What have Substatic been up to?

Well…holed up in some kind of Substatic bunker writing tunes, that’s what.

After extensive gigging their highly recommended début EP for the past year (and, I presume, taking a couple of months to get over making it into electronic rumorstop 5 tracks of 2011!) it was time for Bristol’s finest Electro trio to get their groove on and look to their next release. They have let two demos form their next release into the wild via their SoundCloud page. The first to see the light of day was ‘Bloodlust’, a laidback, slightly Dubsteppy, tune with an air of tension running throughout, but in instrumentation and Colleen’s borderline lamentation vocal delivery. Then there is ‘Gold’, a track that deserves to be played loud. ‘Gold’ is an in-your-face Electro beast, Substatic have assimilated both Dubstep and Electro-House’s synth work and sprinkled it with an ElectroPop sheen. ‘Gold’ will defiantly be one of this summers anthems.

Bearing in mind that these are both still works-in-progress, it seems Substatic’s next release will be something to get excited about.

Is Tropical ’s new single

We have another track for you here from the forthcoming Kitsuné Maison 11 ‘The Indie-Dance Issue’.

Is Tropical feature on the record with ‘The Greeks’. It Tropical have been a bit hit-and-miss for me previously, but this track is a really cool Indie-Electro romp from the London mystery trio. Their are currently gearing up for the release of their début album in June, produced by the band themselves alongside Jimmy Robertson and part-mixed by Lifelike, and if this track is anything to go by it could contain some pretty raucous anthems for 2011.

Is Tropical – The Greeks

Is Tropical’s début album ‘Native To’ is released on 13th June, the Maison 11 is out 16th May.

Polarsets & Channel Swimmer

Warning…play this track on a summery day and you may never awake from your come of smooth.

Polarsets are Kitsuné Music’s latest offering, their single ‘Sunshine Eyes’ appears on the forthcoming Maison 11 compilation alongside a single release in it’s own right with reMixes from Jensen Sportag, Kid Adrift and Skies. This reMix is an extra treat though (although why it’s not on the release is beyond me, it’s probably the best mix of the track around). It’s by Welsh DJ/Producer Mathew Mayes A.K.A. Channel Swimmer who bring in the downtempo loops and a killer rolling bassline with a silky covering of Disco strings.
This is the kind of track that really does make you feel like everything’s gonna’ be alright.

We dropped The Sleeps knowledge on you this time last week. This Indie-Electro trio from Cleveland have just released their first EP on the constantly quality Girlfriend Records label.

Well, the EP is out now, you can check the title track in our original post, it’s catchy, energetic and has got some massive synth work in amongst the gangly guitars, it’s everything you want on an Indie-Electro dancefloor . The EP is backed with reMixes from Gossip Culture and this mix from Norway’s HR, who turns the track into a chilled sunrise moment with a lot of feeling to it.

a&r’s ‘Aquarium’ EP

Brooklyn based ElectroPop duo a&r return today with the release of their second EP, titled ‘Aquarium’.

The EP features seven track for top quality ElectroPop that draws on the same kind of influences as Dreamwave and Nu-Disco artists but keeping them wrapped up in a perfect Indie tinged Pop package. Rocko Rochee and Alex Kramer bring this Indie cool and retro influences to their version of ElectroPop with sweeping synth lines and atmospheric guitar work intersecting the dance beats and sing-along vocals. There, quite literally, is something for everybody (or, at least, everybody who reads electronic rumors) in a&r’s music. We defiantly recommend pickup up this EP.

Tim & Jean’s ‘Come Around’ video

Australian ElectroPop newcomers Tim & Jean’s track ‘Come Around’ will be their UK début single. It’s a bit more Disco than their Aussie single ‘I Can Show You’ (which is no bad thing!) which sees them setting themselves apart from Empire Of THe Sun et al’

Here’s the video for the song, it’s full of greasers. Go figure!

‘Come Around’ is released 10th April on Publica

The Sleeps

The Sleeps are the latest edition to the Girlfriend Records stable. GFR are a mark of good taste in 80’s influenced electronic music and their newest members fill the Indie-Electro slot their line up.

This Cleveland based trio mix up retro sounding ElectroPop with 80’s rock riffs and catchy songwriting to create a sound that will defiantly have them standing out from the Indie-Electro crowd. Unlike many of their contemporaries, The Sleeps’ guitar work never overpowers the electronic, more the two blend together quite seamlessly with riffs and synth lines weaving in and out of one another giving the tracks a certain drive that has been missing in music since the heyday of big 80’s synth-rock movie themes. Their début for Girlfriend, ‘The Fuse’ is a perfect example of their work, a guitar and Electro mash up that occasionally veers into New York style Indie-Electro, occasionally veers into Dreamwave territory and occasionally sounds like early 90’s British Indie but makes a unique and infectious whole.

♫ The Sleeps – Fuse

The Sleeps’ ‘Fuse’ is out 1st April
