[MP3] Vanbot’s new single

Vanbot

Good news everyone! Sweden’s finest Vanbot is back with a brand new single. We’ve been dying to post When My Heart Breaks since it broke ground last week, but until now it’s been a Spotify exclusive. Leaving the argument about making it exclusive on such a platform being damaging to a release campaign aside, we’ve very pleased it’s now available to buy, and to play to you lot. It was worth the wait.

Following on from January’s Hold This Moment, When My Heart Breaks is a huge, infectious slick of Scandinavian ElectroPop brilliance. Powerful and majestic as Ester cries out against a back drop of massive synths and pounding drums. It’s been a while singe Vanbot’s début (and amazing) self-titled album, and you can hear in When My Heart Breaks that she’s been honing her craft making us more excited for her next long player than ever. Pretty flawless ElectroPop. Sweden nails it again.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Say Lou Lou

Say Lou Lou

We’ve been looking forward to this one. We twigged a few weeks ago that the amazing Monsieur Adi was reMixing the new single from Australian/Swedish sisters Say Lou Lou new single Julian. It’s a deep, emotional song, just the kind of thing that we imagined Adi could really get his teeth into, and he did, and here it is.

It’s actually quite old school Adi. A warm Dreamwavey Nu-Disco track, loaded with ElectroPop affectations. A big French Touch floorfiller, Adi plays with the mood of the track perfectly, giving it a dancey boost without loosing and if the tune’s inherent romanticism. Pulsing synthetic bass, effecting stabs and big airy pads mingle together and wisp around the vocals like smoke. Adi the producer of the moment, and in high demand, and this reMix shows just why. This is how you reMix for the dancefloor and stay classy.

[Video] Goin’ Old School: Heaven 17 and Depeche Mode

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

In light of ex-Prime Minister Margret Thatcher’s death, let’s have a couple of track that sum up Thatcher’s Britain. First, Heaven 17’s awesome Penthouse And Pavement from 1981

And Master And Servant by Depeche Mode from 1984.

[MP3] The Penelopes reMix David Bowie

davidbowie

As the world goes Nile Rodgers crazy and the man takes his long deserved rightful place as the lord and master of all music everywhere, London based French ElectroPoppers The Penelopes turn their attentions to one of Rodger’s most famous productions. Having completely defined the sound of the early 80s, Nile poured all that into David Bowie’s Let’s Dance album and it’s lead single.

The Penelopes do an amazing job of keeping the feel of the record, replacing Niles post-Disco licks with robotic boogie. Loaded up with warbling apreggios and stabbing, retro sounding, synths riding over the perfect funky rendition of the tracks bassline, deep and Moogy, this reMix is a brave endeavour (I mean, who reMixes Bowie well?) but actually pulls it off. The Penelopes rock up to stand shoulder to shoulder with both Bowie and Rodgers and hold their own. Excellent stuff.

[Mixtape] Kids At Midnight’s ‘Chick Date Mixtape’

kids at midnight

Kids At Midnight – Chick Date Mixtape = A lot of people could take note from Kids At midnights’ mixtapes. Jane actually themes and thinks about her tapes. Unlike most people’s monthly tapes, which on the whole seem to consist of stringing together the latest blog buzz tracks in the vague hope that people won’t forget about you, a Kids At Midnight tape tells a story. Her latest mix, Chick Date, is a collection of tracks from female artists who have influenced her and her vocal style. She writes at some length about the tape on the mix’s SoundCloud page, go read it. Also, it’s a lovely, morning, nostalgia trip. Enjoy.

[Audio] Say Lou Lou’s ‘Julian’

Say Lou Lou

Constantly changing your name has got to play havoc with your SEO. Just ask Say Lou Lou, we’d just got used to not calling them Saint Lou Lou and sticking with SLL when they become Say Lou Lou, although to be fair, their previous label, Kitsuné Music have done a fair job of scrubbing the old name from existence. When we say the Australian/Swedish girls live a month or so ago they seemed confused themselves as to what they were called. At that show they played a track which we though would be perfect single material. that song was Julian, their new single. Pop points for us!

Julian is even better on record, than it is live, when you can hear the nuances of the track. Which is a good thing as Julian is pretty subtle, it’s a gorgeous, warm, slice of DreamPop, bathed in layers in intricate synths and the girls comforting vocals. Even more exciting is that the single package will come equipped with reMixes from  Martin Dubka, Monsieur Adi. We can’t wait for those.
