Today, as a Valentine’s Day present Bright Light Bright Light has premiered the video for this new track ‘How To Make A Heart’.
Taken from his forthcoming album ‘Make Me Believe In Hope’ (which, I think, is the first time we’ve heard the title’), ‘How to Make A heart’ is an uplifting electronic Pop gem with a cute, if a little sad, video directed by Gavin Leisfield.
Download the video for free at howtomakeaheart.brightlightx2.com.
That right there is Sherilyn Fenn.
I’ll give you a moment…
OK then…why have I headed this post with a picture of Sherilyn Fenn? Well, I used to be pretty crazy about her back in the days when Twin Peaks was on the TV, ah those were the days…
So, kindly, Bright Light Bright Light have given me an excuse to whack Sherilyn on my blog as he’s only gone and covered the vocal version of the Twin Peaks theme tune. ‘Falling’ was originally released as a single by vocalist Julee Cruise and penned by the shows composer Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch and is surely one of those tunes that is embedded in the popular psyche.
Bright Light Bright Light’s cover is just as haunting as the original but ushers it into quite a contemporary SynthPop ballad that really shows off Rod’s vocal prowess.

Rod REALLY loves the 90’s!

Just a quick post this morning to start your Saturday with a bang.
Dancefloor demon Louis La Roche has got his mits on the utterly awesome début single from Cardiff’s Bright Light Bright Light, ‘Love Part II’, and drops a 2-step-ish groove awash with Disco riffs. This is sure to be packing the ‘Total Club Hits 2010’ type compilations soon!

As I said earlier this week, I’ve been meaning to write about Error: Operator for a while now.
This London based mystery producer’s début album was released this week so now seems as good as time as any to introduce you lot to some of the most beautifully crafted electronica you will hear this year.
The album, titled ‘Mistakes’, defiantly feels like some kind of loose narrative, despite being mostly instrumental (utilising lots of vocal samples/news snippets/etc…). The distinctive soundtrack element in the music is probably what makes it really stand out, the dubby beats and intertwining synth work only act as a backing for the real work of piano, of violin and of snatches of someone else’s memories that Error: Operator has served back to us in a way that drills into your imagination.
If you want something chilled and thoughtful to see you into Autumn then look no further.
♫ Error: Operator – Mistakes Mk. 1
The album also contain three tracks featuring the guest vocals of Grizzle Emcee, Jane Elizabeth Hanley and electronic rumors fave Bright Light Bright Light. While something that can seem ill at ease with he rest of the album as a whole, taken individually they are some interesting collaborations. The Bright Light Bright Light track ‘July’ is slated to be the next single. Until then check out Error:Operators reMix of BLBL’s awesome current single ‘Love Part II’, which strips the song down into an, almost abstract, cosmic synth experiment.

This track is seriously going to blow up!
‘Love Part II’, Bright Light Bright Light’s début single is released 12th September, until then your MySpace love is required:
Now signed to PopJustice’s PopJustice Hi-Fi label, the amazing Bright Light Bright Light can have proper videos and everything!
And, flipping hell, is his new single, ‘Love Part II’ good or what? It’s proper electronic Power Pop. I’ll say that again, it’s PROPER ELECTRONIC POWER POP! Right? I always said he was a good songwriter, bit this track exceeds every expectation. Remember how powerful Pop was in the 80’s?, how you would get chills when the chorus kicked in? That’s what we’re talking about here.
The video is cool too, nicely shot and full of angular abstractness, as all good videos should.
Did I mention we quite like this here?

I stated on both Twitter and Facebook that I couldn’t be bothered to blog today ‘cos I had too much to do, my band is playing at a festival 5 hours away so I have to pack and stuff, and have too much to do in the real world.
Then an email lands in the electronic rumors Inbox. I almost didn’t read it, but I did. The music sounded interesting so I clicked the MySpace link only to find there was no music there. At this point I almost gave up, I have a bunch of synths and keyboard stands to dismantle and pack, but somehow I found my way to the band’s SoundCloud.
And, man, am I glad I did.
Victoria & Jacob are a Lo-Fi Indie-Electro/ElectroPop act from London who’s intimate toytown synth sound is slightly akin to BedroomPop but made grander by Victoria’s vocals soaring optimistically over the somewhat melancholy music. the immediate comparison in my head is to Venus Hum, but with more Englishness and less god.
The band are gearing up for the release of their second single (after a couple of self-released EPs), ‘Nighttime’, which promises to be more up tempo, we’ll bring you more on that when we can, until then do your self a favour and check out the duo’s last single ‘With No Certainty’, which is possibly the most beautiful piece of music I have heard all year.
♫ Victoria & Jacob – With No Certainty
One of the reMixes for the single is by electronic rumors favourite Bright Light Bright Light (who’s just been snapped up by PopJustice’s new label, nice one!) who produces an epic slice of Pop.

Bright Light Bright Light (which I really hope is a Gremlins reference!) is the one-man project of Cardiff based Singer/Songwriter Rod Thomas who absolute passion to create well-crafted Pop music shines through the music from the first listen.
You can tell that Rod has spent a few years honing his craft as, for a DIY production, it’s pretty damn slick. It’s also timed brilliantly, this kind of ElectroPop with an emphasis on songwriting, an ElectroPop revolution of substance over style, is set to blow up this year and Bright Light Bright Light could well be at the head of the pack.
His latest track ‘A New Word To Say’ is a perfect example of this, it’s intelligent yet catchy, danceable yet thoughtful. Essentially it’s been written rather than produced, if you see what I mean? Which is always refreshing in electronic music.
Rod has roped in his friend James Yuill and fellow Cardiff ElectroPoppers Friends Electric (who’s reMix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Under The Sheets’ we featured way back when) for reMix duties. James delivers a bright retro synth mix that actually sounds like it was fun to make while Friends Electric take it straight to the dancefloor in a French House stylee.
