I Am Noxious covers Black Eyed Peas

IAmNoxious03

I Am Noxious is fast becoming something of a regular here at electronic rumors, his brand of intimate Lo-Fi SynthPop is defiantly one of our tips for great things this year.

He’s just sent over a new track, it’s a cover of Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta’ Feeling’. A weird choice?, I’ll let him explain it in his own words:

“Yes it’s true. I’ve made my first ever cover… and it’s a cover of one of my least favourite songs ever and now you’ve got my version!

‘I Gotta’ Feeling’ … Originally by The Black Eyed Peas.

I have lots of respect for the Black Eyed Peas and their songwriting and Will.I.Am’s production is unique, but this one just kills a lil’ part inside of me everytime I hear it. That’s probably the reason why I ended up covering it. I guess … I wanted to turn something horrible into something pretty.

I guess it’s more of a mash-up than a cover really cos the mid-8 is from ‘Meet Me Halfway’ which is in-fact one of my favourite pop tunes of 2009! Excellent combination!”

It actually really works! In fact, I would go so far as to say that Mr. Noxious injects some real feeling, some real soul into the song.

Radiant Dragon

RadiantDragon

We were recently digging Radiant Dragon’s reMix of Egyptian Hip-Hop’s ‘Wild Human Child’ but we hadn’t heard and of his original material so when the German Londoner email us we sat up and paid attention.

Radiant Dragon’s music is hard to describe, there’s a touch of old 4AD darkness about it and it’s experimental but musical. Rather than, as experimental music tends to do, create soundscapes RD takes an experimental approach and writes an actual song with it. With some surprising instrumentation and and almost magical mix a spacey, atmospheric piece of ordered chaos is produced. Entrepreneurs take an equally experimental approach with their reMix, only they graft it onto some bass shaking Dubstep.

The Flying Change

TheFlyingChange

I’d not heard of Sam Jacobs A.K.A. The Flying Change before this email landed in the electronic rumors inbox. A bit of cursory research revealed a quite successful folk-esq singer/songwriter, very good at what he does but not something we would feature here.

However, with his new EP, ‘Singer/Songwriter’, he has dipped his toe into the world of electronic music with surprisingly interesting and listening results. Americana Folk with a big fat distorted synth? I’ll let you listen and decide but it’s a genre that shows promise! I think this foray into Electro is just an aside for Mr. Jacobs but one that was fun for all!

Jeremy Glenn

JeremyGlenn

Toronto’s Jeremy Glenn is a purveyor or neo-Electro-Soul and one time DāM-FunK collaborator who is gearing up for the release of his début single on YYZ Records next week.

The single is reminiscent of mid-80’s chart soul (at least here in the UK) with that pre-House dance groove and comes with an exiting reMix package including these two by DVAS and Panic Bomber. It’s been a while since we heard anything form DVAS but their reMix is a welcome return as they Disco things right up with a dancefloor destroying bassline. Panic Bomber get a bit more noisy with their take on the track, pushing the distorted synths and disco sirens.

Fotonovela reMix Groove Armada

Groove Armada

Fotonovela stopped by the electronic rumors inbox to drop off their latest reMix, of Groove Armada’s recent single featuring the vocals of Ben from Fenech-Soler and SaintSaviour, ‘Paper Romance’.

Fotonovela are a Greek duo who hail from the Undo stable alongside Marsheaux, and as with their label-mates they are masters of ElectroPop.

The reMix a pretty awesome retro synth workout. It’s a good song anyway but the pair add a cool arpeggiated late-80’s SynthPop vibe to it. The more I listen to it the more I’m digging it, the chords in the chorus and the sparkling lead lines remind me so much of the Pop I grew up with without sounding dated at all. I’ll defiantly be keeping my eye on Fotonovela.

Underworld’s new single

Underworld

The new Underworld single (featuring Welsh Drum & Bass man High Contrast) is really growing on me.

Underworld have always been innovators and genre barrier breakers when it comes to electronic, and specifically dance, music. House, Breakbeat, Techno, Acid, Drum & Bass have all been churned in Underworld’s musical mixing bowl and always been sprinkled with a little ElectroPop topping. ‘Scribble’, is a feelgood Drum & Bass tune with an ElectroPop vocal, not something that always works but here it feels just right.

HURTS mini-documentary

HURTS were recently featured on Channel4’s 4Play with an 11 minute insight into how the guys approach both the music and the visuals of HURTS, also commenting on how risky it was to release HURTS into the wild via big ‘events’ (both the EP and live show) rather than the usual oversaturation.

It’s a good watch for anyone interested in the band.

And here’s the full version of ‘Better Than Love’ from the show.

HURTS’ ‘Better Than Love’ single drops on the 24th.

Stay Ali

StayAli

When you hear the music of Swedish teenage trio Stay Ali and then see photos of them you immediately think “these kids made this????”.

Creating intricate electronic music with a definite Nu-Disco slant and an obvious maturity well beyond their years, Bård Ericson, Elias Smeds, and Johan Vati Grade just go to show you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. They are about to release their EP, ‘Vat:Auhla’ on Monsieur Adi’s Technofavrik label and if this track, ‘97’, is anything to go by it will be a storming release. Both the production and arrangement in the tune is something pretty special and show a real progression from earlier tracks of theirs (remember ‘Emotional Day’ & ‘Auhlau’?), the highs and lows of the song are perfectly laid out and the finale synth solo is genius!

Stay Ali – 97 (zShare) (Sharebee)

‘Vat:Auhla’ drops 24th May with four original tracks and two remixes by Owl Vision and Datassette.

Ali Love; Love In Darkness

AliLove03

Courtesy of the fine folks at Big Stereo, check out this leak from Ali Love’s forthcoming album, ‘Love Harder’.

It’s an arpeggio fuelled, sleazy, lament with a serious mid ‘80’s lead line that just makes us exited for this album release even more. The injection of a 303 acid build around the 3m20s mark is both jarring and genius, the whole song has a vibe of the best/worst night of your life.

Gypsy And The Cat; SHAZAM reMix

GypsyAndTheCat02

We introduced you to Gypsy And The Cat a while back, including their summery anthem ‘Jona Vark’.

The track has now has a working over by fellow Aussie producer SHAZAM who takes the laidback vibe of the original, gives it steroids, and kicks it to the dancefloor with a hard kick drum, Disco strings and some of the best electro-tom work this side of the ‘70’s.
