Monsieur Adi reMixes Madonna beautifully

Madonna’s ‘Get Together’, a relatively recent track, have been lovingly reworked my Electro renaissance man Monsieur Adi.

You can tell it’s one of his favourite Madonna tracks by the sheer thought and consideration that has gone into this mix. Slowing the pace and counterpointing his trademark strings with the warmest bass you’ll ever hear Adi creates a deep, enveloping track that you can just sink into.

Johan Agebjörn & Ercola & Queen Of Hearts AND Dreamtrak

Johan Agebjörn & Ercola’s ‘The Last Day Of Summer’ from Johan’s ‘Cassablanca Nights’ album featuring vocal stylings from Queen Of Hearts has gone and got itself a single release with reMix duties performed by Agebjörn collaborator Le Prix, Le Matos, Ercola himself and sometime Queen Of Hearts producer Dreamtrak.

Dreamtrak brings in a deep Pop/House groove with a nice early 90’s feel in the bassline and piano with the kind of FM bassline not heard since D50 and M1 rigs on TOTP played by dudes with floppy hair. All-in-all Dreamtrak has got a perfect grasp on the 90’s DancePop thing, wrapping up those influences in a modern package that sounds nostalgic, without being a pastiche. The Queen’s vocals lend themselves well to his style too.

Goin’ Old School: Freeze – IOU

We’re going to start putting up videos, maybe daily, of classic tracks and performances ‘cos, well, why not!

Kicking things off is UK DancePop act Freeze’s Pop/Electro crossover ‘IOU’ from 1983. Arthur Baker produces for that B-Boy feel the track made it onto the soundtrack for Beat Street.

Ellie Goulding’s cover of ‘Heartbeats’ given the Cosmonaut Grechko treatment

Ellie Goulding’s live cover of The Knife’s ‘Heartbeats’ is the only cover I can tolerate (i.e. I love the original and hate Jose Gonzalez generic, uninspired, snorefest). Ellie’s voice, with it’s slight rasp, adds something to the song nicely. Wonderful news the that Russia’s coolest producer, Cosmonaut Grechko, has editied the hell out of it.

Dropping a nice chilled beat and some spaced-out synths in the background turns a nice cover into something pretty special. Grechko has actually turned the backing track into something a bit reminiscant of The Postal Service. It’s very easy to stick this track on the headphones and get lost in Grechko’s programming and Ellie’s voice.

Enjoy:

Ronika

It’s not the weekend just yet, but here’s a little tune that’s sure to get you in the partying mood.

Hailing from Nottingham, Ronika is a retro DiscoPop whirlwind here to blow the cobweb out of your 21st century brain. Musically this is real authentic sounding early 80’s Pop, particularly reminiscant of that period of American Pop that was on the tail end of Disco and the emergance of SynthPop. Think early Madonna or Blondie’s flirtation with Disco (and Hip Hop), the lead line on ‘Forget Yourself’ is pure B-Boy Electro while the squelchy synth bass is loaded with funk. Yet amongst all the nostalgic American musical awesomeness is a Modern British singer with tongue-firmly-in-cheek and an English sense of irony that would make Pet Shop Boys proud.

A one hundred percent DIY operation, Ronika releases her second EP ‘Forget Yourself’/’Wiyoo’ next month backed with reMixes from Mirrorzisland and herself. I can’t help but feel that this is how Pop sounds if people who love Pop are left to make it unsupervised (by people who want to make money). Or, at least, this is how it should sound!

♫ Ronika – Forget Yourself

‘Forget Yourself’/’Wiyoo’ drops 13th June on Ronika’s own label, RecordShop, her début EP is out now.

Frankmusik’s ‘Do It In The AM’ video

Here is the long-teased video for Frankmusik’s forthcoming single featuring Far East Movement.

‘Do It In The AM’ isn’t Frankmusik’s best song ever, but it is a cool summery Pop tune that could be his real breakthrough track, and the video show how Vince is living it up LA style these days.

‘Do It In The AM’ is released 18th July.

Van Go Lion reMixed by QUBIQ

Van Go Lion’s ‘Body Moves’ get’s played a lot round these parts, as début singles go it’s in impressive way to kick-off their career and sure to gain them some attention.

This reMix we have here comes courtesy of QUBIQ, who provides a deep, quite proggy, House mix with a big room flavour. Thankfully keeping most of the song structure intact the reMix transforms Van Go Lion’s huge ElectroPop into a late night floor-filler.
