The Human League: ‘Night People’ is here!

The Human League are back! And they’re taking names and kicking ass!

Ever since the announcement that The League has signed to Mark Jones’ Wall Of Sound label we’ve been eagerly awaiting the fruits of that union, and here we have it! The first single from their upcoming ‘Credo’ album, ‘Night People’!

We were right in our previous assessment, there is something of ‘The Sound Of The Crowd’ about it. It’s sounding both really 80’s, and pretty contemporary too. Almost like a modern reMix of a classic The Human League track. The second half of the song is particularly epic when it evolves from early THL sounding chants to a sweeping finale.

It’s so good to have them back!

The Human League – Night People (Album Version)

‘Credo’ is due out in March 2011 preceded by the ‘Night People’ single which will feature reMixes from Cerrone, Mylo, The Emperor Machine and Villa.

Stay tuned, the video is premiering on Monday.

Hear The Human League’s new single, ‘Night People’

The Human League recently débuted their forthcoming new single ‘Night People’ at a live show in Berlin and luckily it was captured by audience members with cameraphones.

Taken from the album ‘Credo’, set for release in March 2011, the ‘Night People’ single will come with reMixes from Mylo, The Emperor Machine and Villa.

It’s not possible to fully judge the new single from this footage, but it does give a clue as to what we can expect.

I’m thinking there is a bit of a ‘Sound Of The Crowd’ vibe going on here. We’re defiantly looking forward to this release, and catching The League live next month.

DāM-FunK covers The Human League

Dr. Martins, British footwear provider to the Indie inclined for, well, forever, are celebrating 50 years in the boot business by commissioning a whole heap of artists to cover 10 classic tracks.

This is the track you’ll be particularly interested in. La Electro-Funk agitator DāM-FunK taking The Human League’s ‘The Things That Dreams Are Made Of’ to Moog heaven.

Like Barry White channelling Phil Oakey this is a really raw Funk, bass heavy version.

Computer Club & Frankmusik!!!

ComputerClub

Heavy, dirty Electro with UK ElectroPop genius Frankmusik’s vocals? That’s what you get with this collaboration between Vincent and LA’s Computer Club.

Walking the line between ElectroPop and noisy Electro-House, ‘Loosing Streak’ is taken from the forthcoming ‘Nerd Secrets’ 9-track EP.

Computer Club has also dropped this reMix of SynthPop classic ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by The Human League (who we are eagerly awaiting news of their Wall Of Sound release from) that brings that unmistakable riff to the dancefloor by beefing up the drums and bass.

The Human League sign with Wall Of Sound!!!

TheHumanLeague

Big, exiting, news! Finally someone has snapped up The Human League!

It was announce this week that the League have signed a multi-album deal with Wall Of Sound! This is fantastic news, WoS are a cool label, Oakey and the girls will be in good company as the label is home to the likes of Shy Child, Soulwax, Røyksopp, Tiga, tEPr etc… Just thinking about that kind of production and reMix talent getting their hands on The League is damn exiting, as is the fact that we will now be getting new League material!

Mark Jones, head of WoS, (who has apparently been chasing The League for years) said this: “It’s an honour and inspiration to have them signed to Wall Of Sound.  They say ‘never work with you heroes’…but fuck that for starters”. Nicely put! And from Oakey himself: “Emerging from a decade in which everyone seems to have spent their time looking backwards we are delighted to have the opportunity to march forwards once again and attempt to produce new and exciting music in a new and exciting partnership.”  See, everyone’s exited!

Listen to their 1981 single ‘The Sound Of The Crowd’ in celebration!

Gonna’ be keeping a close eye on this!

Little Boots album tracks (inc. Phil Oakey!)

LittleBoots6

Pretty exiting stuff, two tracks from Little Boots’ forthcoming album, ‘Hands’, right here, right now!

Remedy is pure Little Boots, dancefloor electronics that are just that little bit more interesting than your average Pop song and a huge chorus, every bit as infectious as her previous tracks.

But the main event here is ‘Symmetry’, her duet with The Human League’s Phil Oakey, just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. So the track’s bouncing along nicely. Again, it’s proper Boots Pop. Some nice filtered bass and Victoria is working it, then ‘bam’, Phil come in and takes the track to another level. As with his recent collaboration with Pet Shop Boys he seems to dominate the track (I don’t mean that in a bad way!). Loving the 80’s spoken bridge!

I can’t wait for the album release (but then, I would love some new The Human League too!).

That Pet Shop Boys and Phil Oakey track!

PetShopBoys3

There is so much that makes me smile about this track. For a start you have Chris Lowe singing! Not only is the song brilliant, but it also feels like a SynthPop in-joke (in the best possible way).

Neil and Chris’ parts are nostalgic, slightly lamenting and very English (great use of “bloody”), then the analog bass drops and Oakey crashes the party as a doom and gloom merchant. It’s like a late 80’s PSB track invaded by a very early 80’s The Human League song.

Just hearing a Pet Shop Boys track and suddenly listening to Phil Oakey is pure SynthPop gold!

Brilliant…just brilliant!

Pet Shop Boys (Feat. Phil Oakey Of The Human League) – This Used To Be The Future (zShare) (MediaFire)

That was a low quality taster, the track features on the limited edition double cd version of PSB’s new album ‘Yes’, entitled ‘Yes Etc…’. The whole album is classic Pet Shop Boys in a way we’ve not seen for a couple of records. A worthy investment:

Little Boots Vs. Phil Oakey clip!!!

littleboots5

Last week we reported that The Human League’s Phil Oakey would be lending his vocals to a track on Little Boots début album. Well, now you can have yourself a tiny teaser of what that will hold.

Little Boots (Feat. Phil Oakey) – Symmetry (Edit) (Clip) (zShare) (MediaFire)

There’s not much to hear, it cuts off before the chorus, but it is just fantastic to hear Victoria and Phil in the same song. Exiting stuff indeed!

Over on Little Boots’ blog she has posted her thoughts regarding the track listing for the album, which currently stands at:

‘Stuck On Repeat’
‘Meddle’
‘Earthquake’
‘New In Town’
‘Click’
‘Tune Into My Heart’
‘Symetry’ (Feat. Philip Oakey)
‘Not Now’
‘Hearts Collide’

‘Love Kills’ is no great loss but I would like to see ‘Mathematics’ in there.

Phil Oakey gets around

philoakey1

News has broken this week that, Electro legend, The Human League’s Phil Oakey will be providing guest vocals for two SynthPop superstars.

First up, Pet Shop Boys have confirmed that Philip will be will appear on  ‘This Used To Be The Future’ which will be on the limited edition 2 CD version of their forthcoming album, ‘Yes’.

Oakey has also recorded a duet, entitled ‘Symmetry’, with none other than Electro girl-of-the-moment Little Boots! It will appear on her, soon to be released, album. Apparently Phil approached Victoria after hearing her ‘funtime’ cover of ‘Don’t You Want Me’ on YouTube.

I love Phil’s vocals, he may not be the best singer in the world but he has a tone that lends itself perfectly to everything he does.

Both of these collabarations with top Electro acts have me salivating…can’t wait!
