[Audio] Atrey’s ‘Guilty Pleasure’

Atrey

Mixing up a bit of Disco, a bit of SynthWave and a bit of French Electro comes central European producer Atrey. A man who’s visual imagery and attitude seem deeply embroiled int he SynthWave scene but who music has more in common with the kind of huge Electro tunes from a few years back, albeit with a smooth Disco twist.

His latest single, Guilty Pleasure is a prime example. Begining with moody 80s soundtrack chords, the track soon descends into mind-blowing, heave digital slap-bassed, French Electro that could easily stand shoulder to shoulder with the best Ed Banger output. A masterclass in frantic synth Disco, there is so much going on in this track it’s astounding; and delivered with crystal clean production. Infectious as hell, feel no guilt about loving Guilty Pleasure.

[Audio] Grum reMixes Shift K3y’s ‘Touch’

Shift K3y

Due out in April is the single Touch from London House producer Shift K3y. It’s Garage-y R&B influenced tune that comes with a storming reMix package, featuring the likes of Oxford and this euphoric monster from the one and only Grum. We’re still waiting for a definite release date for Grum’s album so we can publish the glowing review of it we wrote last year before the record was pushed back after the well deserved success of his The Theme single, but in the meantime this will more than keep you going.

Grum takes the track from it’s Urban roots and drags it straight to the dancefloor. A rising symphony of thick synths and uplifting melodies riding over s stomping beat. This is peak time madness that harkens back to the days of packed superclubs rising and falling to the sounds of Euphoric Trance, but with that Grum, emotional Dreamwave twist. Retro in it’s progressions, modern in it’s sounds, this one is hands-in-the-air all the way through. Check out Annie Mac giving it a spin.

[Download] Shindu covers Pixies’ ‘Gouge Away’

shindu

Belgian ElectroPoppers Shindu has put together this blistering cover version of Indie legends Pixies Gouge Away. Those amongst you who are sceptical about how Pixies frantic, wall-of-sound guitar music translates into SynthPop really need to hear this. This is how you make a track your own.

It’s the bass that really makes this tune what it is, synth heavy but keeping it raw, Shindu centre the track on a driving bassline that flows to the progression of the original. Even singer Chibi’s voice takes on an edgy quality here, doing justice to the song itself. We can imagine this song is killer live, the rising electronic tones and gritty riffs easily doing the job of droning guitars whilst injecting the track with a little Funk too.

[Audio] Todd Terje’s ‘Delorean Dynamite’

Todd Terje

Here is the first track Norwegian Cosmic Disco king Todd Terje is teasing us with from his recently announced forthcoming début album. It’s Album Time (great title!) drops in April and includes a collaboration with Bryan Ferry (who Todd amazingly reMixed). This tune, Delorean Dynamite (the man has a knack for names!) is a great taste of what’s to come.

Injecting a little retro Italo into his spaced out SacndiDisco style, Delorean Dynamite rocks a powerful 80s-esque arpeggio. The galactic synths glide over the track, which has the sense of spaciousness that Terje does best. As the track progresses we’re treated to wicked little Disco licks and soaring leads that rise toward the tracks emotional finale. Pure dancefloor excitement.

[Audio] Erasure’s ‘Make It Wonderful’ reMixed by Chad Valley

erasure

Last month we brought you the first of a stunning collection of reMixes of the new single from SynthPop legends Erasure Make It Wonderful. Bright Light Bright Light turned in his 90s House take on the tune, now it’s time to unveil Chillwave master Chad Valley’s enveloping re-working of Make it Wonderful. The single finally sees release at the end of the month.

As a warm blanket of synths, Chad Valley’s reMix delivers a warbling array of sparking sounds. Uplifting arpeggios and reverb washed drums curl around Andy Bell’s voice like smoke as it dips in and out to make space for spacious chiming leads. With enough of an 80s feel to seem fitting for an Erasure reMix, but not so much it dominates the sound of the track, Chad Valley had served up the perfect compliment to the more frantic versions of the track.

[Audio] Klaxons’ ‘There Is No Other Time’

Klaxons

Last week saw the re-emergence of Nu-Rave icons Klaxons. After indulging their Rockier side in the past few years their new comeback single, There is No Other Time, produced by future House Superstars Gorgon City, see them delve back into the waters of electronic music and showing just as much love for 90s Dance classics as they did when the first erupted on the scene.

The first tracks to be taken from their forthcoming summer album, There Is No Other Time rides a pulsating bassline that drive the track ever forward. With hints here and there, in the piano line and the vocal mantra, of Dance music classics of the past There Is No Other Time serves up a selection of live synths and Indie euphoria. A surprisingly good hint of what’s to come on their James Murphy, Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands, and Erol Alkan producer new record.
