OhYeah!’s new tune

ohyeah

German producer OhYeah!’s new track, ‘Be Tough,’ is described by himself as “80s flavoured skateboard Italo disco”. Intrigued? I am.

‘Be Tough’ defiantly roughs up the Italo and sends it into overdrive. With a relentless bassline powering the song along, OhYeah! drops layer after layer of samples, vocoding, and thick, thick retro synth sounds. More in-your-face than the Disco track you’d expect from OhYeah! this is the kind of track to drop at peak time and watch the dancefloor explode.

DannielRadall’s new EP

DannielRadall

DannielRadall has just released a new EP, comprised entirely of reMixes and rewords of Jef Barbara’ ‘Cocaine Love’

The ‘Cocaine Love’ EP is a journey through twisted ElectroPop, sleazy synth Funk and the dark side of the 80’s. That doesn’t mean that this EP doesn’t have a groove though, check out ‘On Mirror’ which takes the song to a slow jam Disco place where Moog leads and big 80’s chords form a path that leady you to the dark underbelly of DiscoPop. The original DanielRandall reMix of the track is a strange and enticing mixture of reverb soaked Chillwave and an Italo, almost EBM bassline, which seems to counterpoint and accentuate the slight sense of dread in the vocals.

Marsheaux reMixes Sally Shapiro

SallyShapiro

Out favourite Greek SynthPop girls Marsheaux have taken on Swedish DiscoPop heroine Sally Shapiro (and that Agebjörn bloke) for their latest reMix.

‘Jackie Jackie (Spend This Winter With Me)’get a classic SynthPop makeover with an Italo twist. Clean and crisp synth sounds in Marsheaux’s modern-retro style, taking influence from early 80’s SynthPop and mid-80’s Italo, pile up in their reMix which retains the introspective nature of the original but adds a few layers of electronics.

Para One & Tacteel’s new EP

Para One & Tacteel

French duo and producers in their own rights Para One & Tacteel drop a new EP this week after a long stretch of silence.

The EP, ‘Fair Enough’, contains a pretty stunning five tracks. Intricately crafted electronic music with a Disco groove, an experimental side to them and some cinematic musicality. ‘Rome’ is the most Disco track on the EP, funky analog tweaking for a 70’s synth sound flies atop a rounded bass sound and a solid, head nodding, foundation. But underneath the dancefloor orientation and the electronic indulgences there is a well written song too. Both the composition and arrangement are first class. ‘A1’ rolls like a distorted Italo tune in the hands of a Dub experimentalist, these guys obviously have fun with creating electronic music and a definite ear for what gets people dancing. This is a recommended EP.

Johan Agebjörn + Le Prix + Sally Shapiro + Fred Ventura = Alice

This might get confusing, so hold tight.

Johan Agebjörn, frankly amazing, album ‘Casablanca Nights’ features a whole host of ElectroPop collaborations, some of the best tracks to be released this year. Amongst those is a couple of tunes with Le Prix, including ‘Alice’ featuring the vocal talents of Fred Ventura and Miss Sally Shapiro. This track, ‘Alice, is now getting a 12” release from Disco Evolution, a sublabel of Flashback Records under the moniker Fred Ventura Vs. Sally Shapiro. Got it?

It’s a sweet, slightly Italo in it’s bassline, ElectroPop track, with a huge chorus. Surprisingly traditional SynthPop in it’s arrangement the track is an awesome meeting of classic SynthPop and Agebjörn modern, slick, production. The 12” also features the ‘Energy Mix’, which turns up the Italo side of the track by dropping an amazing mid-80’s bassline. There’s actually a strong Pet Shop Boys feel to the reMix, and that’s definitely no bad thing.

Goin’ Old School: Laura Branigan (or) Raf – Self Control

Straight from 1984, here is both Laura Branigan and co-wirter Raf’s versions of ‘Self Control’, both blew up in Europe that year but only Branigan’s made any impact across the Atlantic. I can never decide which version I prefer but both are definitely better than the subsequent covers.

Moustache Machine’s Boulevard

Moustache Machine, he of the Italo Cassuis reMix we featured a while back had dropped a new track, ‘Boulevard Malesherbes’ that is cock full of Electro Boogie greatness.

There’s more synth Funk that you can handle in this track, the bassline alone is pure electronic Disco awesomeness, but add to that the synth toms and the 80’s chords and you have a chilled summer Disco tune that is prefect for long hot nights in good company.

AXXE & StardonE

The ElectroSleaze of AXXE plus StardonE’s Cosmic Disco. How good a combination is that?

Actually, StardonE brings things a back to earth a little with this reMix which is more rooted in late 80’s SynthPop than his usual spacey Disco Funk, even going so far as to include a little Italo in the mix. the end result being a track that could have rocked Hi-NRG dancefloors a couple of decades ago but will also rock Disco dancefloors today.
