That’s some crazy-ass Synth work from a Dinosaur!

Polygon Palace
Melbourne based Polygon Palace, Australia’s latest weapon in their bit to talk over the ElectroPop world, have dropped this awesome track about a time machine being built in Tokyo city. Sounding a little like some of the UK LaptopPop acts but with a bigger sound, ‘Tokyo Getaway’ is SynthPop with a garage sound.
The track is completely turned around into a slap bass heavy banger by Cryptonites while fellow Aussies Cassian rebuild the original track times 100 adding a sprinkling of Disco flavour.

Barretso reMixes
As Tuff Em Up gear up for the March release of Barretso’s ‘Bright City Lights’ EP more reMixes of the EP track ‘We Won’t Stop’ have arrived to tide you over.
Aussie’s DEFEAT & Redial (who made it into electronic rumors top 20 tracks of 2009!) clearly show who the next big things to come from down under are going to be, both bring their Electro Disco A-game. Redial, again, particularly impressing us. Farfletched makes up the trio with a deep, choppy, synth string laden funker.

Berretso’s sweet Dreamwavey SynthPop full EP is due for release in March. Until then, MySpace the man!
Heaven 17 & La Roux – Temptation
Following on from their meeting of electro giants old and new, in the form of Little Boots and Gary Numan, last December BBC 6Music recently paired up ex-The Human League SynthPop legends Heaven 17 with current ElectroPop royalty La Roux at Maida Vale.
The whole session is a nice affair, lots of banter between the two acts, you get the feeling that this was a more comfortable affair than the Little Boots/Numan gig where Gary always looked a little uncomfortable, especially singing ‘Stuck On Repeat’
Anyway, both sessions are hit and miss (although generally hits) but for me the highlight of both is Heaven 17 and Elly performing H17’s classic ‘Temptation’. Elly’s vocals really lend themselves well to the track.

You can listen to the session in full on the BBC iPlayer here until the end of the week and digital viewers in the UK can watch the whole thing (and the Boots/Numan show) by pressing the red button (I feel kinda’ weird saying that, like a TV voice over guy, but it’s true) until 6th February.
Lo-Fi-Fnk are back!
ElectroPop duo Lo-Fi-Fnk have dropped a new tune over on their Facebook group. It’s been four years since the amazing ‘Boy Life’ album and three years since the last we heard anything from the Sweeds.
‘Marchin’ In’ is the first taste we have had of their forthcoming album and from this sample it looks like it might have been worth the wait!

Parallels; Ultralight

I love Toronto, and if you look closely enough there is some great Electronic music to be found there. Parallels (who you may remember from Kitsuné Maison 8) are at the top of the Toronto scene Featuring ex-Crystal Castles drummer Cameron Findlay, Holly Dodson and Joey Kehoe, the band are about to drop a rerecorded version of their single from last year ‘Ultralight’ with a huge reMix package on THISISNOTANEXIT records
As soon as this new Album Version of ‘Ultralight’ kicks in with it’s synth bass you just know it’s gonna’ be good. The Moroder-esq arpeggios drive the song into a wonderfully 80’s chorus that you just can’t resist. Parallels have mated to sound authentically retro without descending into any kind of parody or exaggeration. I really could be taping this off of Top Of The Pops!
Speaking as someone who has been into Electro/Synth music (mostly SynthPop) all my life, it’s tracks like this that just put such a huge grin on my face!
Club Silencio’s moody Dub tinged Disco kicks off the reMix line up that also features Detachments’ robo-invasion, which is a cool reMix that warps the track and reminds me of early Cybotron tracks like R-9. Also featured is fellow SynthPopper The Dark Esquire who brings his style of deep synthetic Pop to the package.

What can I say?, the reMixes are good, but it’s the album Version that has made my listening day! The EP drops 8th February, buy it!

The Dark Esquire

Bringing a dark, early 80’s SynthPop, vibe with him comes Brian Repetto A.K.A. The Dark Esquire. Ex-of Garage-Pop band Dumbwaiters, Brian decided to go it alone and experiment with his love of SynthPop and the New Romantics culminating in his début release, for THISISNOTANEXIT records, ‘Situation’
If you listen to the 7” version you have hear him wearing his influences on his sleeve, it’s a perfect blend of Dance-Pop with a New Wave bassline and ominous chords reminiscent of the earlier, more experimental, pioneers of SynthPop.
reMixes are supplied by Liquid Vega who turn in a deep, downtempo, almost Trip-Hop take on the track and Night Plane with their minimal synth slow-jam.

The ‘Situation’ 12” will be limited edition (screenprinted and handnumbered 300 copies) and feature reMixes from Crimea X and CFCF (which should be great!)

Goldfrapp are finally back (*really* this time!)

For various reasons I was kinda’ putting off posting this, but the internet is awash with it so just in case you readers haven’t heard it yet here it is, the new Goldfrapp single.
Just to be clear, I really didn’t like the last album, ‘Seventh Tree’, the whole pseudo-pagan Folktronica thing just didn’t float my boat, which was a pity as I loved Goldfrapp previously.
So, are my Goldfrapp back? Hell yes!, ‘Rocket’, the forthcoming single, is a sweet slice of Electro/Pop/Disco that is pure classic Goldfrapp. A huge sing-a-long chorus hangs on this late 70’s/early 80’s-esq sci-fi Disco tune with its big synth strings and New Wave bassline.
♫ Goldfrapp – Rocket (zShare) (MediaFire)
It seems the rest of the internet loved ‘Folkfrapp’ and is disappointed by this track, but then again, the rest of the internet also appears to be American strokey-beardy indie/folk blogs who wouldn’t know a good dance tune if it smacked them head first onto the dancefloor, so fuck ‘em! This track rocks!
‘Rocket’ will be the first single from the album ‘Head First’.
P.S. I’m still not convinced iamamiwhoami is a Goldfrapp thing, despite denials I still kinda’ think it’s Christina Aguilera!
The Antlers get the Buffetlibre treatment
NYC Indie/Folk outfit The Antlers’s track ‘Two’ was a twee little acoustic guitar excursion, not the most obvious choice for a good hard reMixing but those kinds of the unexpected reMix the Buffetlibre DJs have done just that.
What the Buffetlibre duo have done is created a really good SynthPop track out of the tune, it’s got the beats and the synths but loses none of it’s Indie (as Carles would put it) meaningfulness.

‘Two’ is originally from the album ‘Hospice’, available now.
Love Concept
Chicago’s Love Concept are a weird one, they sound kinda’ like a garage SynthPop band. The songs themselves are very 80’s, in line with the current crop of Dreamwave or Chillwave bands, but there’s something really raw about the recording that sets them apart from the crowd. Like a real synth jam session, it’s a refreshing sound.
