New music from Cinnamon Chasers

Cinnamon Chasers

What an awesome end to the week! Cinnamon Chasers, easily one of our favourite producers of the last few years, has announced the forthcoming release of his new album. As yet the record’s title hasn’t been revealed, but what has been revealed is one of the tracks from it. Dreams And Machines.

It’s the prefect title for the tune. Dreams And Machine perfectly encapsulates what this song is about, the two elements flowing alongside each other in total harmony. The Dreams side of the equation is covered by lush, otherwordly synths. Warm and swelling, the tonal palette Cinnamon Chasers puts to good use here is one of Sci-Fi landscapes, hazy imaginings and cosmic journeys. The Machines bit comes in to play with the pulsating Disco beat, and cut up, vocoded vocals. It’s a brilliant introduction to CC’s new material, and everything we could have asked for. A body shaking bassline and piercing leads, what more could we want. So stoked for this album, roll on September!

Good Night Keaton reMixes Gigamesh

gigamesh

Gigamesh’s Kitsuné released All My Life EP is still getting the spins round here, especially the funky as hell Don’t Stop. A confident slice of synthesizer Disco featuring the classic ‘70’s sounding vocals of Jana Nyberg. Here’s comes a bunch of fresh new funk for the tune from Good Night Keaton.

Good Night Keaton is Aaron Shanahan, skin basher for Indie-Dreamwave pioneers Miami Horror, and in his solo effort he lays down some serious groove. He’s making a bit of a name for himself with big  tunes combining the best of classic Disco and dreamy Nu-Disco summer vibes. He drops both right here in this analog encrusted slab of mirrorball goodness. Just enjoy, warbling Moogy bass, popping toms and twisting lead lines. Disco bliss.

Pati Yang’s ‘Hold Your horses’ EP

Pati Yang

She’s been tour support for Depeche Mode, she’s a legend in her homeland of Poland and a legend amongst electronic music fans worldwide. When she last graced these pages it was under her Nikita moniker, but now ElectroPop prodigy Patrycja Hilton is back to being good old Pati Yang for her forthcoming new EP Hold Your Horses.

Hold Your Horses is kind of a nexus of electronic music. Pati takes her 15 years of being involved in electronic music, and all the influences that come with such an illustrious career, and pools them into a genre melting pot. You’ll find everything from SynthPop to Post Punk to Trip-Hop to House to EBM referenced with Hold Your Horses’ four tracks. The opener, Hold Your Horses, the EP’s title track, is a beautiful mix of Icy Scandinavian ElectroPop and that kind of New York electronic Indie, both quirky and majestic, where Pati give an emotional performance over pulsating synths and frantic percussion. It’s followed by Darling, is a rollicking slice of Indie-Electro that’s catchy and raw. It’s a track that soon descends into Electro-Rock territory with a truly anthemic performance. Revolution Baby is the EP’s mid-paced, stomping epic, and it’s here where producer Joe Cross (HURTS producer and the genius from (We Are) Performance and Kiss In Cities) really comes to the fore. Kiss It Better closes the EP by injecting a little Balearic House and Breakbeat into the mix as Pati’s sultry vocals glide over a euphoric, sweeping track. It’s an impressive and energetic EP, and one that should see Pati gaining more worldwide attention.

Jordan F’s ‘Aurora’

jordan-f

Hot on the heels of his reworked Summers Of Tomorrow EP Australian SynthWave superstar Jordan F presents us with a brand new track just in time for a scorching weekend. So if you’re in the mood for something slick and synthy to chill to over the next few days, look no further.

Aurora is a smooth, floaty slice of retro Electro. Fright from the offset, a rich synth melody and driving Italo bassline greet you, pulling you into the track. Walking the line between dreamlike and dancefloor friendly, Aurora tick all the boxes for a blissed out nostalgia jam. The track rises and falls like the ebb and flow of a tide, carrying you along with it. This has to be listened to wearing shades.

Vincenzo Salvia’s new EP

Vincenzo Salvia

Italian SynthWave newcomer Vincenzo Salvia offers up the latest release on Future City Records. A new four track EP of some of the finest ‘80’s inspired synth that captured the very essence of the SynthWave scene yet manages to carve out a unique sound all of it’s own.

The Voyage EP kicks off with Midnight Breeze, a rockin’ slice of pounding Italo. The backing of this track is borderline Industrial EBM, marching machine gun beats and a relentless arpeggiated bassline power the track ever forward. But it’s not all hard hitting, this robot army backing track is tempered with some seriously beautiful playing. Salvia’s fingers must be a blur as he crafts, shimmering leads and soaring solos. Ocean Drive brings us closer to the rich ‘80’s movie soundtrack territory as Salvia lays down layer after layer of emotion synth work and melodies that ring out against sweeping cosmic pads. Seaside Cruise is, for us, the EP’s standout, and the track where Vincenzo Salvia indulges his Dreamwave side. Packed with feeling, this track really makes the synth come alive. It’s carefree, summery, nostalgic bliss. And not to be missed. The EP closes on it’s title track, Voyage. A perfect finale of ‘80’s synths, funky beats and uplifting melodies. We’ll definitely be keeping out eye on Mr. Salvia from now on.

Hot Hot Hawk’s ‘Rise and Down’

Hot Hot Hawk

Russia’s Hot Hot Hawk is at it again! This time the Nu-Disco/SynthWave producer has brought along a vocalist, and the results are fresh as hell. Enlisting Ksenia Popova to land the track a little female charm, Hot Hot Hawk hits the ground running in this smooth slice of relaxed summer soul.

Popova vocals has a slight Russian twang to them, which no only gives the track an originality in the Nu-Disco pantheon, but also immediately endears the listener to the track. Add to that Hot Hot Hawks’ deep Disco grooves, loaded with stabbing synths , bouncing basslines and shuffling drums, and you have a track fit for the sexiest of beach parties. The combination of pulsating Disco and sharp floating melodies is a masterstroke.

Cut Copy remixed by Eleven:Eleven

Cut Copy

We thought the days of reMixes of Australian Indie-Electro masters Cut Copy’s now-classic Hearts On Fire were over. We are glad we were wrong. Austin ElectroPop outfit Eleven:Eleven have whipped up a new take on the track that brings to mind some seriously classic SynthPop.

This one’s all about the big beats and vintage Synth melodies. There’s someone of Depeche Mode’s Behind The Wheel in this mix, especially in the haunting lead line. This mixture of nostalgic refrains and big modern synth production make the track quite unique sounding. Moody, with a marching dance beat, this reMixes shines a whole new light on Cut Copy’s original. Being big fans of the tune, it;s great to hear it presented in such a new way.

The Young Punx Vs. Alizzz

Alizzz

Out today on Beatport is the latest in a string of blistering releases from London’s ElectroFunkinDiscoBreakin MofoHiFi. This time it the return of Alizzz, the Spanish producer who graced MofoHiFi with his Neon Lights EP earlier this year. His new EP is titled Loud, and is packed with smooth jams and Electro Boogie beats.

The Lead track, Loud, is chilled slice of electronic Funk. Sounding like a cross between 80s influenced Nu-Disco and sweet LA Funk in the vein of DâM-FunK. it comes complete with a reMix from London Italo-Disco-ElectroDirty Bass crew The Young Punx, which we can exclusively première right here, right now. The Punx bring a little of their Italo-Disco magic to the tracks shimmering melodies. Reining in the fluid groove of the original into a tight dancefloor monster, this reMix sets out to ignite your feet with a storming digital bassline and thick retro synth chords. One hundred percent robo-Disco with an ice, melodic, nostalgic sheen. Oh, and you know how much we love electro tom rolls? Well, this tune is loaded with them! When the original’s steel drums kick in, you’re in summer jam heaven.

Alizzz’s Loud EP is out today on Beatport, 27th August elsewhere, via MofoHiFi.

Strangers cover Haddaway

Strangers

Still riding high on the success of their current Safe/Pain single, London’s dark ElectroPop trio Strangers have taken some time out from being all bombastic and moody to cover Haddaway’s What Is Love? I don’t think, in my entire life, I have ever heard a band cover a classic track and make it their own as much as Strangers do right here.

It’s bewildering. Any connotation, and pre-conceived ideas,  you have of Haddaway’s original, one of the biggest EuroDance hits of the ‘90’s, will completely disappear within seconds of Stranger’s cover starting. It’s like the song was written for them. Stripping the track of it’s staccato EuroPop bassline and Hi-NRG beats, Strangers replace what’s gone with majestic synth chords, brooding military rhythms and atmospheric piano. When they belt out “What is love? Baby, don’t hurt me” as an anthemic lament, you’ll instantly forget the shiny, upbeat, original and totally commit to Strangers moody, emotional vision of the song.
