[Audio] Richard X reMixes Susanne Sundfør’s ‘Delirious’

Susanne Sundfør

Scandinavian SynthPop chanteuse and frequent Röyksopp collaborator Susanne Sundfør’s new album, Ten Love Songs, is released later this month. Ahead of the release cam the single Delirious, and now following that comes this massive reMix from Richard X, who we really don’t hear enough from these days. Check out what the ElectroPop producer extraordinaire coxes out of the Norwegian singer below.

Richard delivers his particular brand of playful and experimental, but absolutely Pop, electronic music with this one. Sundfør’s epic and dramatic tale is soundtracked perfectly with a particularly majestic brand of SynthPop; spikey bass rubbing shoulder with rising stings and electro zaps to build and incredibly funky nervous tension.

[Download] Nude Disco edits Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Be My Lover Now’

London synth Disco collective Nude Disco are gearing up for the release of their second compilation album. Out soon, if Selections Vol. 2 is anything like the first album we’re in for a treat. To hype thing up a bit, Vern is releasing some of his own edits to get your musical juices flowing. First up is this stomping dancefloor take on Lord Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder’s third single from their self titled 1984 album; Be My Lover Now.

This is an edit in the truest sense of the word. Vern has taken what works best from his years of DJing experience, taken the track apart, and re-rolled it into the kind of thing that packs his monthly Brixton club night. Bigger sounding beats, bigger sounding bass, driving hi-hats; but leaving the spirit of the song intact; ‘cos you don’t fuck with Oakey and Moroder. The result is a nice crate secret weapon. Apparently there’s more on the way.

[Download] Lemon.’s ‘You Know Too Much’

Lemon.

Victoria Sheahan A.K.A. Lemon. is a brand new artist hailing from Toronto (as many of the best people in the world do). Unlike many of her contemporaries, Lemon. steers clear of the Nu-folky tropes, it’s so easy for solo artists to fall into, in favour of pairing her lilting voice with an emotionally used array of synths. Check out her début track, You Know Too Much, and wrap your ears around the start of something special.

You Know Too Much sees Victoria deliver a passionate and heartfelt vocal performance. Her delicate voice really sounds like it is wearing it’s heart on it’s sleeve. The song itself is in the finest tradition of North American singer/songwriters, relatable and laced with heartbreak. What sets the song, and Lemon., apart is the waves of ominous and beautiful electronic. Haunting and bizarrely catchy (in an otherworldly yet Tropical way), from he dark brooding tones to the drifting melodies, Lemon. has perfectly matched her intoxicating voice with smokey clouds of synth brilliance. You need to hear this.

du-tonc

It’s been a while we’ve been waiting for the next track from the coalition of Matts Du Tonc. International jet-setters MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie have chosen to kick off this year with a track that they’ve been kicking around for a while, honing it to perfection. Every Song is the first track from the Indie-Disco duo to be picked up by Eskimo Recordings; we can see that partnership between the acclaimed label and these guys being a long and fruitful one.

Breezy Island vibes kick off Every Song; which is possibly the most 80s track from Du Tonc to date. A Disco New Wave oddessy with a swirling mixture of rolling bass and gently stabbing synths liberally peppered with Island guitar that gives off a Tropical early-80s Blondie vibe. This all makes of a blissful soundtrack for Matt (the Van She one) to deliver a summery croon that exudes an effortless cool. January feels like July with Every Song dripping out of the speakers.

[Audio] Giorgio Moroder & Kylie Minogue’s ‘Right Here, Right Now’

kylie-minogue-right-here-right-now-2

So, we weren’t particularly enamoured with Italo Disco legend Giorgio Moroder’s ‘comeback’ single, 74 Is The New 24, it seemed to us to be a bit pedestrian. Modern dance music made by someone who had just discovered it, all over compressed kicks and stuff. That said, we were still eager to hear his new album, hoping some of it channels the shiny analog Disco we love Moroder for, and particularly the collaborations with Charli XCX and Kylie Minogue. Well look what happened over the weekend, the Kylie track leaked, and it’s amazing.

Right Here, Right Now is shimmering synthetic DiscoPop created by the original innovator. It seems some of Moroder’s time with Daft Punk rubbed off on him as the track occasionally shows hints of Random Access Memories, but with more of an electronic Pop sheen. This is big vintage Disco with contemporary Pop production, utterly infectious. Kylie sounds as sweet as ever as the track strikes exactly the balance of new and old we were anticipating from the album. Right Here, Right Now makes up for Moroder’s last couple of single attempts a hundred times and with a video rumoured to have been shot it looks likely this will be a single.

[Audio] Dirty Vegas cover Duran Duran’s ‘Save A Prayer’

Dirty Vegas

So we made a decision not to cover tunes that were released while we were on holiday. There was as surprising heap of awesome tunes in the past few weeks and we just haven;t got the time to write about all of them, but this little gem unleashed just before X-Mas as a freebie, and soon to be getting a full reMix package released via d:vision Records, is too good to pass over. It’s dancefloor legends Dirty Vegas thank you to their fans for the support in 2014 in the form of a cover of Duran Duran’s monster 1982 hit Save A Prayer.

Paul and Steve have injected the tune with their instantly recognisable brand of soulful House vibes and Balearic groove; which goes surprisingly well with the song. In a way, Rio era Duran Duran was the original Tropical Dance Pop so it’s no surprise that this translates so well to a summertime floorfiller. The original’s riff have been morphed into a hands-in-the-air chord progression but the enigmatic island atmosphere remains. A beautiful coming together of new and old.

[Download] Teeel’s ‘Imperial’ reMixed by MNYNMS

teeel

Here’s something petty sweet and blissful to kick off you week. This storming reMix of our favourite new Jersey synth master Teeel’s Imperial comes from new Texan duo MNYNMS (who shall henceforth be referred to as Many Names). Putting aside for a second our hatred of artists who just have names they’ve dropped the vowels from (c’mon, it’s not 2007 any more!), this is an absolutely beautiful slice of synthesizer gold that offers up something for both the feet and the heart.

Dropping the tempo and heaping on the lushness, MNYNMS give the track their own spin. Subtly introducing a slight laid back Deep House groove that has been wrapped up in warm SynthPop swirls to Imperial, this reMix takes all the things we love Teeel for (classic synthetics, majestic, magical and galactic moods and a relaxed dancefloor vibe) and runs with them; culminating in a richly textured and emotionally resonant SynthPop tune that demands to be stuck on repeat. Let this one carry you away.
