LexiconDon’s ‘Student Body’ in video form!

LexiconDon’s ‘Student Body’ has only gone and got itself a promo video!

It’s an amazing track from, what is, one of the ElectroPop albums of the year ‘Pink + Blue’, I think the only thing missing from the LexiconDon package was a music video. Sorted.

Directed by Jason Beattie, the video makes interesting use of colour for a hyper-real 80’s look and is wonderfully tongue in cheek. I would expect nothing less than LexiconDon taking the piss so there’s no disappointment there!

Van Go Lion

Van Go Lion are pretty awesome, it’s actually quite hard for me to concentrate on writing something about them ‘cos I’m just kinda’ sat here digging the music.

This duo from Portland make some epic sounding ElectroPop with the ‘Electro’ and the ‘Pop’ in just the right places. Catchy vocals with a sense of humour, powerful electronics with soaring lead lines and a backline aimed squarely at the dancefloor…what more could you ask for? I think one of the things that impress about Van Go Loin immediately is the huge production, which coupled with the power of Amy Paige lungs makes an in-your-face electronic Pop experience that you can’t help but like!

Van Go Lion are currently putting the finishing touches to their new release, their self titled EP is still available:

Selebrities

On a website about, let’s face it, a lot of 80’s influenced music to say a band sounds really 80’s seems a bit moot, but Brooklyn’s Selebrities sound really 80’s!

And I don’t mean in a Dreamwave, 80’s soundtrack, way, more in the back of a dingy SynthPop/Goth club way. From the sweeping analog synth sounds to the Peter Hook inspired bass to the boarderline Siouxsie Sioux vocals this is real Post-Punk synth synth. Saying that though, it also manages to be poppy as hell, setting it apart from the similarly influenced Coldwave/Minimal Synth sound.

The track ‘Audition’ from their début EP, ‘Ladies Man Effect’, is a perfect example of how they inject a touch of glamour and catchiness into, what is, quite a dark sound.

The ‘Ladies Man Effect’ EP is out now as a free download from Cascine.

Silverclub

Silverclub are a new UK Indie-Electro act who’s quirky British synth heavy sound will appeal to many readers of electronic rumors.

The band kinda’ take the Passion Pit strain of American Indie-Electro and inject it with a decidedly British humour and synth work more heavily steeped in the history of British SynthPop. A bit like a more raw, more indie, Hot Chip.

Check out the lead track on their second EP, ‘All In All’, those pulsating analog sounds act as the prefect counterpoint to down-to-earth vocals.

Human Life Vs. Lovers & Gamblers

Lovers & Gamblers’, Little Boots’ touring DJ/reMixing crew, latest output is this reMix of LA ElectroPop–band-to-watch Human Life’s new single ‘Wherever We Are’.

And what a reMix it is! It’s got the kick and bass of an Electro-House floorfiller and the synth melodies and vocoding of the sweetest ElectroPop track. There is something, I can’t quite put my finger on, a bit The Presets about the mix, maybe it’s just the groove? Whatever it is, it’s works so well!

‘Wherever We Are’ is released 1st November.

Kylie singing about Bristol!

In the continuing saga of the Kylie Minogue/HURTS love-in Kyle has returned the compliment of being asked to appear on HURTS’ album and HURTS’ covering her ‘Confide In Me’ by covering their, set in Bristol, début track ‘Wonderful Life’ for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Kylie Minogue – Wonderful Life (HURTS Cover)

It’s actually a really nice arrangement of the track. I think it’s time for Kylie and HURTS to get a room!

Alfa drops new tracks

Binary floorfiller Alfa has dropped three new audio bombs this week, so get ready for some serious synthesizer fallout.

First up is a original track, ‘Sky Patrol’. A pumping Nu-Disco jam with the dancefloor energy turned up to 11. Vocoded vocals are sent through a mangel and spat out the other side over frantic arpeggios…I defy you not to move to this!

Alfa – Sky Patrol

The man has also let loose a couple of new official reMixes he’s put together. His reMix for ODahl’s ‘Dance Mama’ show his more chilled Dreamwave (more Binary!) side and the FM slap bass on his mix of ‘Givin’ It Up’ by Vim Cortez is something you’ve got to hear for yourself!

♫ ODahl – Dance Mama (Alfa reMix)

♫ Vim Cortez – Givin’ It Up (Alfa reMix)

While other Binary artists have been getting some fantastic coverage lately it’s defiantly time for Alfa to step into the limelight!

Walter Sobcek – Je Me Souviens (+ NightWaves reMix)

Multi-national duo Walter Sobcek are releasing their début EP for Sismic Music this month and, frankly, it’s pretty awesome!

The title track ‘Je Me Souviens (Original ZHive reMix)’ is a strange combination of uplifting and melancholy, French and English, dancey and dreamy, with some almost baroque phrases that all adds up to a truly satisfying crescendo. It may have just missed the summer but this is pure strain summer haze ElectroPop.

Speaking of summer haze ElectroPop, LA’s kings of the scene NightWaves return the reMixing favour (Walter Sobcek reMixed their ‘Sweet Carrie’) with a smooth, chilled, driving reMix.

Yelle’s new single on Kitsuné

Parisian ElectroPop princess Yelle returns this October with a new single on Kitsuné Music.

Co-written, again, by GrandMarnier & tEPr and produced by Siriusmo, the track ‘La Musique’ is a nice slice of analog French Pop with a hypnotic bassline and leads which cut through the song. Lorenz Rhode’s reMix amps up the deep Disco into serious French-Touch territory with a killer ‘70’s Moog bassline.

Anoraak & Sally Shapiro

French retro synth master Frederic Riviere A.K.A. Anoraak has finally dropped his début album, ‘Wherever The Sun Sets’, and it’s awesome.

It’s everything you’d expect from the long time officer in the Valerie army. Dreamy ElectroPop meets 80’s teen movie soundtrack. Here we can sample for you an alternate mix of the track ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ featuring the vocals of repeat Anoraak collaborator and Italo/Pop heroine Sally Shapiro. Pure bliss!
