[Download] Du Tonc reMix Pixies ‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’

The PIXIES

After premièring it on their recent Music To Show Aliens When They Land On Earth mixtape, Du Tonc (the globe trotting team-up of Matt Van Schie and MiGHty mOUse) have unleashed their the surprise tune from that mix. A reMix of Pixies late 80s/early 90s Indie club staple; Monkey Gone To Heaven. As a prelude to their forthcoming new single, released later this month, this reMix is bound to keep you going for a while.

Effortlessly blending a bit of Indie nostalgia (if you like that sort of thing) with their magical Tropical Disco sound, Du Tonc strip down most of the original, keeping a few grooves and vocal snatches, but manage to hold onto Monkeys Gone To Heaven‘s feel with Matt Van Schie’s trademark Disco dream basslines and the waves of lush synths and wicked little licks we expect from these two. It’s a track the you can’t help but smile about, particularly if you’re familiar with the original. Summer goodness right here.

MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie are back in their Du Tonc guise with the eagerly awaited follow up to January’s Every Song. Written on the radio in the US, Animals marks the start of the journey toward the duo’s début album, of which they are putting the finishing touched to right now. These guys have made a big impact on the Nu-Disco and Indie-Electro scenes since the start of their collaboration back in 2013 and we are pretty pleased they are going the album route (it’s a format we, unlike a lot of people, feel is still very important. It;s gonna’ be a big year for Du Tonc.

Animals serves up generous helpings of, what is now, Du Tonc’s trademark sound; blissful Topical-tinged Indie-Electro with a solid Disco backing. Blissful it may be, but don’t mistake it for shallow. Animals, as with the rest of Du Tonc’s output, is wildly more cerebral than it’s contemporaries, with Matt Van Schie giving an emotional and intelligent performance over a intricately crafted combination of summery ElectroPop and retro-futuristic Cosmic Disco. As ever, Du Tonc deliver something for both the head and the feet.

It’s been a while we’ve been waiting for the next track from the coalition of Matts Du Tonc. International jet-setters MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie have chosen to kick off this year with a track that they’ve been kicking around for a while, honing it to perfection. Every Song is the first track from the Indie-Disco duo to be picked up by Eskimo Recordings; we can see that partnership between the acclaimed label and these guys being a long and fruitful one.

Breezy Island vibes kick off Every Song; which is possibly the most 80s track from Du Tonc to date. A Disco New Wave oddessy with a swirling mixture of rolling bass and gently stabbing synths liberally peppered with Island guitar that gives off a Tropical early-80s Blondie vibe. This all makes of a blissful soundtrack for Matt (the Van She one) to deliver a summery croon that exudes an effortless cool. January feels like July with Every Song dripping out of the speakers.
