Probably the most purely ElectroPoppy track on Marina And The Diamonds ace début album, ‘The Family Jewels’, ‘Shampain’ is the next track to receive single treatment.
It’s a big, 80’s sounding, Power Pop track that’s a very good choice as a single and the video has more than a few 80’s inspired goings on. It’s like one part walk of shame, one part Thriller
The single for ‘Shampain’ drops October 11 via 679 Recordings.
Well, this summer truly is the summer of LexiconDon!
See that little search box to the right? Well if you type ‘LexiconDon’ in there you will be rewarded with about a days worth of reading and music. We’ve written about the LA SynthPoppers quite a lot in recent months, but hell their début album, ‘Pink + Blue’, really was that good. We thought so anyway.
So here we have a couple of new reMixes of the second released track from the album ‘Student Body’ courtesy of the boys label dubFrequency.
De Pepe Guinta brings us a very chilled, slightly Indie, slightly Chillwave mix but we are brought straight back to the dancefloor by TomAHawk with a feel good, retro synth, house stormer!
Nu-Disco groover B-Xentric! should be a name well known to readers of this blog, he’s knocked out some amazing reMixes in the past couple of years, and some cool original tracks too!
He recently dropped his latest jam over on his SoundCloud page and, seeing as he’s gracing my fair city of Bristol with his presence this coming weekend I thought it was high time I shared it with you lot. It’s got the funk more than his previous work, but that’s no bad thing, the rolling sax is pure joy!
Damn, you’ve gotta’ love Jagz Kooner reMixes. He always turns in these really deep, electronic, powerhouses.
Pacific!’s forthcoming lead single from their long awaited album, ‘Narcissus’, is his latest victim, transforming the track into a BladeRunner-esq odyssey over a relentless dance beat. It’s an eight minute journey, an analog epic with a distinct beginning, middle and end. A true musical narrative.
Xenomania drummer/songwriter Florrie has a new single out soon, ‘Give Me Your Love’ which, as well as being a nice slice of Pop, will also feature reMixes from habitual Florrie reMixer Fred Falke and the man Justin Faust.
Falke’s reMix is a power Pop track with arpeggios that drag you straight to the dancefloor, but it’s Justin Faust’s reMix that really hooks. From the electro toms onward it’s a crazy good Nu-Disco stormer.
From it’s seemingly never ending build to the eventual beat and bass drop it’s clear that the FHR guys had a lot of fun reMixing this track. It kinda’ takes classic OMD and puts it through an eclectic Electro meat grinder and manages to put it back together in a coherent, and catchy way.
I love the fact that SynthPop pioneers such as OMD are getting such hip names in the current Electro scene to reMix for them, it shows they are still enjoying, and keeping up with, electronic music.
The ‘If You Want It’ single is released 6th September with ‘The History Of Modern’ slated to be released later this year.
Seconds out! Round two! (But first watch part one!)
Director Saman Keshavarz’s mini-movie to accompany all three tracks on Russ Chimes’ forthcoming EP ‘Midnight Club’ continues with part two, ‘Tertre Rouge’.
The story is unfolding, but in even less of a linier fashion than part one. Still, things are coming to light, there’s shit you should know, man! I’ll let you just watch.
Musically this is my favourite track to come from the EP so far, this is like a mixture of classic, Valerie days Chimes and this year’s super reMixer Chimes, and a perfect combination of the two.
The 3rd and final video premieres 9th September and the EP is coming out in October.
Peterborough Synth-House duo are back and dropping their début EP ZX on brand new label Metamimetic this month.
These guys do an ace job of bringing both the Noisy electro-House bangerness of the likes of Justice and the Ed Banger crew and the smooth retro 80’s sounds of the Valerie posse et al. This unique combination makes their music both smooth and powerful at the same time mixing distorted chainsaw synths, retro keys and 8-bit sounds into one, surprisingly melodic, organised chaos. Go check their EP at the Metamimetic webite.
A few new reMixes of ‘Young Blood’ are starting to come in but it’s the Swedish duo’s that really stands out mixing the New Zealand Indie-Electro with some hardcore synths which gives a whole new energy to the vocals. For something a little more chilled, try Pink Ganter’s traditional Japanese Dubstep mashup.
