The electronic rumors awards: electronic rumors’ top 20 albums of 2010!!!

See, we told you we were going to tart up our end of year lists! Welcome to the electronic rumors awards!

I really have a love/hate relationship with these lists. On the one hand I love looking back at the very best music that was released in the past 12 months but I hate sifting them down to just 20. So I make a list, give it a couple of days to settle, see if there’s anything I missed or if I want to change my mind, to make sure I have ranked things ‘cos I loved them, not ‘cos it would be cool to say so, a couple of days to be happy with my listing. But I know the moment I post this I will remember some awesome music from January that I have forgot.

So I’ve just got to close my eyes, bite the bullet and commit. Here goes..

Starting with electronic rumors top 20 albums of the year, including our ‘best album’ award. Pretty happy with this list even though there is a lot left out. There are a couple of bodges in there (Futurecop!’s album is only available on import right now, it’s released domestically in 2011, but it’s SO awesome and I desperately wanted Parallels’, Minitel Rose’s and Anoraak’s albums to be included) but on the whole it is a fitting list of the records that rocked out worlds this year.

Way Out West Vs. FM Attack

Canadian king of all things 80’s-esq House FM Attack recently reMixed the title track from Bristol’s electronica legends Way Out West’s latest album.

With no definite release in sight it’s possible the track is getting a single release (the album has already has a reMix package), and it deserves it, especially this mix. FM Attack brings his brand of pre-Dreamwave Nu-Disco with it’s lush synths and sparkling lead lines which effortlessly flow aver a hyped-up groove.

Human Life reMix Polygon Palace

A while back Melbourne based international Electro duo Polygon Palace stepped up for reMixing duties on Human Life’s single ‘In It Together’, now the Californian ElectroPop heroes are returning the favour.

Polygon Palace’s new single, ‘We Have a visual’ is “a hard-hitting tune on the topic of vampire-hunting robots and cross-dimensional hedonism (with synths)” which, frankly, is as awesome as it sounds. It’s an Electro Sci-Fi epic, and Human Life take it to the next level. Bringing their massive 80’s synth sounds to the table Human Life take the track to it’s funkiest conclusion, This is pure dancefloor ElectroPop genius. Y’all defiantly need to be keeping an eye on Human Life in 2011!

Oh, and check the big deep breakdown!

Polygon Palace – We Have A Visual (Human Life reMix)

Human Life are also contributing a reMix to the forthcoming single ‘Boadicea’ by Mason featuring Róisín Murphy! Can’t wait!

‘We Have Visual’ is released 30th December on Forum5

Jungle Fiction’s début EP

Icelandic Nu-Disco trio Jungle Fiction make the kind of rad summery sounds you wouldn’t normally associate with their colder climate.

With reMixes for the likes of Kele, Acid Washed & Neon Indian under their belt, it’s about time for this young trio to drop their début EP. Which they are, and giving it away for free! The guys ‘Heat Of The Nite’ EP is three tracks of urban, Sci-Fi, retro Electro. Appearing at a point where the noise powerhouse Electro of Kavinsky and Danger meet the smooth, sweeping, 80’s leads of the Valerie Collective, Jungle Fiction have produced an EP of driving Electro Disco tunes that guarantees we’re gonna’ hear more from them.

Jungle Fiction – Transhuman

Jungle Fiction – Heat Of The Nite

Finishing up the EP is a collection of reMixes from Fukkk Offf, Ishivu and F.o.o.L., it’s an amazing début should defiantly be picked up, especially as Jungle Fiction have seen fit to give it away!

You can download the whole EP from their SoundCloud page here.

G.L.O.V.E.S. reMix Bag Raiders’ new single

It’s got cool ElectroPop, Dancefloor sensibilities, and a monkey in the video. I get the feeling Bag Raiders’ forthcoming new single ‘Sunlight’ is gonna’ do well.

The reMix package has got one or two gems contained within too. Check this mix by fellow Australians G.L.O.V.E.S.. You know the G.L.O.V.E.S. name is a mark of quality and what you get here is no exception. Smooth Nu-Disco sounds to while away the night with a shuffling beat. this is the stuff to make you forget about the cold and dance in the snow!

Bag Raiders – Sunlight (G.L.O.V.E.S. reMix)

‘Sunlight’ is taken from Bag Raider’s album, out right now on Modular and the single will be released early 2011!

Kap10Kurt reworks Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Suburbia’

Fresh from mixing duties on Erasure’s re-release of ‘A Little Respect’, ElectroPop/Nu-Disco innovator Kap10Kurt has turned his attention to a whole crop of classic 80’s tracks making them prime fodder for an DJs set.

The man has kindly let us share with you his awesome take on Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Suburbia’ (my personal favourtie PSB track!). Like all good reworks of songs this legendary it keeps the song srtucture pretty much intackt, after all it’s something ingrained in the popular psyche, but brings it crashing into the 21st century with a kicking new beat and bassline and washed with some lush retro synths. Add in a few edits and cuts here and there and what you’re left with is a storming dancefloor track that’s also a classic anthem. That’s a win/win all round!

Pet Shop Boys – Suburbia (Kap10Kurt Rework)

You can find the rest of his 80’s reworks on his SoundCloud page.

Kap10Kurt also has a, slightly terrifying, message for electronic rumors readers:

The Kap10’ is currently gearing up for the release of his new single, ‘Speed Demon’, which drops in January 2011 on Kris Menace’s label Work It Baby and features reMix skills from none other than Justin Faust. If that has you salivating, check out Kap10Kurt’s previous singles:

Bag Raiders are dropping the second single from their self titled début album, on of the best albums of the year, and it’s going to be ‘Sunlight’ .

So check the video, it’s a Bag Raiders tune and it’s got a monkey in it. Honestly, what more do you need?

It was directed by Fleur&Manu.

Mmmatthias reMixes Phonat

Our friend MMMatthias has hooked us up with his latest reMix, it’s of Phonat’s ‘Ghetto Burnin’’ and it’s another quality tune from the German producer.

Mixing up a touch of the Baleric into this Tropical Nu-Disco mix MMMatthias creates something fun and funky so we (or at least, we in the northern hemisphere) can forget this nightmare weather! The track has more Tropical and less of his usual retro synth work, but maybe that just what we need right now!

Phonat – Ghetto Burnin’ (Mmmatthias Mix)

Mmmatthias’ reMix is featured on the ‘Ghetto Burnin’ reMix package, out now, and you’ve got to check out his ‘Chords: Best Of 2010’ mixtape here.
