Minitel Rose & Wagner

We’ve got another reMix of Minitel Rose’s rad ‘Wild Birds’ here for to to celebrate the final build up to the  release of the bands second album ‘Atlantique’. due out in November.

Two years after their truly incredible, and arguably game changing, début album ‘the French Machine’ the trio are back with an album composed largely in a rented house overlooking the ocean in Quentin’s hometown of Pornic, France. Minitel Rose’s first album was an amazing collection of retro synth Indie masterpieces. A futuristic and romantic sound that helped kick start the Dreamwave while keeping one foot in the Indie Rock scene. Let’s hope the new album is just as good. Check out Wagner eclectic dance take on ‘Wild Birds’

Penguin Prison reMix Kylie’s new single

Ahh, Penguin Prison reMixing Kylie Minogue’s new single ‘Get Outta’ Of My Way’, that’s exactly the kind of chaser I need right now!

What can I say? PP’s BedroomPop/Bedroom Disco lends itself to Kylie perfectly, while the original is an awesome slice of DiscoPop, this reMix is more intimate and, well, groovy! It’s got this almost Lo-Fi Indie Funk with it’s subtle guitar jangles and toy town synth work.

Nice Friday groove, enjoy!

‘Get Outta’ My Way’ is released 27th September.

New Alphaville single!

The almighty Alphaville are back with a new single and album! Next month sees the German SynthPop pioneers releasing their first studio work for 7 years. Now down to just frontman and foundering member Marian Gold, Alphaville have been a staple of the SynthPop scene since ‘84’s chart monsters ‘Big In Japan’ and ‘Forever Young’.

The problem, really, with the comeback material is Gold’s choice of collaborators. The lead single ‘I’d Die For You Today’ is actually an excellent song but the production, by Sebastian Komor (formerly of EBM/FuturePop outfit Icon Of Coil and several small projects since IoC’s demise), sounds so dated and stagnant. At the height of FuturePop’s success, in the late 90’s/early 2000’s this would have gone down a treat, but here in 2010 it just sounds almost musically naive, which is a shame as it hampers an otherwise excellent song. You have to wonder with Alphaville being so influential, and acclaimed, there must be countless contemporary and relevant acts who would kill to work with Marian Gold, why they went in this direction?

Anyhoo, the reMix package is also an odd crop of rather samey sounding old trance artists, this reMix by euphoric stalwarts Blank & Jones shows off song best, it’s a tiny bit cheesy trance, but mostly a nice 80’s leaning ElectroPop track with an epic feel that really supports the song, on multiple listens its really quite good, worth picking up the single for!

Alphaville – I Die For You Today (Blank & Jones So 80’s Extended Mix)

‘I Die For You Today’ and Alphaville’s forthcoming new album are due out in October, until then you could do a hell of a lot worse than checking out their awesome back catalogue.

Danger Vs. La Roux

I get the feeling ‘In For The Kill’ is due for a rerelease. La Roux has been chatting about filming a new video for it on her Twitter feed and now we have this gem. It’s only bloody Danger reMixing La Roux init!!!

Danger and La Roux is an awesome combination, and it doesn’t disappoint. It does, however, surprise. It’s a mid-tempo, bass heavy, almost Dubsteppy in places jam that drops in bits and pieces of familiar Danger style melody. It works amazingly well and comes off as a kinda’ 80’s Dubstep track. New genre anyone?

La Roux – In For The Kill (Danger Ocean reMix)

No release date for the rereleased ‘In For The Kill’ yet, looks like soon though.

Breton reMixes Chapel Club’s new single

UK Indie outfit Chapel Club are celebrating the release of their next single ‘All The Eastern Girls’ by giving away this reMix by Breton.

Breton turns the track into a full-on synth stomper yet preserves the vocals which should make a combination appealing to readers of this site. The retention of the, almost crooning, Indie vocals over some furious synth work results in quite a unique slice of SynthPop.

‘All The eastern Girls’ is due out October 11th.

DEVO receive Moog Innovation Award

This year the recipients of the newly titled Moog Innovation Award are none other than New Wave pioneers DEVO! The award, handed out by Moog Music to artists who’s pioneering work exemplifies the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, her previously gone to Keith Emerson, Herb Deutsch, Gershon Kingsley, Jan Hammer and Bernie Worrell (under the title the Moog Award). DEVO will receive the accolade at this years MoogFest in the last weekend of October in Asheville, NC where they will be presented with a special synthesizer, of which more details are to come.

“MoogFest is about shunning limitations, opening your mind and rejoicing in what’s next. MoogFest is about celebrating the marriage of technology and art, fearlessly embracing the future while respecting the genre-definers of the past. That’s why we created the Moog Innovation Award, to celebrate artists that helped to catapult pop music into the future and commemorate those artists that boldly burst through established norms to pave the way forward. That’s the spirit of Bob Moog and that’s the essence of the Moog Innovation Award.

The first recipient of the Moog Innovation Award is DEVO and we feel that they are a perfect representation of innovative sound-sculpting and genre-defying electronic music. Like Bob Moog, DEVO enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it. Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound. MoogFest and the Moog Innovation Award is the perfect way to pay homage to Bob Moog and his adopted hometown of Asheville, NC where he raised his kids, gave birth to some of his greatest inventions and where he re-established the company that bears his name and carries on his legacy, Moog Music.” – Emmy Parker, Moog Music

Congratulations to DEVO, well deserved!

Russ Chimes – ‘Midnight Club’

Just for the hell of it, so you can watch the entire thing without having to your favourite music site (er…us!), here’s all three parts of Russ Chimes’ ‘Midnight Club’ EP mini-movie, as directed by Saman Keshavarz and produced by Francis Pollara.

Saman and Francis previously created the equally awesome Luv Deluxe video for Cinnamon Chasers, they’ve got this dream like style with an underlying tension that seems to gel really well with electronic music. Let’s how we see more of their work soon.

The ‘Midnight Club’ EP is coming in October on Eye Industries

Russ Chimes ‘Midnight Club’ trilogy complete

Russ Chimes‘ ‘Midnight Club’ EP trilogy is complete. Director Saman Keshavarz’s experiment in non-linier storytelling over three pieces (to accompany the three tracks on Chime’s forthcoming EP) has reached it’s conclusion, the predicted ass kicking in tow.

Getting the girl and killing the baddies is the order of the day with a healthy dose of intrigue and the coolest of cool LA summer backdrop.

Musically the EP sounds awesome, with it being hard to choose between ‘Tertre Rouge’ and this new track ‘Targa’ as my favourite. Either way the ‘Midnight Club’ EP sounds like a masterwork of Nu-Disco.

‘Shampain’; Marina’s new video

Probably the most purely ElectroPoppy track on Marina And The Diamonds ace début album, ‘The Family Jewels’, ‘Shampain’ is the next track to receive single treatment.

It’s a big, 80’s sounding, Power Pop track that’s a very good choice as a single and the video has more than a few 80’s inspired goings on. It’s like one part walk of shame, one part Thriller

The single for ‘Shampain’ drops October 11 via 679 Recordings.

LexiconDon; two new versions of ‘Student Body’

Well, this summer truly is the summer of LexiconDon!

See that little search box to the right? Well if you type ‘LexiconDon’ in there you will be rewarded with about a days worth of reading and music. We’ve written about the LA SynthPoppers quite a lot in recent months, but hell their début album, ‘Pink + Blue’, really was that good. We thought so anyway.

So here we have a couple of new reMixes of the second released track from the album ‘Student Body’ courtesy of the boys label dubFrequency.

De Pepe Guinta brings us a very chilled, slightly Indie, slightly Chillwave mix but we are brought straight back to the dancefloor by TomAHawk with a feel good, retro synth, house stormer!
