Florrie’s new video

Here is the video for the lead track from Florrie’s new EP.

‘Begging Me’ isn’t quite as catchy as some of her previous tunes but it is a fun a slick slice of Xenomania mid-tempo Pop that I can already feel worming it’s way into my brain.

The video was directed by Price James.

‘Begging Me’ is out now.

She’s The Queen & Jules Schimmer

It’s Thursday! You know what that means!

I swear I’m not doing this deliberately, people keep sending me sweet She’s The Queen reMixes on a Wednesday!

Today’s action comes courtesy of UK producer and DJ Jules Schimmer who lays down a deep arpeggiated retro bassline and some shimmering synths for She’s The Queen’s ‘As We Run’. Taking the original to an early 80’s place with his drum patterns, rapid fire claps and electro toms give it a authentic Electro flavour and creates a nice juxtaposition between Emily’s soulful vocals and Jules’ almost B-Boy beats.

MMMatthias reMixes SebastiAn

This is what happens when producers with unique ideas about capitalisation (of letters, not globaly) meet.

MMMatthias, one of our favourite German producers had reMixed SebastiAn latest single, and the precursor to his now album, ‘Embody’. MMMatthias ups the tempo and Discos things up a little. More choppy and noisy than we’re used to from MMMatthias, the cut-ups and 8-bit sounds give the tune a real edge and counterpoints the smooth retro synths. The whole thing is keps rocking with some dark growling bass synths. Great stuff!

Monarchy mix up ‘Gold In The Fire’ and ‘Eternal Flame’

Here’s a pretty odd track, but it really works.

Monarchy, true to their name, in celebration of the impending royal wedding have recorded this piano mashup between their ‘Gold In The Fire’ and The Bangles’ ‘Eternal Flame’. The two seem to go together perfectly and it reminds you what an immense Pop song.

‘Eternal Flame’ is.

Monarchy – Gold In The Eternal Fire

I’m not bothered about the royal wedding in the slightest, save for the fact that I have to  travel into London tomorrow and it’s going to be a nightmare! Other than that it just seems to be a be a massive financial burden on we, the public. We’re not even invited!

Selebrities new video

Brooklyn New Wavers Selebrities are back with a new video for ‘Can’t Make Up My Mind’, a brilliant meeting of Disco and Shoegaze.

Taken from their forthcoming début album ‘Can’t Make Up My Mind’ gives a SynthPop flavour to a deep late 80’s Indie sound. I love how Selebrities are such a melting pot of influences, and they manage to make sometimes quite different sounds, work together perfectly.

Check the track too, it’s a great Walkman tune!

Rex The Dog’s ‘Here We Go Scando’ mixtape

Rex The Dog - Mixtape #1 Here We Go Scando = Completely made up of Scandinavian, mostly Swedish (or reMixed by someone from Sweeden) ElectroPop. The whole mix has a cool, icy, edge to it but with an underlying warmth. Very nice to chill to.

Maighréad

Maighréad is a London based ElectroPop artist who recently released her début EP, ‘In the Beginning’ alongside Disco Damage.

The Irish-born singer is currently hard at work on the video for ‘In The Beginning’, until then check out some of what she has on offer. The single is a pounding Electro track that displays Maighréad’s vocals to have a lot more soul than I would have expected. With something of an Irish Billie Ray Martin quality to her voice I can imagine Maighréad is a fantastic singer live (I hope to find out in the future). There’s a bit of Annie Lennox in there too, albeit with a Limerick twang that gives the vocals a unique twist on the classic huge pop delivery. All this juxtaposes quite nicely with the Maxi Jazz-esq rhyming on ‘In The Beginning’. ‘Sea’, one of Maighréad’s previous tracks, is actually my favourite. It’s pure Eurythmics (and seeing as how Eurythmics haven’t been Eurythmics for years, there is a need for someone to be making this kind of music). Cold, harsh synths are perfectly tempered by Maighréad’s warm vocals giving the track an light-in-the-darkness- feel to it.
