We wouldn’t normally feature mashups and whatnot. It opens the floodgates to a whole tidal wave of shite that we don;t really want on the site. However, we are just going to leave this one here for you, because it;s so infectious you’ll probably be needing it for the coming holiday weekend.

Heavy Disco bass man Ali Jamieson has thrown together M83’s Oblivion with Tina Cross’ Koo Dé Tah’s Body Talk to funky effect. Having the spark of inspiration in-between assisting in the recording of an acoustic cover of Oblivion and making a mental link to FM Attacks’ Yesterday, which, as you know, is practically an edit of Body Talk, Jaimeson excised the track from his mind to your speakers with this free download. There’s a lot to enjoy here, if you know both the track you know what you’re getting with a little Ali Jaimeson Heavy Disco flair. Welcome to your weekend.

[MP3] Ali Jamieson’s ‘Four Thirty’ EP

So tracks just take their time. We first featured London producer Ali Jamieson’s Four Thirty  in it’s demo form back in 2011. Ali’s been pretty busy since then working begin the scenes for MofoHiFI and their sister label Heavy Disco and their amazing roster of artists, but it’s now his time to step into the limelight as Four Thirty finally gets a full release.

Four Thirty, as we mentioned last time it featured on these pages, is a wicked mixture of Synth Funk vibes and dirty Nu-Disco. A chugging bassline and some gritty synths give the track enough balls to earn the Heavy Disco title, but this is nicely off-set by some dreamy vintage synth stabs and twisting Funk melodies. reMixes on the single come from Holmes Price, Alizzz and these two gems from 5eya and Data/Debt. 5eya takes the track down smooth new roads with his laid back deep Disco mix. Dropping a hazy vocal sample into the ix adds a special touch to his reMix, sitting pretty amongst the waves of chilled sounds. The Robo Funk is turned up to eleven on Data/Debt version of the track. With a slight Italo flavour, Data/Debt unleashes some euphoric House hooks that roll atop a pounding futuristic groove. Awesome stuff. Did we mention that the whole single is free?

Ali Jamieson’s ‘Seagulls’

alijamieson

Most of the time Ali Jamieson if feeding you tunes through electronic rumors in his capacity as PR for some of London’s top dance music labels. This isn’t the first time, however, that he has graced these pages directly with his own music, his track seem too few and far between though, so it;s good to see he has another release in the offing. Out next week on Empire State Recordings is his new single Seagulls.

Seagulls is a smooth as hell House track that draws from both ‘90’s Dance tracks and Disco & Funk to create a laid back dreamy vibe with groovy overtones. The scuffling percussions and FM bassline lend the track a distinct early ‘90’s feel with an almost Orbital quality to it. This is accompanied by some soulful soloing that gives the track a loose Disco element that surprises when it kicks in, but soon feels like a natural part of the track. That’s some chilled cosmic sounds for a Tuesday morning.

Ali Jamieson is a total synth geek, synth journo and one quarter of the band J-Treole. He’s also the man who produced ‘Four Thirty’, and it kicks ass.

A mid-tempo Nu-Disco jam with a dirty groove, ‘Four Thirty’ expertly counterpoints gritty chainsaw synths with slick Disco and Funk leads. The track is smooth and sexy as hell, the laid back analog vibing conjuring up nothing but good times .
