[Audio] Kavinsky’s ‘Sovereign’

kavinsky

On Friday French Electro/SynthWave master Kavinsky unexpectedly dropped a brand new track. It;s taken from his OutRun Live Tour, we’re not sure if that means we can expect on official release soon or not, but on Friday he gave the world a taste of what many (including us) have experienced live in the past couple of years. Friday afternoon/evening released don’t really work for us, I mean, it’s the start of the weekend, our eyes are on a different prize. So here we are, a couple of days late with the news. Deal with it.

Sovereign is rough, brooding, and quintessentially Kavinsky. A mid tempo burner full of sinister synths and ominous builds. Another page int he Dead Cruiser’s story, the unmistakable retro HorrorWave (yup, just invented a word….*quickly Googles*…maybe not) is loaded with hammerfall beats layered with the kind of synths that give you a panic attack. This is a dancefloor creepfest of the highest order.

[Audio] Dart Party’s ‘Going My Way’

dart party

Released late last week was the début single from Queens based producer Dart Party. Dart Party is the latest signing to Crazy Heart Records, the imprint owned by Ghost Beach, and for that reason we were debating featuring the track as we have zero respect for Ghost Beach after they used the very serious debate around artists being fairly compensated for their hard work in a cheap PR stunt to sell their latest record. They, and their American Eagle Outfitters paid-for billboard in Times Square set musicians arguments back a few years, essentially shitting on their ‘fellow’ musicians in an attempt to get e few more YouTube hits. It was an absolute joke that showed how little respect Ghost Beach has for music. However, Dart Party’s Going My Way is so good, you should ignore his label connotations and just sink into this luscious deep Disco and House goldmine.#

It’s Going My Way’s bassline that really grabs you here. A punchy retro synth bass that dominates the track and imbues it with a bouncy, yet gritty, vintage funk. It’s deep, but not Deep House deep, moreover it’s warm and enveloping, a sound to get lost in on the dancefloor. The spacious, distant vocal snatches lend the track a warehouse flavour. Going My Way, is a severely solid début that is well worth checking out. (Apologies for the Ghost Beach rant, they pissed off a lot of musicians though. Put it this way, if they annoy us that much and we still write about an artist on their label, then that artist must be pretty special!)

[Audio] Little Boots’ ‘Taste It’

little boots

Business Pleasure. That’s the title of the forthcoming new EP from the awesome Little Boots. We weren’t expecting brand new material so soon (given the length of time between albums one and two), the the early December release will be a nice pre-X-mas present. Victoria has just unveiled the EP’s lead track, Taste It. Which, after her experience with Disco, Pop and House, is surprisingly the most ecclectic song she has produced to date.

There a Grimes-like experimentalism to Taste It, alongside and Scandinavian MØ-ness, but this new avant-garde injection never overshadows Victoria’s ease with pure Pop music. In fact, she finds a certain harmony between the left-field and the Pop that seemed to have escaped others in the genre. Taste It is a hypnotic, bass pulsating, tribal rhythmed electronic dream led by Little Boots mantra vocals. It’s like nothing we’ve ever heard from Little Boots, and it’s exciting to hear her flex her creative muscles without the constraints of label pressure. Also, Com Truise had a hand in production, which is pretty awesome.

[Audio] Ku De Ta’s ‘Been A Long Time’

Ku De Ta

Here’s another monster tune from London’s Ku De Ta. This is the guys third release and each time they have severely impressed with their unique combination of UK Deep House power with an early 90s House flair. Like their première release, What’s Going On?, Ku De Ta’s new tune takes a 90s club classic and drags it kicking and screaming into 2014. This is Been A Long Time.

Riffing off of The Fog’s 1993 woozy floorfiller Been A Long Time, Ku De Ta take their time to build up a shuffling groove, easing big chords, House electric piano and vocal snatches into a rising symphony before launching into a bass heavy warehouse jam; loaded with soaring piano hooks and a slick breakdown. Drop this at peak time, they won’t be able to resist the beat.

[Download] Nude Disco & BroKen DJ’s reMix Laura Branigan’s ‘Self Control’

Laura Branigan

Here’s something a little tasty to start the week with, a slick reworking of one of our favourite tunes of all time. Whether you’re on Team Branigan or Team Raf there’s no denying that Self Control is an absolute classic. For us the debate generally rests on whether we’re in an ElectroPop mood or an Italo mood, but now we’ve got a contender for when we’re in the mood for some straight-up dancefloor vibes courtesy of this reMix from Nude Disco and BroKen DJ’s of the Laura Branigan version of Self Control.

Falling neatly between the realms of reMix and completely reworked Edit, Nude Disco and BroKen DJ’s take on Self Control distils the tune down to it’s most crowd pleasing elements. Playing up the Italo, but neatly slotting it into their crisp and bouncy South London Disco sound, these guys hype that classic bassline for all it’s worth and give it a little syncopated swing. Bristling with uplifting synths and Balearic purcussion, this reMix uses the original’s vocals and arrangements sparingly; but when it does drop some of the songs memorable moments, it does so to maximum effect.

[Download] Ben Macklin’s ‘Physical’

ben-macklin_thumb

Cassette Club’s Ben Macklin just isn’t letting up this year! Becoming one of the scene’s mote prolific producers, Ben continues his journey into Tropical Disco with this new tune, Physical. Depending on whether you’re a glass half full, or glass half empty, type of person this will either carry you away from these cold winter months to a warmer vibe, or remind you just how must it isn’t summer anymore. Either way, get involved.

Macklin drives things home with a solid House backing, a pumping, tight groove that makes a rock solid base for layers of hazy, almost Chillwavey, synths and samples to dance around the track. Keeping the vibes in check is a hypnotic Island lead line that shines down on the track, bringing the sunshine. This is top-down crusin’ music, although maybe you should wait a few months to act on that. Unless you;re in Australia, in which case go for it.

[Audio] Rogue Vogue reMixes Slaptop’s ‘Sunrise’

Slaptop

The Chicago producer who lives and breathes Chicago House Rogue Vogue has turned in another of his storming reMixes. This time he’s featured on the new single from San Francisco outfit Slaptop, who’s Sunrise is released later this month as a Beatport exclusive. Rogue Vogue channels a little Old School Trax on this one, putting his heritage at the fore.

Claps and 909 kicks greet you as you hit play before a barrage of vintage synth stabs. The bass is thick and crisp and shakes the speakers as tight keys dance around the track. Rogue Vogue inject the tune with a little Funk courtesy of a deft organ groove to create contrast with the retro-future sound pallet. Grabbing vocal snatches and depositing them liberally, Rogue Vogue keeps the energy high and spins every element into a enigmatic floorfiller for the warehouse crowd.

[Audio] Black Magic Disco reMixes Glass Slipper’s ‘Caught Up’

Glass Slipper

Black Magic Disco is back in effect with this new slice of House goodness. It’s a reMix of one of the new tunes from US project Glass Slipper; put together by Lisa Cork-Twiss, formerly of Real McCoy, and San Francisco DJ BradElectro. Their new release, the Universal Love Vibe EP, features the track, Caught Up, and BMD’s monster rework of it.

Black Magic Disco comes on string with the early 90s Chicago vibes on this one. The vocal here mixes up big diva moments with a particularly 90s soulful sound, and BMD works them to their dancefloor friendly fullest. Pairing them up with a deep filtered organ and punchy bassline, he hits the House nail on the head and serves up a modern club track that plays to nostalgic bliss in the best way possible. It’s got a nice Poppy sheen too, this could easily be a classic tune; and maybe it’s desisted to be.
