Double act Retro/Grade (A.K.A. Serge Santiago and Tom Neville) are releasing their new single ‘Reset’ next month on Deconstruction.
It’s a big hands-in-the-air Italo/Nu-Disco crossover track that takes the beat, squelchy basslines and structure of Italo and throws in some soaring Nu-Disco leads for good measure.
Check the pumped up performance video complimented by some badass early 90’s CGI!
Italian masters of all things crazy Italo Fare Soldi have got their funky hands on Duran Duran’s ‘Rio’. This can only end well (or badly, depending on your position).
Spotlighting the tune’s mental bassline over a 909 beat whist dropping in bits of the song over the top is the path to true Italo enlightenment. Fare Soldi always manage to keep thing fresh and he they do a spot-on job or working the retro and the contemporary into a dancefloor slaying package.
It’s Italo heroes Glass Candy’s second official reMix in 11 years! The subject is Appaloosa’s new single ‘Intimate’.
At just under 6 minutes, the mix certainly manages to sound epic despite being quite lo-fi in it’s instrumentation. What comes out the other side of the Glass Candy studio machine is a hypnotic and engaging ElectroPop tune with Italo Disco leanings. Perfect for summer late nights.
Y’know, it fells like i have been waiting a lifetime for someone to do a decent reMix of my third favourite Simple Minds song, ‘New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)’.
Enter Bottin to save the day, ‘cos this reMix he has just dropped is awesome! Part Nu-Disco, part Italo and keeping everything that made the original special. Dropping a kick and an arpeggiated bassline in the makes all the difference, and then the song just opens up for Bottin’s synth work.
With his recording partner, designer Janssen A.K.A. Parra, their deep love for all things Disco and Italo shine through in this smooth as silk summer jam. I’m just sitting here at the keyboard, sun shining through the window, loving the deep analog bassline in this track, I have a feeling this is gonna’ be on repeat most of the afternoon!
Serbian Electro-House meister sevdahBABY has dropped by the electronic rumors Inbox with his latest reMix, I couldn’t help myself but feature it!
It’s a banging reworking of Sabrina Salerno’s 1987 Italo/EuroPop crossover ‘Boys (Summertime Love)’. Does it work? Damn straight it does! Even dropping a bit of Dire Straits in the mix it perfectly captures late 80’s TV Pop but brings it right up to date and straight to the dancefloor. Tons of fun to!
Brooklyn Italo influenced SynthPoppers Class Actress are gearing up release of their UK début EP, ‘Journal Of Ardency’ in July.
The brainchild of songwriter Elizabeth Harper, Class Actress create some really beautiful, really electronic, SynthPop. Taking the minimal sound of Coldwave but infusing it with a dancefloor, Italo-esq groove they produce something that is dancey yet deep.
Check the video for ‘Journal of Ardency’ directed by Patrick Cleandenim.

The sun is shining and it may be April but we can pretend it’s summer, no? To help us in our delusion Italian Italo masters Fare Soldi are about to drop a new EP.
Titled ‘Houstria’, the EP’s lead track ‘Pompa O Non Pompa’ ask the incredibly important question “to pump, or not to pump” and answers it with, well, pump! It’s full on Italo Disco and defiantly not to be missed if you’re parting in this fine weather. Also on the EP is ‘Stambulia’ with more of an Electro-House vibe to it but remaining just as ‘out there’ in Fare Soldi’s own particular style.
‘Better Than Love’ is a fantastic choice for HURTS’s first proper single (‘Wonderful Life’ bring an EP). I think most people were expecting the Spandau Ballet-esq ‘Blood, Tears & Gold’ but this tune, actually an old Daggers (HURTS previous incarnation) song, is probably a better fit for a breakthrough single.
The coolest band (and most hyped) in ElectroPop right now need to announce themselves with heir début and ‘Better Than Love’ does exactly that. Still sounding authentically 80’s Pop, without parody or cliché. The forthcoming single is, although described by the band as “dance music for depression”, and epic, somewhat uplifting slice of retro PowerPop, (verging on the Simple Minds at times even!). As melancholic as it is it can’t help but sound anthemic with all the drama and passion of the vocals sitting atop flying arpeggios and Italo beats. If the flavour isn’t dancefloor enough for you check out German House masters Tiefschwarz’s deep and dark reMix.
The title track is actually quite old but makes for a sound into to the EP, which also features the songs ‘Sugar & Whitebread’, ‘Covered In Bugs’ and ‘Shine Like Gold & Diamonds’, as it’s a pretty apt example of Glass Candy’s slick retro Pop. Italo beats and analog synths with Ida No’s sultry vocals.
