DMX Krew’s new album!

DMXKrew

DMX Krew are easily one of my favourite artists of all time. At one time or other Ed DMX has covered most of my personal preferences in electronic music, from Electro Hip-Hop to retro SynthPop, from Experimental to Space Synth.

it’s been a while since we’ve had and of DMX Krew’s Pop material, recent releases have been Experimental electronic odysseys and his latest album, ‘The March To the Stars’, builds upon this while adding a touch of an electronic soundtrack vibe. At times sounding like Jean-Michel Jarre by way of Kraftwerk this is a record that can take to away with it on a robotic journey.

It’s an odd comment for a website that deals with electronic music to make, but this album is just so damn electronic!

It’s good to have DMX Krew back!

Clock Opera

Levi's Ones To Watch - Hoxton Bar & Kitchen

London’s Clock Opera have been dropping some stellar reMixes of late but it’s time to turn some attention to their own work.

Their second single, ‘A Piece Of String’ is released next month but you can preview it right here, right now. It’s a raw sounding collision between the Experimental and the Pop. A catchy, summery song built on a base of industrial percussion and found sounds. Not many could pull it off, Clock Opera do!

Gavin Russom reMixes Château Marmont

ChateauMarmont03

Still pimping their  amazing ‘Nibiru’ EP, which drops this month, Château Marmont have released into the wild this reMix of the EP track ‘Monodrama’ by DFA’s resident psychedelic knob twiddler Gavin Russom.

Château Marmont’s tracks are pretty spacey Electro to begin with but Russom takes it to the next level of analog synth heaven. I love the way the kick drum and the bassline interact in this mix, creating rhythms all of it’s own, it’s serious ‘breakers in space’ stuff.

Spitzer

Spitzer

French label InFiné have got in touch to show off their next release, the first proper EP from Spitzer, two brothers from Lyon who make sweet, intricate electronic music.

Track three of the ‘Roller Coaster’ EP is ‘Too Hard To Breath’ and features vocals from KiD A. It’s actually a really beautiful, chilled piece of electronica with nods to IDM, Trip-Hop and Dubstep with a vocal performance that is reminiscent of Björk with a hint of Martina Topely-Bird (and something else I can’t quite put my finger on!).

Great headphone listening!

New Midnight Juggernauts reMixes

MidnightJuggernauts

It’s been a while since Midnight Juggernauts released ‘This New Technology’ and we’re glad to say the band are preparing to return with a brand new single, titled ‘Vital Signs’, on their own label, Siberia Records, in April.

So, to keep you going until then we’ve got a couple of recent reMixes of ‘This New Technology’ for you. First up is, no stranger to electronic rumors, Ccenturiess and the sweet rolling bassline of their Disco Funk mix. In quite stark contrast is the B-side to the limited edition ‘This New Technology’ 7” on Acephale, a dungeon & bass (heh!) remix by Babe Rainbow that fills your speakers with haunting sounds and a bowel loosening bassline!

Spectral Empire

SpectralEmpire

THISISNOTANEXIT have been by the electronic rumors Inbox again, this time showcasing George Thompson and Kyle Martin A.K.A. Spectral Empire, with these two tracks only previously available on a very limited edition 12”.

Spectral Empire create some seriously dark, epic, soundtrack-esq music but still seem to be able to work a groove in there. Elements of it reminded me of very early instrumental Skinny Puppy but with more of a contemporary House backing. ‘Innerfearence’ comes across like a post-punk, New York Disco, take on Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack, racing arpeggios and sweeping analog synths share the space with New Wave Disco drums while ‘The Minotaur’ is a deep industrial Electronic march that keeps from being to rigid with waves of freestyle synth noodling.

There something pretty special about Spectral Empire, there not many bands that can be experimental and danceable at the same time. The guys are taking up residency at THISISNOTANEXIT’s new night at The Drop (London, N16) starting 278th May.

Go hunt down their releases!

More from Buffetlibre/Amnesty International’s ‘PEACE’ project

peace02

Here at electronic rumors we are still all in with our support for the Buffetlibre DJs and Amnesty International’s PEACE project. Creating a ‘musical atlas’ featuring artists from the four corners the globe the Buffetlibre guys intent is to highlight (and raise a bit of cash to aid) human rights injustices around the world.

The PEACE album will contain more than 150 brand new songs by artists from more than 50 countries!

Always a favourite here, IHARTCOMIX’s The Toxic Avenger returns to contribute for the cause with a blistering slice of his noisy banging electro completely awash with 8-bit craziness and Yellow Magic Orchestra founding member and electronic composition legend, Japan’s Ryuichi Sakamoto donates this ambient electronic soundscape.

THISISNOTANEXIT release their Manifesto

THISISNOTANEXITManifesto1

Forward thinking alternative electronic label THISISNOTANEXIT, home to act as diverse as the raw Electro-Punky Detachments and Canadian ElectroPop geniuses Parallels, have just dropped their premiere label compilation. As the title, ‘THISISNOTANEXIT – Manifesto #1’, suggests it’s more than a collection of artists, it’s a proclamation of what the label stands for.

The combination of sonic experiments and quality pop music (in the best possible way) seems to define the artists on THISISNOTANEXIT, on the album you get ambient acid soundscapes from Brain Machine alongside the instrumental Bedroom pop of Professor Genius, the Nu-Disco excursions of Hatchback alongside the Noise-Pop of They Came From The Stars I Saw Them, and more dancefloor friendly offerings from the likes of Pink Stallone and Night Plane. And, of course, the utterly brilliant ElectroPop jam ‘Ultralight’ by Parallels.

These two tracks may give you a taste of what to expect, first up we have Memory Tapes alter ego Weird Tapes with their DIY Acid/ElectroPop mash-up ‘The Walking Dead’ and Young Monday, whose raw disco ‘Zaire’ is one of the more dancefloor orientated tracks on offer.

Weird Tapes – The Walking Dead (zShare) (MediaFire)

Young Monday – Zaire (zShare) (MediaFire)

Most of the tracks on ‘THISISNOTANEXIT – Manifesto #1’ are previously unreleased. The album consists of two CDs (or ‘chapters’), the first being a label compilation, the second being a mix by label boss and man-with-a-great-ear Simon Carr.

This is some highly recommended shit right here!

Comanechi & Ghost Hunter

Comanechi

Ghost Hunter have done this atmospheric, chilled out reMix for Merok records artists Comanechi. Their usual guitar heavy noise pop is replaced here with, almost Trip-Hop, electronic soundscapes giving the song a sense of beauty and mystery that the original version never accomplished.
