Alpha Boy’s new EP

Awesome German retro synth wizard Alpha Boy returns this month with a brand new EP, titled ‘Douce Folie’!

Alpha Boy has put the last year of writing and releasing 80’s inspired Synth tunes to good use as all his influences are poured into new EP. Inspired by everything 80’s, from Modern Talking and Phil Collins to episodes of Knight Rider, Alpha Boy would probably be and easiest fit in the Dreamwave scene, but his music stems from a more musically nostalgic place than that. Not necessarily trying to invent 80’s music for contemporary times, AB wraps up his love of 80’s synthesiser music into a style that he sees fit, and it’s a style that, although would work well on the dancefloor, isn’t  exactly dance music. It would be better to say that it’s a danceable synthesiser odyssey that has as much in common with Jean Michel-Jarre as it does with Kavinsky.

Here we have the track ‘Glam’ with its intertwining melodies and slightly oriental feel (again there is JMJ as a point of reference). Alpha Boy’s goal in life is to share with his listeners “a touch of the great feeling of the 80’s”…well, mission accomplished!

Here is the video for Pacific!’s ‘Unspoken’, which features a turn from El Perro Del Mar.

You can read the story behind the tune here, the video actually does quite a good job of capturing the narrative without being too obvious.

The video was directed by Ben Roth.

The Swiss reMix Tyson

The Swiss are back!

The Aussie Disco outfit have put their not-inconsiderable skills to good use in reMixing UK mystery man Tyson’s new tune, ‘Out Of My Mind’. ‘Out Of My Mind’ is, in it’s various forms, doing the rounds a lot right now but this reMix tops the lot. shuffling Disco drums, a rolling arpeggiated bassline, power retro stabs and shimmering lead lines, what more do you need on the dancefloor? Tyson’s haunted vocal delivery just adds another layer to the mix. Six minutes of pure groove.

Tyson’s  “Out Of My Mind” is out now on Back Yard Recordings.

Tareq reMixed by MiGHty mOUse

It’s been a while since we featured Greek ElectroPopster Tareq, the man is back with a new single on Undo, a duet with Natassa Bofiliou called ‘Feel Me’

The track has had funking over by the almighty MiGHty mOUse, who layer on their trademark organic Nu-Disco. Raw and live grooves make the track float along and provide the prefect 70’s Moog funk backdrop for the track.

MNDR’s ‘Cut Me Out’ video

MNDR’s recent free single ‘Cut Me Out’ is now available in video form.

Simple yet effective the video is pretty much a tour of a bunch of video effects on Amanda’s head. It never feels uninspired though and works quite well.

You can pick up the full quality version of ‘Cut Me Out’ at Green Label Sound.

The Sound Of Arrows’ ‘Nova’ reMixes

Sweden’s ruling SynthPop act, The Sound Of Arrows, forthcoming 90’s-Euphoric-Trance sounding single ‘Nova’ s release date draws near we are getting out first plays of some of the reMixes.

It’s not my favourite Sound Of Arrows track, although I love the video and the song itself is pretty awesome, some of the big hands-in-the-air trance riffs sound really out of place in the 21st century. I’m hoping this is a one off song and not a new direction for the duo. One of the more interesting reMixes comes from II Figures, who turn in a spacey Chillwave-esq mix. This percussion heavy, atmospheric, version shows off what a brilliant song ‘Nova’ actually is.

The Sound Of Arrows – Nova (II Figures reMix)

There is also a Tiësto reMix, which sends shivers down my spine a bit. The track is 90’s trance sounding enough, did they really need to pay someone something like £15,000 (or more!) to make it sound even more like 90’s trance? You can hear a bit here. Has everything Tiësto has made since 1997 sounded exactly the same? His reMix of this track is probably the most dated and irrelevant thing I have heard in the last six months…and I listen to a lot of 80’s music!

‘Nova’ is out 25th April on Geffen, The Sound Of Arrows have just finished recording their début album.

She’s The Queen’s new EP

She’s The Queen, the NYC based ElectroPoppers we dropped the science on last month, are gearing up for the release of their New EP ‘Waiting Game’.

When we wrote about the duo last we included our buddy Ren Riz’s reMix of the title track, and in light of the EP release we though you ought to be wrapping your ears round the power Pop of the original version. The more you listen to this track the more you realise how incredibly sophisticated it is. We briefly touched on the production in out last piece but it’s worth mentioning again just how impressive both the arrangement and production is for an unsigned band. The track itself is an excellent choice for the lead track on a EP, it’s a powerful tune that hits you, both musically and vocally, like a wave of good emotion and would work just as well and the dancefloor as in the headphones.

Enjoy:

She’s The Queen – Waiting Game (EP Version)

The ‘Waiting Game’ EP is out 12th April, keep checking She’s The Queen’s Facebook for details:

a&r’s ‘Aquarium’ EP

Brooklyn based ElectroPop duo a&r return today with the release of their second EP, titled ‘Aquarium’.

The EP features seven track for top quality ElectroPop that draws on the same kind of influences as Dreamwave and Nu-Disco artists but keeping them wrapped up in a perfect Indie tinged Pop package. Rocko Rochee and Alex Kramer bring this Indie cool and retro influences to their version of ElectroPop with sweeping synth lines and atmospheric guitar work intersecting the dance beats and sing-along vocals. There, quite literally, is something for everybody (or, at least, everybody who reads electronic rumors) in a&r’s music. We defiantly recommend pickup up this EP.
