Hyboid

Kicking off today we have some hypnotic cosmic Disco from German producer Hyboid.

The track ‘Vogon Poetry’ comes from the EP ‘Chicken Accelerator’, an Astro Chicken label sampler and is six minutes of pure Sci-Fi synthesizer rock-out. Like a soundtrack to an 80’s space opera that was never released this track is all about blue-screened spaceships and silver jumpsuits powered by urgent arpeggios and otherworldly analog lead lines.

As you can probably tell from the title, Hyboid is a HitchHikers’ fan and has spliced up this video for ‘Vogon Poetry’ from the amazing BBC serial. It works really, really, well!

Hyboid is planning to release his début album ‘Aliens Ate My Synthesizer’ on vinyl in December.,

Kap Bambino & Dragonfly Love

ElectroPunks Kap Bambino are the subject of Director Thomas Hilland’s short film created after being asked to make a clip using Nokia’s new N8 smartphone.

The result mixes Kap Bambino’s music with flying robot dragonflies, spandex fishermen and Norway’s coastline.

Enjoy ‘Dragonfly Love’:

Friends Electric’s ‘Golden Blood’ video

Welsh Indie-ElectroPoppers Friends Electric new single ‘Golden Blood’ will be released at the end of November.

The video, as with the previous single ‘Wall Of Arms’, was directed by Laura Fry and is a really nice accompaniment to this epic sounding single by one of the UK most underrated bands.

The single is out 29th November. I’m looking forward to catching the guys live alongside Fenech-Soler and Substatic next week in Bristol!

Saharan Gazelle Boy

I must admit, I’d never heard of  Saharan Gazelle Boy before, apparently it’s a collaboration between Capybara’s Darin Seal and Sea Change. I’ve never heard of them either. Oh well.

I’m digging the music though, it’s nice and grungy and has an electronic post-punk vibe to it. An early 80’s Indie theme runs throughout but with enough electronics to keep it just the right side of SynthPop.

Check the video for their new single ‘Strange Teen Heart’.

And their previous record, ‘Halfhair Girl’, which is a little early New Order.

HURTS’ ‘Stay’ video

Today HURTS premiered their brand new video for the upcoming third single from their début album, ‘Happiness’

The ‘Stay’ (an excellent choice for a single BTW!) video is a beautifully shot Bergman-esq clip that features some stunning landscapes.

I sincerely hope those barefooted dancers has some kind of mat to dance on ‘cos that looks like some nasty sharp volcanic rock!

‘Stay’ is released 15th November, the album ‘Happiness’ is out now.

Crystal Castles’ ‘Baptism’ video

Here is the official video for Crystal Castles’ 2nd single from their 2nd self titled album.

While looking pretty low budget it, strangely, it feels like a ‘proper pop video’. maybe it reminds me of clips from the 80’s, maybe it’s ‘cos it focuses mostly on Alice singing, I don’t know.

Check it:

The video was directed by Rob Hawkins.

La Roux’s US Version of ‘In For The Kill’

Do you remember when ‘Quicksand’ first came out on Kitsuné and La Roux was doing stints at The Notting Hill Arts Club? Exciting times. I loved that summer, musically. It was all about girls beginning with ‘L’ and a SynthPop comeback that wasn’t about parodying the past but making something new. That was nearly 2 years ago!!!

Anyway, the Us are finally getting a release of their own of ‘In For The Kill’ along with a brand new video, it’s pretty slick but I don’t know what was wrong with the old video. I liked it’s neon retro-future car chase!

‘In For The Kill’ had been out for years, but the new release will probably have that Danger reMix on it, reason enough to but it again!
