Y’know, it fells like i have been waiting a lifetime for someone to do a decent reMix of my third favourite Simple Minds song, ‘New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)’.
Enter Bottin to save the day, ‘cos this reMix he has just dropped is awesome! Part Nu-Disco, part Italo and keeping everything that made the original special. Dropping a kick and an arpeggiated bassline in the makes all the difference, and then the song just opens up for Bottin’s synth work.
The Aikiu, brainchild of French producer Alex Aikiu and has just released his first single, ‘Just Can’t Sleep’ on Abracada. It a pretty sweet slice of Indie-Disco and an ode to late 70’s/early 80’s New York clubland. fittingly the man has been working with Chic’s Nile Rogers. It’s got a lot of early 80’s Pop in there as well as Disco, but however you want to classify it, it’s a damn good début.
Check the video:
The single comes packaged by reMixes from Egyptrixx, Azari & III, Mighty Mouse and Clement Meyer. As well as that fine lot check out these two free reMixes. Sovnger’s mutation into a French-Electro banger and chilled, almost Dubby, Space Disco from Stupid Human.
There’s now over 200 reMixes of this track floating around the internet, after one of the largest reMix competitions I have ever seen, but this has to be one of the best. There some amazing reMixes entered into the competition (I spent a whole day on SoundCloud going through them!) but this one really works for me. Cutting up and disjointing the original in an Electro stylee, but not so much to take away from the song itself. It’s a pretty crazy banger with sweet sounding retro synths battling with distorted 8-bit sounds for your attention.
This week saw the release of Russia’s ElectroPop/Dreamwave heroes Tesla Boy’s new single ‘Thinking Of You’, the second from their début album ‘Modern Thrills’.
We’ve been following Tesla Boy’s career for a while as, frankly, they are making some of the best SynthPop on the planet right now, and it’s good to see them with proper releases and proper videos (thanks to Mullett Records) ‘cos they really are a band that suits videos.
The prime example of that is the video for ‘Thinking Of You’ which was directed by Yoram Benz.
The single also features reMixes from Baxter, MAM and Casio Social Club but it’s the original version that is the real standout for me it’s a super slick melting pot of SynthPop, Nu-Disco, ElectroPop and Dreamwave that contains just the right amount of each.
Erasure frontman Andy Bell is still concentrating on his, now renamed, solo work and his latest single, ‘Call On Me’ has been given the Nu-Disco funk by Hey Champ!.
It’s a nice meeting of two worlds, SynthPop new and old. Hey Champ! bring their customary, epic sounding, space Disco to Bell’s instantly recognisable voice, the end result being a subtly infectious groove with some slick vocals.
Chilean Dreamwave synth wizard Barretso has taken, 1982 New Wave classic, DEVO’s ‘Peek A Boo’ and stuck it through the retro synth wringer, the end result being an awesome clash of DEVO’s chaotic post-punk and Barretso’s arpeggios and soaring lead lines.
Frankly, if this doesn’t make you move, or at the very least put a smile on your face, then you are dead or at death’s door.
♫ DEVO – Peek A Boo (Barretso Flash reMix)
DEVO’s new album ‘Something For Everybody’ is released 14th July.
With his recording partner, designer Janssen A.K.A. Parra, their deep love for all things Disco and Italo shine through in this smooth as silk summer jam. I’m just sitting here at the keyboard, sun shining through the window, loving the deep analog bassline in this track, I have a feeling this is gonna’ be on repeat most of the afternoon!
Overthrill probably isn’t a new name to many readers of electronic rumors. Having dropped some awesome EPs (and killer Mixtapes) in the last couple of years, German producer Sebastian Bentler joins the dots between the Valerie crew’s melodic, smooth Dreamwave sound and the Ed Banger posse’s Noisy French Electro.
And the point in the middle of those dots is pretty epic!
One a duo, now solo, Sebastian is pretty prolific when it comes to releases, with four EPs and a handful of singles under his belt in the last few years (Sebastian handles all the artwork too) and more in the pipeline Overthrill have somehow managed to consistently knock out banger after banger. Pleasing both the blogs and the clubs.
Overthrill’s most recent EP, ‘The Upper Worlds’ is a prime example of their head on collision between Disco and Distorted Electro, funky and in-your-face at the same time.
Moonchild is a producer from Sydney, Australia who is beginning to make waves in the Nu-Disco scene there.
Having spend years writing Hardcore and Punk tunes, Antoine “Moonchildatronique” Lubidineuse joined the ranks of the glitterball masses and turned his attention to Disco-House. And the world is a better place for it to. His début release, ‘Girls’, is a deep and funky synth Disco epic that gives France’s Filter-house output a run for it’s money.
¡borracho! have just dropped their long awaited reMix of Canadian ElectroPoppers AXXE’s ‘Hard Candy’ over on their SoundCloud.
We really dig both ¡borracho! and AXXE here so the pairing has gagging for a listen ever since the guys hinted at it. It’s a rolling, pretty chilled, piano driven Electro-House tune that turns AXXE’s Noise-Pop into something altogether smoother.
