[Audio] datA’s ‘Don’t Sing’

data

Out next week via Ekler’o’shock is the new one from the mighty datA. The Frenchman’s tunes are few and far between, but when he does drop a tune he drops it hard; his tracks  are always so big. This latest single features Benny Sings on vocals and is possibly the Poppiest thing he’s ever done. Don;t come here looking for the chainsaw synths of old, but as far as massive Pop tunes go, it;s pretty subversive.

Drawing in influences from afar afield as rough Electro and Gospel. datA and Benny Sings have put together a massive, cinematic tune full of bombast and drama. The main focuses here are Sing’s powerful croon and a hammered melodic piano; these centrepieces driving the tone and the rousing energy of the song. This rides on a solid dance beat, although the floor-friendly qualities of the track take a backseat the the emotional power of Don’t Sing. A strange but utterly compelling combination.

We introduced you to the new tune from French master datA, Soldier’s Flag, last week with a download of the storming Electro Club Mix. The original, more Pop palatable mix has now got a music video.

The clip was directed by Julien Paolini, a poignant veteran’s tale.

datA

This week one of our favourite French producers of all time, the always excellent datA, releases his new single, Soldier’s Flag. It’s his first record in what seems like an age. So long in fact, that we didn’t even know if this guy was still going; but we are very pleased to report that not only is he still going, but his new record, whilst a slight change from his pervious work, is pretty infectious. The Soldier’s Flag single also comes equipped with reMixes from Bottin and Reflex.

Soldier’s Flag is a seeming strange combination of a smooth, soulful tune and a gritty Electro-House beast. But datA make it work, intertwining a hypnotic, dirty synth riff with a vintage sounding vocal hook. Riding the wave of Gesaffelstein-esque post-EBM Techno without ever falling into the genre trap. datA bring a little sweet musicality; an emotional quality to this grinding Electro resulting in something tough, but expressive and involving to dance to.An interesting direction for datA.

New track from datA

datA

The Parisian master of Poppy French Electro with a Baroque flavour datA is finally back. Having release some of our favourite records of all time David Guillon has been quite for a while, but the wait is over and ne are now treated to the first glimpse of things to come. And it’s fun and funky as hell.

Taken from the forthcoming Ekler’O’ShocK compilation ‘EOS.MMX – The Summer Solstice Edition’, which features an awesome tracklist, this new datA track features the crooning vocals of fellow Frenchman Sacha Di Manolo. It plays on datA’s past work with Baroque melodies over driving French Disco sounds whilst working that into a ‘70’s Pop arrangement. Keeping the Disco groove at it’s core, datA applies his shiny synths to a mellow Prog Rock song, whilst not diving into the Prog Rock deep end like fellow French Electro legends Justice datA certainly brings that vibe to his track. ‘Mélodie’ might not necessarily slay many peak time dancefloors, but it will certainly put a smile on the face of all who hear it.

7th December sees the release of the second single from datA’s fantastic album ‘Skywriter’.

Following on from the massive ‘One In a Million’, ‘Electric Fever’ isn’t quite as poppy but it’s a Nu-Disco stormer that is guaranteed to fill floors. Parisian duo Acid Washed, amongst others, take on reMix duties here and smother the track in synth bass and cowbell goodness! Check the acid breakdown:

The week in Bangers: 22:03:09

The week in Bangers: While electronic rumors isn’t strictly an Electro-House blog, we do cover a lot of Electro-House that crosses over in to our realm. So many good club tunes and reMixes surface each week we can’t (and wouldn’t) cover them all, so this is a round up of some of the best from the week that we didn’t have time to dedicate individual posts to…

TWIB1

datA & Sébastien Grainger’s hit from last year, ‘Rapture’, got a noisy Electro working out from Kids At The Bar this week and Le Castle Vania took on indie hot-tickets The Virgins giving them a Disco overhaul. Fresh from reMixing Tigersapian, Kolt13 work their tricks on Girl And A Gun and we have new material from Daroc and Bloc Party with some tracks from their forthcoming reMix album by Villains and Filthy Dukes. The Fire And Reason closes this week’s The Week In Bangers in sleazy electro style with a reMix by The R.O.A.R.
