Grum; ‘Through The Night’ reMixes

We’ve already featured the pretty hilarious video for Grum’s forthcoming single ‘Through The Night’, one of our favourite tracks from hid début album and now we are able to bring you a couple of reMixes from the forthcoming release.

First up is electronic rumors staple Beaumont’s contribution to the reMix package is of the quality we’d expect from the man. A smooth jam that takes the Toto sample and works it into a mash up between the equivalents of some of Jan Hammer’s incidental music for Miami Vice and an Ed Banger floorfiller. Excellent work as always. Belgian Electro Rocker Perseus take a more pure Nu-Disco route, with a nice bit of French Touch and some Disco licks.

What I like about both these reMixes is that they are prime examples of why I love reMix culture these days (amongst the Nu-Disco/Electro-House/Dreamwave scenes anyway), the level of musical ability required. No longer is it acceptable, as it was 5 years ago, so simple lay down a beat and a couple of arpeggios under an acapella and call it a reMix (the amount of people who got rich doing that is unbelievable!). These days if you want to stay up with the cream of the crop were talking about writing basslines, writing lead lines…writing music!

It’s all good!

Grum – Through The Night (Perseus Remix)

The single is out 6th October, expect remixes from Beaumont, The Swiss, Tom De Neef, Perseus and Grum himself.

Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip’s ‘Cauliflower’ video

It’s been out a week or so now but I wanted to share with you the video for Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip’s forthcoming single ‘Cauliflower’.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but when I’m feeling listless and can’t decide what to listen to on my mp3 player more often than not I just chuck on Dan & Pip, I dig the electronics, the poetry, the delivery, the production. It’s all good.

From their latest album, ‘Logic Of Chance’ I particularly dug ‘Cauliflower’ ‘cos I have a soft spot for guest vocalist KiD A’s vocals, also Dan & Pip always make interesting videos. So enjoy:

The ‘Cauliflower’ single drops 11th October on Sunday Best.

Error: Operator Vs. Passion Pit

OK, first off I gotta’ say I’ve been meaning to write about Error: Operator for a while now, they (he/she?) are producing some of the most interesting and listenable electronic around right now, their début album is defiantly worth a listen. Unfortunately sometimes things slip down the back of the blogging couch in this line of work and it’s easy to forget about stuff. I’ll be rectifying this mistake in the coming days with a dedicated Error: Operator post, in the meantime check their reMix of Passion Pit’s ‘Sleepyhead’.

It’s an oft reMixed track but Error:Operator bring something unique to the table. The reMix is pretty indicative of their sound, chilled without verging into the dangerous(ly boring) territory of ambient, more intricate and subtle. Their music harbours some deceptively catchy lead lines too!

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Error: Operator reMix)

‘Sleepyhead’ comes from Passion Pit’s now classic ‘Chunk Of Change’ EP, still available now.

Snapd drop new Florrie reMix

Florrie may be currently pimping her latest Pop gem, ‘Give Me Your Love’, but there’s still life in here previous (Kitsuné approved) awesomeness, ‘Call 911’, yet!

Snapd (who we have previously featured with his reMix of Sunday Girl’s ‘Self Control’) could very easily become a real favourite round here. He has a knack for striking the prefect balance between dancefloor and Pop. With ‘Call 911’ he has sprinkled his clean ElectroPop production with hints of Electro-House and even Electro tinged R&B, but seem to have drawn out more of the song than some of the (many) other reMixes. It’s a hard effect to quantify, but if you listen to the other reMixes (save maybe Fred Falke’s) and then put on Snapd’s, the track seems to come into it own in a way it hadn’t previously, like song and reMix were always destined for each other?

I’ll quit waffling now, enjoy:

Florrie – Call 911 (Snapd Mix)

While you’re head check out their ace reMix of Lily Allen’s ‘I Could Say’ for a more deep and epic take on the Snapd sound.

As you know, Où Est Le Swimming Pool have decided to go ahead with he release of their début album, ‘The Golden Year’, after the untimely and sad death of lead singer Charles Haddon.

The lead-in single for the album will be ‘The Key’, the video for which has premiered over on their YouTube channel. Filmed during their performance at Pukklepop in Belgium mere hours before Charlie took his own life the video is a tragic reminder of the great heights this band could have soared to, they were easily well on their way to becomes the best male fronted SynthPop act in the UK.

Detachments’ ‘Holiday Romance’ video

London based Indie-Electro outfit Detachments are dropping their début album this month, on 20th September, to be preceded by the single ‘Holiday Romance’.

‘Holiday romance’ is an awesome track, with hints of Lo-Fi SynthPop, Indie-Electro and Minimal Synth, which manages to be sombre and danceable at the same time. We’re expecting great things from the album.

Here’s the video, about which the trio has to say “This is what French New Wave cinema visionary Jean-Luc Godard would have made if he was in his 20’s, on the dole, by the sea, in England 1986”

Enjoy:

‘Holiday Romance is out 13th September on THISISNOTANEXIT and features reMixes from Wrong Island, Cave Paintings boss Andy Blake and Cosmo.
