[Audio] Marina And The Diamonds’ ‘FROOT’ reMixed by St. Lucia

Marina And The Diamonds

FROOT was the first single released from Marina And The Diamonds’ forthcoming third studio album, and an amazing return to form for one of our favourite singer/songwriters. It was released October last year but is getting a new lease of life in the form of this storming new reMix from Brooklyn’s breezy ElectroPop exponent; St. Lucia.

St. Lucia’s reMix was worth the wait, the man morphs the massive Pop epic into a quirky but imposing floor-filler. Building upon the foundations of a House beat and machine bass, St. Lucia avoids falling into the obvious trap of producing a big commercial dance track but putting Marina’s eclectic vocal from and centre amongst swirling synths. Not hint of a trance lead anywhere, instead we find catchy SynthPop hooks. Good job St. Lucia!

[Audio] Benny & Gain’s ‘Approval’

Benny & Gain

The latest release on Pole Jam Vinyl, the awesome physical label from the fine folks at Pole Position Recordings and Glam Jam Artists, comes in the form of another groove packed compilation. This one features the talents of Cassara, Darko Kustura, and Benny & Gain, collectively titled the Lady Leopard EP. This one is our favourite on the record, coming from London production duo Benny & Gain, this is Approval.

The most laid back tune of the release, Approval is an enchanting five minute synthesizer odyssey. Sunrise Disco vibes with a carefree, hypnotic groove you can get lost in, Approval gently invites you to walk with it’s chilled Disco beats, lazy House keys and starshine lead lines. One for late nights or early mornings; Benny & Gain have delivered a slice of dance music bliss.

[Download] Motor Mouth’s ‘Balearic Winter’

Motor Mouth

Motor Mouth, the Disco duo made up of German DJs Linntronix and DJ Friction, released a new EP this week on the excellent Silhouette Music. These guy have been working together since 2006 and the Zodiac EP marks their first release for Silhouette. It holds six tracks of Nu-Disco and Electro Funk goodness; here’s our pick of the release. The vocal version of Balearic Winter, featuring Phil on vocals.

Balearic Winter is, in contrast to it’s name, a super summery jam. Although it does have a certain chill to it so maybe that’s a thing. Phil drops some urgent vocals over a slick soundtrack of bobbing bass and squelchy synths on a track that draws the line between Indie-ElectroPop and poolside Nu-Disco. This is Disco with an air of mystery; dig in.

[Audio] Cyclist reMixes Pat Lok’s ‘All In My Head’

cyclist

Torontonian Disco multi-instrumentalist Mark Penner A.K.A. Cyclist unleashes not one, but two new tunes this week. Both are exclusives to the new compilation from Toolroom Records, this year’s Poolside Miami. The compilation was released this week and sees Cyclist’s tunes sit alongside the likes of Eli & Fur, NTEIBINT, LoFrames and 5 Reasons. For one of his contributions Cyclist has taken on the task of reMixing fellow Canadian House genius Pat Lok’s excellent All In My Head.

Cyclist takes Lok’s Desirée Dawson featuring original, a full-on Disco House monster, and give it a Funky House makeover with a raw analog feel. The original vocal ride over a seemingly laid back backing, but one that bristles with nervous dancefloor energy. Spikey synths and punchy bass lay themselves thick over a slick Disco beat all building towards the welcomes Acidic growl of the finale’s hypnotic riff. Surprisingly soulful for what is, at first glance, quite an abrasive Disco tune.

♫ Pat Lok (Feat. Desirée Dawson) – All In My Head (Cyclist reMix)

While you’re here check out Cyclist’s new original tune too. Featuring Jocelyn Alice on vocals, Heartbeat Speed is a slinky five minutes of warm House with a breezy summertime vibe. Amusingly Mark and Jocelyn met when she answered his Craigslist ad for a new roommate. Random!

[Audio] Maya Jane Coles reMixes Sam Smith’s ‘Lay Me Down’

Sam-Smith

This week saw the release of the reMix package of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down. Smith has experienced a meteoric rise to stardom in the past year, going from ‘that guy on House records’ to Brit and Grammy Award destroying superstar who can entice the very best in production talent. Like this reMix from the awesome Maya Jane Coles. Check it out.

Lay Me Down is a great showcase for Maya’s particular brand of enigmatic vocal House. With her trademark low slung basslines and cavernous synths Smith’s song takes on a whole new persona. A haunting and intoxicating new track with a compelling groove, this one takes it’s time to travel it;s mesmerising journey, drawing you deeper and deeper in as it does.

Dots Per Inch

Up-and-coming British producer Dots Per Inch has been on our radar for a while now. Flexing between free downloads and releases on labels like Tiefblau he’s already build up a fair back catalogue. His latest tune falls into the gratis category later this month, but you can wrap your ears around it right now. This is Sayin’ Something.

Once again Dots Per Inch delivers a classic House track. Grabbing tiny snatches of Lucy Pearl’s Don’t Mess With My Man he reconstructs them into a completely new tune. Pairing warm Chicago bass with a big piano hook and a Garage beat, this track hits you with a high energy club monsters and four minutes of dancefloor gold.

[Audio] Goldroom reMixes Ekkah’s ‘Last Chance To Dance’

Ekkah

Dreamwave originator and purveyor of all things nautical Disco Goldroom has treated us to a brand new reMix. He’s been a bit quiet recently, since ‘Till Sunrise, due to all the constant gigging and whatnot so it’s nice to hear some fresh music. The object of his talents this time is Brummie Rebekah/Rebecca themed duo Ekkah’s single of last year, Last Chance To Dance. Soak it up.

Goldroom immediately drops you in the middle of some island bliss with rolling percussion and delicate arpeggios before launching into dreamy beach House vibes. Ekkah’s vocals have a certain soulful quality and skippy Pop groove that lends themselves perfectly to Goldroom’s piano lead feel-good soundtrack. Can’t stop vibing to this.

[Audio] Lo-Fi-Fnk’s ‘U Don’t Feel The Same’

Lo-Fi-Fnk

Swedish SynthPoppers Lo-Fi-Fnk have dropped another surprise new single. We weren’t even sure they were still active, but they recently announced their forthcoming new album, titled, Can You Feel It?, and here is the second single following November’s title track release. This one’s called U Don’t Feel The Same, high octane stuff.

The duo turned trio serve us a monstrously sizes slice of ScandiPop on this one. U Don’t Feel The Same is a sprawling ElectroPop that in it’s three and a half minutes length offers up breakbeats, Chillwave synths, cheeky little riffs, and introspective vocals all on one track. It’s a bit of a Frankenstein of electronic styles, but the pull it off with seemingly effortless ease. Loaded with Lo-Fi-Fnk’s unique brand of Swedish quirkiness, U Don’t Feel The Same is Indie-Electro excellence.
