DEVO receive Moog Innovation Award

This year the recipients of the newly titled Moog Innovation Award are none other than New Wave pioneers DEVO! The award, handed out by Moog Music to artists who’s pioneering work exemplifies the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, her previously gone to Keith Emerson, Herb Deutsch, Gershon Kingsley, Jan Hammer and Bernie Worrell (under the title the Moog Award). DEVO will receive the accolade at this years MoogFest in the last weekend of October in Asheville, NC where they will be presented with a special synthesizer, of which more details are to come.

“MoogFest is about shunning limitations, opening your mind and rejoicing in what’s next. MoogFest is about celebrating the marriage of technology and art, fearlessly embracing the future while respecting the genre-definers of the past. That’s why we created the Moog Innovation Award, to celebrate artists that helped to catapult pop music into the future and commemorate those artists that boldly burst through established norms to pave the way forward. That’s the spirit of Bob Moog and that’s the essence of the Moog Innovation Award.

The first recipient of the Moog Innovation Award is DEVO and we feel that they are a perfect representation of innovative sound-sculpting and genre-defying electronic music. Like Bob Moog, DEVO enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it. Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound. MoogFest and the Moog Innovation Award is the perfect way to pay homage to Bob Moog and his adopted hometown of Asheville, NC where he raised his kids, gave birth to some of his greatest inventions and where he re-established the company that bears his name and carries on his legacy, Moog Music.” – Emmy Parker, Moog Music

Congratulations to DEVO, well deserved!

LexiconDon; two new versions of ‘Student Body’

Well, this summer truly is the summer of LexiconDon!

See that little search box to the right? Well if you type ‘LexiconDon’ in there you will be rewarded with about a days worth of reading and music. We’ve written about the LA SynthPoppers quite a lot in recent months, but hell their début album, ‘Pink + Blue’, really was that good. We thought so anyway.

So here we have a couple of new reMixes of the second released track from the album ‘Student Body’ courtesy of the boys label dubFrequency.

De Pepe Guinta brings us a very chilled, slightly Indie, slightly Chillwave mix but we are brought straight back to the dancefloor by TomAHawk with a feel good, retro synth, house stormer!

LexiconDon’s ‘Pink + Blue’ is out now on dubFrequency/Binary, and keep it locked to electronic rumors for our forthcoming Binary event!

The Sound Of Arrows synth up The Naked & Famous

Sweeden’s kings of SynthPop, The Sound Of Arrows, have worked serious wonders with Neon Gold‘s The Naked & Famous and their recent single ‘Young Blood’.

A few new reMixes of ‘Young Blood’ are starting to come in but it’s the Swedish duo’s that really stands out mixing the New Zealand Indie-Electro with some hardcore synths which gives a whole new energy to the vocals. For something a little more chilled, try Pink Ganter’s traditional Japanese Dubstep mashup.

Anoraak Vs. Neon Indian: Chillwave Vs. Dreamwave

Neon Indian is re-releasing his critically acclaimed album of last year ‘Psychic Chasms’ as a deluxe edition complete with reMix CD.

The disk features work from the likes of Yacht, Dntel and this reMix of the title track from Valerie staple and all round retro synth genius Anoraak. It’s an interesting study on two different approaches to SynthPop, the original’s dreamy Lo-Fi psychedelia against Anoraak’s 80’s looking, Nu-Disco flavoured, chilled ElectroPop.

A taste of the new Freezepop album

There’s a new Freezepop album on the way! This is a very good thing!

After months of quiet the (now) foursome have announced that their new record, titled ‘Imaginary Friends’, will be released in November. If you’ve never been exposed to Freezepop you’re missing out, their unique brand of introspective, fun, Indie-ElectroPop had been a staple of most Electro fans collections for years now and their quirky one-on-one synthesizer sound pre-dates the current crop of BedroomPop stars and must have been a big influence on much of that scene.

‘Magnetic’, the first track to appear from the forthcoming album is pure Freezepop. DIY sounding SynthPop and tales of Liz Enthusiasm’s life. It’s good to have them back!

Freezepop – Magnetic

That there is just a 128kbps taster, you can download the high quality 320kbps mp3 in exchange for your email addy over at Freezepop’s official website, a bargain if ever I saw one!

‘Imaginary Friends’ is due to drop 9th November.

The XX Vs. Tiga

The XX’s ‘Shelter’ has been pretty reMixed to death, but I suppose there is always room for one more when it comes from the likes of Tiga.

The man gets deep and dark on this track. It’s almost a Dubstep track. 50% Dubby, 50% atmospheric soundtrack, 100% enveloping.

The XX’s self titled album and the ‘Shelter’ single are both out now.

CHEW LiPS reMix The Brute Chorus

East London’s The Brute Chorus have got their bestest mates and electronic rumors faves CHEW LiPS to favour them with a reMix of their new single ‘Heaven’.

It a cool reMix, it’s got CHEW LiPS trademark blippy synth sound but also this really nice shuffling beat that is unexpected, but welcome, with the music. I’d actually like to hear more of vocalist James Steel working in electronic music as his voice and the synths makes for an interesting and unique combination.

The Brute Chorus – Heaven (CHEW LiPS reMix)

‘Heaven’ is released 6th September with their self titled album coming a little later and featuring guest vocals from Tigs.

Gossip Culture

Gossip Culture, a solo Indie-ElectroPop project from Cleveland, Ohio has dropped his latest track ‘1985’ in the electronic rumors Inbox. And so it goes from us to you.

It’s a nice chilled synth Funk jam, like Chromeo winding down after a hard night’s partying. The Funk bass and vocoded vocals work together to product the kind of tune that seem you walking home at 5 in the morning with a smile on your face. In his own words the track is a “tribute to the year that brought us Phoebe Cates, Nintendo, and Rick James”..good call!

Gossip Culture – 1985

The track is part of a 5 track EP, ‘People talk’, due out later this year, until then show the man some MySpace love!

Mammoth Logic

This track is pure awesome!

It’s by Mammoth Logic, and ElectroPop creating duo from Adelaide who mix up SynthPop, French Electro and Post-Punk to form their analog retro sound. Multi instrumentalists Dave Crowe and Reid Jones make something that could be described as Garage Disco-Pop, the music has a distinctly live feel to it, like it’s being played rather than programmed, and the combination of analog synths, impressive vocals, a touch of vocoding and some infectious 80’s sounding chords is hard to beat.

Clubfeet

Clubfeet, they of the monster ‘Teenage Suicide (Don’t do It)’, have just dropped their new album ‘Gold On Gold’.

The Melbourne trio have a sweet 80’s pop sound, as displayed on their lead single from the album, ‘Count Your Lovers’, a laidback, piano driven, almost ballad. This is the kind of tune that you can chuck on the headphones, close your eyes, and forget about your troubles. ‘Edge Of Extremes’ has more of a Disco feel and a certain edge of Hot Chip about it. The album will defiantly be worth checking out.

The band are giving away another three free tracks from the album in exchange for your email adders here, seems like a good deal to me.

The Album ‘Gold On Gold’ and the single, ‘Count Your Lovers’ are out now on Plant Music, the single featuring reMixes from Eli Escobar and Boltan.
