Boy 8-Bit reMixed by The Loose Cannons

Boy8-Bit

Boy 8-Bit deep Electro cut from the ‘Baltic Pine’ EP, ‘Wolfen’, has been giving a complete rework by The Loose Cannons and I’m finding it hard not to call it ‘funny’.

‘Cos it is, it’s a funny track. The Loose Cannons obviously has a lot of fun with this when reMixing it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty full-on dancefloor banger built on hard beats and chainsaw synths that will go down a treat in any Electro set, but it was made with a sense of humour, which is lacking from many Electro tracks.

Edwin Van Cleef reMixes Funkstar De Luxe

FunkstarDeLuxe

It seems like it’s been a while since we heard from Valerie House-meister Edwin Van Cleef, but he has cropped up reMixing Funkstar De Luxe’s latest single ‘Do You Feel?’.

Van Cleef’s reMix is smooth, radio friendly, Electro Disco jam, keeping the vocals of the original intact and injecting some of that retro inspired synth groove we would expect from the man.

Karton

Karton

Australian Breaks duo Karton get their Electro on with this track ‘We Bleed’, the first single from their forthcoming album ‘For All Seasons’.

Backed up by reMixes from Future Funk Squad, Infusion and the Hump Day, the single is a full on slice of Electro-Rock that’s reminiscent of Infusion’s harder material (like ‘Better World’) with a huge anthemic chorus. Powerful, with huge production, this track has a driving energy that can’t be stopped!

Sound Of Habib drop ‘We Bleed’ on 17th May, the album comes later in September.

LUFRKKK

LUFRKKK

What the fuck is this now? I haven’t got much to say about Brazilian LUFRKKK, as I don’t know much. I recognize the name for some reMixes but the email I received was pretty cryptic.

As is the track, it’s an awesome melting pot of genres. Give it a listen, once you get used to it, rapping over Dreamwave style Nu-Disco is actually pretty cool. Hearing the big 80’s synths with an MC and some AutoTuned vocals takes some getting used to, but you end up thinking “if this is the direction Hip-Hop is going in, I can dig” especially when there are vocoders to ease you in. And then…once you are comfortable, once you have got used to the Hip-Hop/Dreamwave/Pop R&B/Nu-Disco/Electro-House mash-up…it gets all Drum & Bass on your ass!

Take that genres!

Au Revoir Simone’s new reMix album

AuReviourSimone02

New York based Indie-Electro darlings Au Revoir Simone are following up their acclaimed third album of last summer’, ‘Still Night, Still Light’, with an album of reMixes this June.

Titled ‘Night Light’ the release will feature reMixes from such names as Silver Columns, Aeroplane, Clock Opera, Jens Lekman, Neon Indian,Bass Clef, and Deradoorian (Angel Deradoorian from The Dirty Projectors), just to name a few!.

Silver Columns take on ‘We Are Here’ with a deep, slightly glitchy, Electro vibe, adding some new vocals and heavy percussion while the Aeroplane reMix (which first dropped late last year) of ‘Another Likely Story’ is a straight up Indie-Dance party jam!

Human Life

Aeroplane and Grum are diggin’ them, Alan Braxe is working with them. everybody seems to love LA ElectroPoppers Human Life. The attention is well deserved too, their forthcoming second single, ‘In It Together’,  is an almighty clash of Nu-Disco basslines, 8-bit sounds, 80’s synth chords, 90’s House keys and Disco vocals.

Check the video, a crazy costumed scavenger hunt, directed by Dan Brophy

Acid Girls and Polygon Palace are just two of the big names contributing to the reMix package (alongside the likes of Louis La Roche and Kris Menace). Both have amped up the 90’s house feel, Acid Girls Electro-ing things up with a wonky bassline and Polygon Palace taking a more Nu-Disco route under that lead line.

Indiscreet wants to vanish from here…

Indiscreet

French Electro artist Indiscreet has delivered something pretty special in his new EP, ‘The I’, not only does it contain four tracks of Ed Banger-esq noisy ElectroPop but also a narrative with accompanying online comic. Yes, I’m talking about a concept work here, which in the realms of Electronic Music tends to be a hell of a lot more interesting than Prog Rock concept albums of old.

Telling the time fractured story in which the protagonist lives through a self-fulfilling prophesy of the creation of a fascist future, governed by a giant eye (The ‘I’ of the title), the story is told in reverse through the tracks on the EP and in graphic form on Indiscreet’s MySpace.

So, the music? Aggressive ElectroPop with heavy distorted synths, hard Electro-House beats and angst fuelled vocals, create a more lyrical take on the Ed Banger sound. Unmistakable French, Indiscreet seem to be writing Hard Rock songs with electronic equipment and the merging of the Rock formula with banging noisy house akin to the likes of Justice and MSTRKRFT works in such a powerful way, like a controlled chaos.

I can only imagine that an Indiscreet show is a pretty awesome live.

Arthur Baker turns his HURTS reMix up to 11!

ArthurBaker

He practically invented Electro Hip-Hop, synthed up New Order and was an influence on almost all forms of Electronic music, and most recently production legend Arthur Baker provided the wonderful dancefloor reMix of current SynthPop bright hopes HURTS’ début track, ‘Wonderful Life’.

Not content with that Baker has taken the core loop of his reMix and expanded it into a full on Electro banger! With only the barest hint of vocals, if ‘Wonderful Life’ was HURTS politely asking you to appreciate stuff, then this time they’re back with AB to convince you with baseball bats! That main riff is a killer!

ZX

ZX

Banging their way into the week comes ZX. The duo got our attention previously with a stellar reMix of Fenech-Soler’s L.A. Love as well as a couple of cool Electro-House tracks of their own.

‘Shock Therapy’, their new track, sees a harder, more Ed Banger-esq sound with big distorted synths and some brilliantly melodic cut-up vocals

It’s pretty criminal that no one has snapped up these guys yet, until they do go give them some major MySpace lovin’!

Owl City gets the magic touch of Grum

OwlCity

I remember a few weeks ago Grum saying on Twitter that he was reMixing Owl City, I thought he was joking…apparently not!

Unlike I lot of people, I actually don’t hate Owl City, they remind me of a Poppier The Postal Service, and I did like The Postal Service (and I like Pop!). So I’m OK with OC going in but damn does Grum work some serious magic here. In a way he’s taken Owl City, and made it Monarchy, and that’s an ace thing to do! The mixture of Adam Young’s introspective, borderline Emo, SynthPop and Grum’s Disco infused Dreamwave creates this genius dancefloor ElectroPop gold!
