Little Boots album tracks (inc. Phil Oakey!)

LittleBoots6

Pretty exiting stuff, two tracks from Little Boots’ forthcoming album, ‘Hands’, right here, right now!

Remedy is pure Little Boots, dancefloor electronics that are just that little bit more interesting than your average Pop song and a huge chorus, every bit as infectious as her previous tracks.

But the main event here is ‘Symmetry’, her duet with The Human League’s Phil Oakey, just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. So the track’s bouncing along nicely. Again, it’s proper Boots Pop. Some nice filtered bass and Victoria is working it, then ‘bam’, Phil come in and takes the track to another level. As with his recent collaboration with Pet Shop Boys he seems to dominate the track (I don’t mean that in a bad way!). Loving the 80’s spoken bridge!

I can’t wait for the album release (but then, I would love some new The Human League too!).

Backlash

Backlash

2004…one of the finest ElectroPop tracks of the year was undoubtedly ‘Loadstar’ by Swedish act Backlash. Brilliant in almost every way, the tune, and accompanying album ‘Heliotrope’, was a hit in clubs across Europe.

Five years and three albums later Backlash are back with plans to drop four EPs in the coming months, the first being the ‘Quiet Men EP’ and as the telling title suggests the EP is a tribute to early Ultravox.

Both tracks on the EP are covers taken from Ultravox’s 1978 album ‘Systems Of Romance’. The EP will contain the two covers as well as a 12 Inch Club Mix of ‘Quiet Men’ and an original Backlash track.

I gotta’ say, tributes usually give me the fear and feature mediocre, limp interpretations of the originals but here Backlash have really outdone themselves, both ‘Quiet Men’ and ‘Slow Motion’ are perfectly executed updates of their subjects. Hearing the old classic songwriting with flawless modern production it a real treat and Backlash manage to keep a real retro vibe whilst being musically relevant.

The band have seriously made the songs their own, all the time remaining respectful of the originals.

Whether you’re a fan of late 70’s-early 80’s SynthPop or of modern Electro, this EP will defiantly be something you should expose yourself to!

Memento Materia, who are releasing the EPs, kindly dropped a couple of tasters into the electronic rumors Inbox, check them out:

Rockets In A Coma

RocketsInaComa

Rockets In A Coma hail from Greece and are made up of Elektra & Java Kid. They make some of the catchiest, Indie tinged, ElectroPop you’ll have heard in a while.

They are currently gearing up for the release of their début album ‘Square Strawberries’ and here we have a couple of track for you to get a feel for what to expect. ‘Physcholover’ is some straight up modern ElectroPop with added sass, bringing an attitude to the synth sound. ‘Be Loaded And Dance’ is pure party track, a Hip Hop influenced chant-a-long, Elektra’s pseudo-rapping working perfectly with the rockin’ old-school Electro beats.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if we heard a lot more from Rockets In a Coma, they are poppy and fun yet keep it on the dancefloor.

I bet they are the shit live too, hopefully I’ll find out soon!

‘Square Strawberries’ is out in the last week of May on UNDO Records

Little Boots ‘New in Town’ video

Well, Little Boots is finally due a real life, honest, physical single, ‘New In Town’, on a major label and all the trappings that go along with it.

So here’s the video, shot in LA (as LA is where the song was written during Dead Disco’s final recording sessions).

And if that’s a little too major label and big budget for you here’s a good old Little Boots funtime cover.

‘New In Town’ is released May 25th.

Fan Death – Goodbye Horses

Fan Death2

Fan Death have dropped some more dark quirky SynthPop by way of a cover of Q Lazarus’ ‘Goodbye Horses’, it’s actually better than the original!

Interestingly (or maybe not…), as well as having been covered also by SynthPop/EBM project Psyche, Q Lazarus (the band, not the singer) featured Mark Barrett, one-time member of London Electro-Industrial group Inertia. Well…what do you say to that fact fans?

Emil & Friends warp up Little Boots

Little Boots’ forthcoming single ‘New In Town’ has been given a total reMix overhaul by the wonderful Emil & Friends.

This dramatic reworking is actually really cool. Broken beats, screaming solos and vocoder overdrive…what more could you ask for?

La Roux Vs. Lifelike

LaRoux4

Is there time for just one more reMix of ‘In For The Kill’ before La Roux’s next single, ‘Bulletproof’ is released?

Of course there is!

Saving the best ‘til last comes Lifelike. His really 80’s SynthPop, with a dance beat, take on the track has it vying against Heartbreak’s reMix for the position of my favourite version.

Circlesquare reMiexd by Valarie squad!

Circlesquare

Valerie crew staples Russ Chimes and Anoraak have got together to gang up on ‘Dancers’, the last single from Canadian electronica solo act Circlesquare.

The mighty reMix team-up takes Circlesquare’s post-punk, experimental, SynthPop by the hand and leads it straight to the dancefloor of an 80’s Disco.

Those Valerie guys just keep knocking them out of the park!
