Led Er Est

LedErEst

The later part of last year saw a resurgence of what ‘they’ are now calling Minimal Synth or (even) Coldwave, but which I would really just call SynthPop. I guess it’s SynthPop inspired by the late 70’s/early 80’s pioneers of the genre rather than the mid 80’s chart toppers, if you wanted to be really picky I’d call it Futurist music, but whatever, scenes do love their genre names so Minimal Synth it is!

Led Er Est hailing from Brooklyn are one of the leaders of the pack, signed to scene leaders Wierd Records and recently released their ‘Dust On Common’ album which could have quite happily been released on Mute in 1979 alongside Fad Gadget and The Normal. Cheap drum machines and synths hammer away relentlessly forming a post-industrial soundscape for sombre yet emotive vocals.

Lovefoxxx & 80kidz; Ultra team-up!

Lovefoxxx

Japan based Electro heroes 80kidz ‘ave only gone and teamed up with Indie-Electro goddess Lovefoxxx of CSS, ain’t they!

Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Well the track is everything you’d hope it would be. It’s a huge, dirty juggernaut that manages to be noisy and catchy all at the same time. The combination of 80kidz chainsaw Synths and Lovefoxxx’s madness is sheer genius.

Baby Monster; She Comes Alive

BabyMonster

Electronic Duo Baby Monster’s new single ‘She Comes Alive’ will be the début single from BigStereo Records, an extension of one of our favourite blogs, BigStereo.

They couldn’t have picked a better track to kick of their label with. We’ve featured Baby Monster before, and been very impressed, so this new release had a lot to live up to. Never fear, the track doesn’t fail to impress, sharp beats, synths that just wash over you and an anthemic yet soft spoken vocal.

Keep an eye out for forthcoming Golden Bug & Jock Seams remixes. The single drops 29th March both digitally and on a 7” limited to 350 copies.

Buffetlibre & Amnesty International’s ‘PEACE’ project

Peace

Spain’s Buffetlibre DJs are busy guys, when not DJing, reMixing, producing and spearheading some of the more interesting multi-artist projects around are throwing their weight behind Amnesty International to highlight human rights abuses around the world.

To highlight the worldwide injustices that AA work so hard to stop Buffetlibre’s unique concept for their charity compilation album is to create a ‘musical atlas’ featuring many and varied artists from around the globe. Such as the first ‘single’ from the album. ‘Mike’ by  Ivri Lider, one of Israel’s most successful singer/songwriters, with this sweet vocoder call & response downtime jam.

Monarchy

Monarchy

Mystery men Monarchy have been busy with some high profile reMixes of late and we are glad to report that their track ‘Gold In The Fire’, which has been hyped for a while now, is finally getting an official release thanks to Neon Gold.

We Have Band, Flak Attack and Hidden Cat chip in with the reMix work that spans WHB’s almost tribal chilled Electro, Flak Attack’s pure dance jam and Hidden Cat’s psychedelic space Disco trip.

Shy Child; The Anoraak reMix!

ShyChild04

We’ve waited with baited breath for the most exiting (to us at least) reMix from the forthcoming Shy Child singleDisconnected’. Now the wait is over.

Anoraak’s take on the tune is every bit as good as we had hoped. The meeting of Shy Child and Anoraak is just a clash of two of our favourite artists. The reMix is mostly a smooth Dreamwave epic give a slight edge by arpeggiated digital synth bass that slowly builds to a rockin’ crescendo.

Cassette Kids

CassetteKids

Australian Indie-Electro darlings Cassette Kids are poised to take us here in the UK over as they make their début on our fair shores with three London gigs in February and the release of a new single ‘Lying Around’.

Taken from the forthcoming album ‘Nothing On TV’ (which has been produced by Van She’s Michael DiFrancesco!) the single also features reMixes from Diamond Cut & Sharam Jey, who both turn the poppy Indie track into club stormers. Diamond Cut, who we’ve featured a couple of times before, and never fail to impress, turn in our favourite mix with their sweeping Nu-Disco epic.

I Am Noxious

IAmNoxious

I Am Noxious is another one of those gems I’ve been meaning to write about for some time and seeing as how it’s been a quite day and the next few days really won’t be I thought now would be a nice time to write some words. Also, the man of mystery himself has just dropped a new tune ‘Stranded On Love’.

The British purveyor of quirky, left field, ElectroPop really manages to convey feeling in his tunes in the kind of way that makes you think the song came first, before the electronics.

There’s a really easy comparison to Hot Chip here, but that’s not really lazy writing, fans of The Chip will defiantly dig I Am Noxious’ heartfelt lyrics and honest vocal style just as fans if intricate Electronica will dig the beats.
