a relaxed groove. Complex and multi-layered, ‘Is A Good Friend?’ is an early hours tune for the come down.

New music from The New Division

thenewdivision

Out today is the new single from The New Division, the southern Californian four piece who we called ‘the bridge between Minimal Synth and Dreamwave’ last time we wrote about them.

Their new track, ‘Opium’ continues in that tradition. Deep and dark but with more of a LA flavoured groove than many of their contemporaries. I really wouldn’t know where to categorise The New Division, drawing on as much LA Disco in their sound as UK Post Punk and European SynthPop. And that what I love about them, ‘Opium’ even had a slightly 90’s House thing going on in there. It’s like they’ve taken Minimal Synth, got it drunk and taken it to the club and tried to explain Joy Division while dancing to Moroder. Check out ‘Opium’, it’s got a bit of everything.

John McSwain mixture of storytelling and abstract imagery fit in nicely with Computer Magic’s dreamy ElectroPop, giving the whole video and slightly otherworldly feel.
