Holy Ghost! do it again

NTC Indie-DiscoPop guys Holy Ghost! have announced the release date for their début album, titled ‘Holy Ghost!’. It’s due to drop 5th April on DFA.

To celebrate the announcement they are giving away the lead single, ‘Do It Again’. Quintessentially modern New York Disco, it’s got that garage analog Disco sound coupled with hardcore Pop sensibilities. The hook in this track alone is gonna’ make it blow up when released! Expect to hear a lot more of this tune.

Dirty Vegas’s new single (+ Cassette Club reMix!)

I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Dirty Vegas, sure they can be a bit hit and miss but they were doing the whole House meets ElectroPop thing back when most of the modern proponents of the style were waving glowsticks around.

Their new single ‘Electric Love’ is defiantly a Dirty Vegas hit. It’s dirty and gritty and has got a groove from hell. It show’s Dirty Vegas haven’t been sitting on their hands when it comes to sounding fresh. Incorporating hint of Disco and Electro into their sound has done wonders to rejuvenate their sound, they’re back and sounding better than ever! They’ve also picked the amazing Cassette Club to reMix the single. The London ElectroPop duo turn in a typically brilliant track that is probably the standout of the reMix package. With a little of their Nu-Disco sound ‘Electric Love’ is elevated into a killer, must have, tune.

RüFüS present their début EP

RüFüS are a three-piece outfit from Syndey who mix live percussion with deep Disco electronics with almost dreamlike results.

The trio have just released their début EP, titled ‘RüFüS’, and what you’ll find amongst the six tracks is an organic, evolving, take on Electro and DiscoPop. Vocally comparable to Fenech-Soler, the music is much deeper and analog sounding. In addition to the organic feel of the music there is a layer of sampled recordings the trio took from the forest and the beach used in ambient and percussive ways that just adds to the elemental feel of the songs. Don’t get me wrong, this is top quality ElectroPop, a must listen for any fan of synth music, but there is something much more, well…human, about the music than your average dance track. It’s as if the music was grown rather than written. Still going to tear up your local Indie-Electro dancefloor in 2011 though!

For three guys with synths, this is probably the least ‘machine music’ ever made!

RüFüS – Paris Collides

RüFüS – We Left

Also check out the guy’s mash-up of their takes on Gotye’s ‘Heart’s A Mess’ and Trentmoller’s ‘Miss You’.

RüFüS’s self-titled début EP is out now on their own label, Monekeleon, and later in the year we’ll see On The Fruit Records release ‘We Left’ with reMixes from SymbolOne, Go Go Bizkitt!, Broke One, Beaumont, Springflower, Monsieur Adi and Ride the Universe…phew!

DāM-FunK and Nite Jewel keep it funky

It’s been ages since Synth-Funk master DāM-FunK and Nite Jewel supposedly teamed up to record an album under the moniker Nite-Funk. Apparently the album will finally be surfacing later this year, but until then this track might provide a glimpse of what to expect.

DāM-FunK’s reMix of Nite Jewel’s ‘It Goes Through Your Head’ will appear on the forthcoming single out later this month and it’s exactly what I’d want the Nite-Funk album to sound like. I love DāM-FunK’s synth work so much, he just gets that 80’s Post-Funk ElectroPop perfectly which makes a nice counter for Ramona Gonzalez’s vocals.

More of Ali Love’s ‘Moscow Girl’ reMixes

Various reMixes, and the video, of Ali Love’s funky ElectroPop opus ‘Moscow Girl’ have been knocking around for a while now but, now finally, the single sees it’s proper release next week.

The reMix package will include these to versions from Lee Foss and Jacques Renault. I’m really diggin’ the Lee Foss mix, it’s got a really early 80’s vibe with wide vintage synths, Simmonds tom rolls and some hardcore vocoder work. It sounds like the emotional montage tune from an 80’s ‘Moscow Girl’ movie. Mr. Renault turns in a Garage-y House mix to round off the single.

‘Moscow Girl’ is released 17th January on Back Yard Recordings and is recommended.

Moullinex’s thank you

Portuguese Electro-Funk meister Moullinex had dropped a free tune on his SoundCloud as a thank you to everyone who bought his latest EP.

The ‘Chocolat EP’, released last week on Gomma Dance Tracks is four tracks of kickin’ Electro grooves. Now featured on the EP, however, is this thank you track, ‘Love it Is, Then’, a storming Disco tune with more than a hint of early 90s dance and more than a hint of S’Express. No idea why it didn’t make the EP, but here it is for you now!

Ladytron’s ‘Ace Of Hz’ gets full single release

‘Ace Of Hz’ seems almost old now, it broke ground a few months ago, but today sees the US release of the ElectroPop legends Ladytron’s single, the precursor to their new EP and Best Of album.

The single comes with a nice reMix package (including Tiësto of all people…) which features this nice Electro mix from  Punks Jump Up. It’s a totally different beast to the original, a straight-up dancefloor track, maybe sacrificing some of the songs soul in the process. There’s a lot to like in the reMix though, the steel drums add a nice point of interest and it’s got a sweet overall groove. Still, it’s an awesome tune and if you require a kickin’ beat with your Ladytron this is head and shoulders above Tiësto’s lackluster effort (the man appears to have taken one of my favourite bands of all time and made them sound like every song he has done since 1999).

Echoes reMix The Joy Formidable

One of electronic rumors hot tips for 2011, SynthPop act Echoes, have dropped this beautiful reMix of Welsh Rock band The Joy Formidable’s forthcoming single ‘Austere’.

And what a sweeping epic they have created! The vocals on the original lend themselves perfectly to Echoes piano driven PowerPop track. There’s something of a mid-90’s dance saga about it but with a modern sensibility, weaving Electro leads in and out of the gathering momentum of the tune. It’s all pretty grandiose stuff!

‘Austere’ is released 14th January.

PNAU’s new single!

Wow, this kinda’ slipped under my radar. PNAU are back! (which may be why Empire Of The Sun have been quiet of late)

The first track to surface from the ElectroPop duo’s second album is the forthcoming single ‘The Truth’, it sounds pretty exiting stuff. Jump Jump Dance Dance wade in with a funkin’ Disco reMix awash with slap bass and electro toms. Sam La More’s reMix couldn’t be any more different, it’s a big commercial House track with a nice mix of Tropical in there.

JYA 3”16.

JYA 3”16. (don’t ask me how that would be pronounced) is an up-and-coming electronic music producer from Paris via Lyon who is currently working on his début solo album after being involved with numerous French Electro projects.

Best described as Space-Synth with a raw, live, feel, the track we have here, ‘Slippy’, is a short-but-sweet cosmic jam. Vintage synths and grungy drunk sounds are the order of the day, like Jarre, with a drummer, in his garage. No only is there something outherworldly about JYA’s music, but something very French too. He looks like someone to keep an eye on to inject a little humanity into Space-Synth.

JYA 3”16. – Slippy
