The Golden Filter return

TheGoldenFilter02

What a day! Kicking off with new Shy Child and rounding up with the new single from The Golden Filter!

‘Thunderbird’ is their second single after the fantastic début ‘Sold Gold’ earlier this year and it doesn’t fail to live up to the high expectations that were set. It’s got that Golden Filter bass, those Disco drums and the floaty vocals that ‘Solid Gold’ had but manages to be a completely different sounding song, with a different atmosphere, more edgy.

If you loved ‘Solid Gold’, you’ll love this. End of.

Metric reMix

Metric

Canadian Indie rockers Metric have been given a brilliant Electro-House going over by 80kidz, Japan’s finest electro export.

It’s a strong track with a burbling lead synth that works really well with the vocals, being piano led really sets it apart from the crowd.

New Shy Child!

ShyChild02

Exiting times! Shy Child, one of the finest live electronic bands around right now are hard at work on their third studio album, ‘Liquid Love’. Personally, I can’t wait!

To tide us over here we have track from the forthcoming album. ‘Criss Cross’ is classic Shy Child, bass heavy Indie-Electro that builds to a hypnotic noisy finale. It’s a great teaser for what promises to be an amazing record.

‘Liquid Love’ is slated for a March 1st 2010 release on Wall Of Sound, stay tuned to Shy Child’s MySpace for future information and you can pick up the previous two records below:

Versant (what Carah Faye did next…)

Versant

So, what’s the worst decision once great Indie-Electro act Shiny Toy Guns ever made? Quite simply it was ditching vocalist Carah Faye Charnow in favour of some reality TV wannabe, this has been proved by their disappointingly mediocre second album.

The decision, however, seems to have turned out for the best for Carah. Now based in Sweden she’s back with her new outfit Versant and dropping the kind of powerful Indie-Electro that the STG’s album wishes it was.

Just check these three demos here; from the huge Electro Rock of ‘Out Of Touch’ to the more intimate ‘Push Away’ these tracks would work just as easily on the dancefloor or in a gritty rock club and see a welcome return of Carah’s voice powering through cutting synths and dirge guitars.

Versant – Push Away (Demo.) (zShare) (MediaFire)

Versant – Quick Escapes (Demo.) (zShare) (MediaFire)

If I was a surviving member of Shiny Toy Guns I would be kicking myself!

Versant release their self-titled début album on February 17th 2010, until them go show them some big MySpace love!

It’s Van She day!

MattVanSchie

Matt Van Schie, of Van She fame, has dropped this solo effort onto an unexpecting interwebz and it’s a really nice little ElectroPop jam, it’s kinda’ late 70’s/early 80’s post-punk sounding track. Like a (more) retro Van She.

Also, this cover version of Blue Öyster Cult’s ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’ by Van She proper has surfaced. It’s from Australian radio station Triple J and it’s huge sounding with massive synth stabs.

CHEW LiPS: Seven

London’s finest, CHEW LiPS, are currently holding down a residency at The Fly Bar and each month they are giving away a free promo CD of a track from their forthcoming album. The day after the show the tracks will be up for free download on their official website.

The first of these is also their next single, released in January 2010, ‘Seven’ and today they débuted the video for the track.

It’s pin picture-tastic!

It’s a fantastic track and just makes the album even more eagerly awaited, although it’s out in January I have a feeling it will be one of the best records of the year.

Fenech-Soler: Lies reMix

Fenech-Soler

Fenech-Soler’s ‘Lies’ is a sweet Indie-Electro jam with a noisy chorus that synth rocks! For the upcoming single release The Phantom’s Revenge have given the track a Filter-House/Disco workover to stand alongside Stardust or Deft Punk. Pure dancefloor gold!

Fenech-Soler really are receiving a lot of, justified,  attention these days!

Ellie Goulding Under The Sheets

EllieGoulding

Neon Gold are just knocking them out!

Their latest, Ellie Goulding, is getting much blog love right now and it’s well deserved. Like her labelmate, Marina And The Diamonds, Ellie hails for Wales and you can hear that slight Welsh lilt in her voice, her début single ‘Under The Sheets’ starts off in quiet Electro-Folk mode but rapidly evolves into a powerful, intelligent, emotive slice of ElectroPop.

She Is Danger have whipped up a haunting DubStep reMix for contrast:

Fan Death travel the pop landscape

The American countryside is littered with musical icons then?

Fan Death are back (and about time too!) with, this, the headline track of their forthcoming EP ‘A Coin For The Well’. ‘Reunited’ is Fan Death maintaining their prefect track record for off-centre Indie-Electro that manages to sound ominous yet uplifting at the same time.

The video is just genius and follows Dandi traversing the last 30 years of pop after her car breaks down. It was directed by Dandi herself.

And the tune’s just a good without the video! The video features an extended cut of the track (to fit all the cameos in!).

Cinnamon Chasers’ ‘Luv Deluxe’ gets screened

I’ve been meaning to post about Cinnamon Chasers for a while now. Their album, released digitally earlier this year, ‘A Million Miles From Home’ has been one of my soundtracks of the past few months, particularly for lazy Sunday afternoons.

Brilliantly crafted dreamy electro pop that lets light arpeggios and atmospheric synth riffs float atop disco laden beats and basslines, capped of with Russ Davies’ almost ethereal vocals. It’s a pretty chilled and emotional record but that doesn’t stop it occasionally veering into dancefloor territory with the likes of ‘Adored’.

The standout track has to be ‘Jetstreams’, which is a combination of all the best aspects of the album, and damn catchy too!

Anyhoo, the video for ‘Luv Deluxe’ is getting the big screen airing at a few London film festivals. ‘Luv Deluxe’ is a sweet track that drags you along in it’s groove, which makes this video the prefect accompaniment for it (watch it and you’ll see).

I love videos that tell a story, and this one is a cute, if fucked up, little tale.

Clock it on the big screen here:

October 29th @ Village Underground
Future Shorts’ ‘Beats From Above’ Festival
November 6th @ London Transport Museum Friday Late

‘Luv Deluxe’ is directed by Saman Keshavarz.

And get this in your MP3 player, I guarantee you’ll want more!
