[Audio] Chvrches reMix St. Lucia

St. Lucia

Now, this is a bit of a treat. Two of the finest ElectroPop acts around  in a reMix sound-off.  Brooklyn SynthPop master Jean-Philip Grobler A.K.A. St. Lucia’s Before the Dive gets a beautiful, swirling abstract electro makeover by Glaswegian ElectroPop buzz factory Chvrches. That’s a meeting of minds we weren’t expecting, but we wonder where it’s been all out lives.

The result is a lush, experimental Pop tune (that’s experimental in a musical way, not experimental bashing some sheet metal and fiddling with the LFO way). Adding some of their own heavily effected vocals, Chvrches lay down a hypnotic piano hook, pounding industrial drums and layers upon layers of rich synths. This is serious genius at work!

Alex Metric & Punks Jump Up reMix St. Lucia

st-lucia_thumb

Hot on the heels of his reMix of Ellie Goulding’s new single Alex Metric drops yet another big floorfiller in the form of his take on Brooklyn ElectroPopper St. Lucia’s long awaited new single September. Also along for the ride is another reMix outfit of the moment, not sure when Punks Jump Up have time to sleep, but sometimes we are glad they don’t

More restrained than his Goulding reMix, Metric’s version of September is less dancefloor chaos, more easy-going party track. A squelchy, insanely infectious bass hook makes this track as a synthetic Disco heavyweight. whereas the Goulding mix was all about strobe light madness, here we get the groovier side of Metric. Even when it presents you with a big Rave build, it drops you right back in the robotic funk. Punks Jump Up inject a little bouncy fun into the track with their appropriately titled Funhouse mix. They have complimented their backing with a horn section providing a groovy little hook while big warp bass and Punks Jump Up’s trademark Acid building, burble away underneath select snatches of St. Lucia’s vocal.

St. Lucia’s new single

St. Lucia

Brooklyn based ElectroPop maestro St. Lucia is gearing up for the release of his new EP, titled, topically, September. You can check out the EP’s lead track right here, it’s also out first taste of what St. Lucia has in store for us in the form of his forthcoming album, due to drop next year.

Swirling is the best word to describe September. Based upon layers and layers of sound and like the tracks “reaching for the sun” refrain the track builds and builds, higher and higher. Whether it’s wave after wave of intertwining synths or the increasingly complex percussion, this track takes you on a journey, onwards and upwards. By the time Jean-Philip’s hazy vocals join the party the track is in full –on ElectroPop bliss mode. We have a feeling the album is going to be something quite special.

Charli XCX reMixed by St. Lucia

Charli XCX

It’s like someone, somewhere in the world sat down and thought, “what would the guys at electronic rumors like this week?” And then set this up. No, we haven’t stopped being obsessed with London’s eclectic ElectroPopper Charli XCX’s You’re The One, ‘played to death’ might be something you could say. We’re still excited about the forthcoming proper single release though, especially now we’ve heard the first reMix, from excellent New York Indie-ElectroPopper St. Lucia.

And it’s top stuff too. I mean, what could make the future noir meets urban LDN of You’re The One and better? How about a funky as hell DiscoPop bassline and, yes, a little tropical flavour? This reMix really plays with the vocals, creating new rhythms from the lyrics and cutting and swapping parts, big familiar chorus aside, it’s a fresh take on the song itself. Of course, this is all building up to a massive ‘80’s finale that’ll have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up.

The You’re The One EP is out now, the single version is released 19th August.

Lightwaves reMixes St. Lucia

St. Lucia

With the recent flood of reMixes of New York Indie-ElectroPopper St. Lucia is a welcome light in the dark that comes from ex-Yes Giantess man Jan in his Lightwaves guise. Jan has been quietly pushing out some of the most stunning reMixes in the last year or and his work always makes up sit up and take notice. we’re always glad we do.

Lightwave’s take on St. Lucia’s ‘Closer Than This’ works the epic catchy chorus to it’s fullest and uses it to soar over the now familiar Lightwaves Big Room sound. It’s a party sound with a hint of the Balearic for pure summery vibe. Jan’s thick stabs and sparkling keys just make this such an uplifting tune. Like proper warm weather DancePop with a big club groove. Do you know what hot girls dance to? Well, I do…it’s this!

Viceroy reMix St. Lucia

St. Lucia

St. Lucia’s  ‘Closer Than This’ has it’s fair share of reMixes to it’s name but this reMix from San Francisco’s Nu-Disco pusher Viceroy has two things going for it (other than sounding awesome). First, it’s official, second it’s free. Official and free you say? Why yes!

‘Closer Than This’ was the lead track on St. Lucia’s recently released self-titled EP on Neon Gold which I believe is getting re-released with reMixes soon. Viceroy’s take on the track is totally reMix package material, changing up the vibe into a slightly Tropical Disco groove. When you have horns and steel drums together you know the party is being taken to the beach.  There’s even what sounds like Seagulls at the end! If this is what being stuck on a desert island sounds like, count me in! Viceroy generally has nailed every one of his productions to date and I’m expecting to hear a lot more from him this summer, at a lot of parties.

Guy Zalaxy and Emeron Kale reMix St. Lucia

stlucia

Guy Zalaxy is the solo moniker of Joe from Follow Me, who’s teamed up with Emeron & Fox’s  Emeron Kale to drop this awesome deep ElectroPop reMix of St. Lucia’s ‘Closer Than This’.

Recently released on Neon Gold as part of St. Lucia’s self-titled EP the original is a summery beach Pop anthem that Zalaxy and Kale transform into a blissed out analog retro Pop gem. Taking cues from Dreamwave and Nu-Disco, but keeping things ElectroPop, this reMix is the kind of track that you can’t help but smile at. Loaded with big sweeping synths and twinkling melodies riding on top a squelchy analog bassline Zalaxy and Kale up the nostalgia ante and make the chorus sound just that little more epic.

Lenno reMixes St. Lucia

st-lucia

I’m so into Lenno right now, i dropped two of his mixes last Friday at the electronic rumors Volume 1′ launch party and the totally rocked the dancefloor.

He’s got such a gift for creating these massive, big room Disco tunes that just build and build. We’ve already heard Starsmith’s take on the new Neon Gold Records release from St. Lucia , ‘We Got It Wrong’. The Finnish relative newcomer takes more established producers to school with this absolutely huge chunk of Nu-Disco. It’s got that, now recognisable, Lenno ‘sound’, the choppy, bright synths playing against the Funk bass. It looks like it;s going to be Lenno’s year.

♫ St. Lucia – We Got It Wrong (Lenno reMix)

The ‘We Got It Wrong’ 12” is released 14th February as a pre-cursor to March’s EP.
