Hot Chip’s ‘Night And Day’

Hot Chip

So after the preview we got of new of long awaited new Hot Chip material in the form of ‘Flutes’ the first proper single from their forthcoming ‘In Our Heads’ album has surfaced. On thing I can say for sure, Hot Chip are going to own festival season 2012.

It Hot Chip weird, you just gotta’ deal with it. You either like Hot Chip or you don’t, but their popularity would suggest that most people do ‘get it’. It’s been a while since Hot Chip had anything fresh out and it’s been a while since they were regularly playlisted here, so it takes a while to get back into a Hot Chip state of mind. But if you let yourself slip back into that feeling when you bought the last Hot Chip record, all those moons ago, you’ll soon realise how amazing ‘Night And Day’ is. Its’ got the nervous energy typical of Hot Chip tunes and a bassline that can be described as both creepy and insanely infectious. The bassline is so addictively funky I got a little concerned I might be a guinea pig in a government mind control experiment. This, coupled with Alexis trademark lament and vintage synth sounds is going to rule outdoor parties all summer. Peter Serafinowicz had directed the video again…I’m scared!

Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard reMixes Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

teed

Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard is on the reMix for the new Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs single, and really leaves his mark on the track.

The single, a re-release of ‘Garden’, comes fresh with a new crop of reMixes. the Hot Chip/2Bears wash on the track is quite evident and the combination of Goddard’s trademark deep grooves and light toytown Indie synths with TEED’s introspective vocals seems like a match made in heaven.

CHEW LiPS reMix Hot Chip, Bernard Sumner & Hot City’s Converse track

CHEW LiPS are on a reMix roll!

Remember that team-up between Hot Chip and New Order’s Bernard Sumner and Hot City, to release a track for Converse’s collaborative series we wrote about a while back?

Well, now not only has it gone and got itself a video but also an amazing, analog bass pounding, reMix courtesy of CHEW LiPS. In the end result you can hear bits of New Order, bits of Hot Chip and bits of CHEW LiPS, it’s an odd mix, but very cool.

Check the video and the reMix below.

Hot Chip, Bernard Sumner & Hot City

Hot Chip and New Order’s Bernard Sumner have teamed up, along with Hot City, to release a track for Converse’s collaborative series of tracks.

The track itself is an awesome 90’s House track, just listen to that piano and the 909 snares! When Bernard’s vocals kick it is it so distinctively him, kinda’ like a 90’s New Order reMix cut up with a Hot Chip track.

Anyway, just listen:

Hot Chip cover Shakira’s She Wolf

HotChip04

Hot Chip are on the covers tip again! The band recently covered Shakira’s ‘She Wolf’ for Jo Whiley’s Radio 1 show.

I love the fact that Hot Chip perform so many covers, not only does it produce some wicked output but it also show how passionate the guys are about music, not just their own.

So, yes, it is a bit funny and it is a bit of a novelty…but it is also actually a really good track, some nice riffs and some of the best vocoding I have heard in a while! I wonder what the band are planning to cover next?

New Hot Chip track!

HotChip02

Ooo, it’s nearly ‘new Hot Chip album’ time!

8th February 2010 is the current release date for ‘One Life Stand’, Hot Chip’s fourth full studio album but the guys have decided to tease you all with this, the title track of the album.

‘One Life Stand’ is a brilliant title and the lyrics do it justice. The song is a mellow Dance-Rock sounding track which manages to come across full of genuine pathos while keeping the dancefloor happy.

Hot Chip cover Joy Division!

hotchip

Hot Chip‘s finest cover version to date comes courtesy of War Child’s latest charity compilation ‘Heroes’.

It really does sound like Joy Division fed through a Hot Chip machine, every bit as driving and haunting as the original.

Hot Chip appear on the album alongside the likes of Lily Allen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Peaches, Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand and TV On The Radio, amongst others.

‘Heroes’ is released on the 16th February.
