[Download] Futurewife With Sister Girlfriend’s ‘Summer’s End’

Futurewife

Seattle’s resident groove master Futurewife and ElectroPop three piece Sister Girlfriend seem like the most nightmarish match made in heaven, yet the results are a pure dream. These guys have teamed fellow local resident Tiffany Wan to deliver this tricked out Funk jam, Summer’s End. So sit back, put your feet up and your headphones on, and sink into some of the smoothest sounds around.

Futurewife serves up some infectious rolling bass hooks and Old School Hip Hop beats for his slick vintage Disco to flow over. Thick synth stabs and retro sweeps form a neat package that allows Futurewife and Tiffany Wan to roll out a sweet duet over the top. It’s an interesting combination of influences, but this time too many cooks certainly don’t spoil anything. This melting pot definitely works.

[Audio] Chris Malinchak & MNEK’s ‘Happiness’

chris-malinchak

New York Disco don turned Deep House master Chris Malinchak has really brought his A-game with his new single, Happiness. In fact that’s not all he’s brought; also along for the ride is one of the UK’s best voices (and songwriters to boot) MNEK.on vocal duties. No word of a release date yet on this one, but you can bet it’ll be soon. This is too cool to keep a lid on for too long.

Laid back and blissed out, Happiness is smooth as hell, probably the smoothest House tune we’ve heard in a while.. Both deep and dreamy, Malinchak brings sleigh-bell chimes and warming sub basslines to ride over a steady robotic beat. The human side of the track is delivered by MNEK, with a heartfelt and passionate performance that gives the song it’s heart. A blisteringly good combination.

[Video] Pistol Shrimp’s ‘Taking Names’

Pistol Shrimp Taking Names Official Music Video YouTube

We’re not quite sure why we haven’t written about NY duo Pistol Shrimp before as they’re pretty amazing and their début EP, Heart, has had quite a bit of play around these parts. We’re not omnipotent though and occasionally things do slip through then new. Suffice to say you should all check them out; starting with their new video for the deeply groovy EP track Taking Names.

The clip was directed & Animated by Stefan Hollenbach. It’s got a bit of a lyric video vibe to it, and you know how much lyric videos are the scourge of the music world, but when it;s not being a lyric video it becomes a wonderfully realised quirky animated voyage that’s hard not to love.

Pistol Shrimp’s Heart EP is out now and available to download for free here.

[Audio] Korallreven’s ‘Death Is Not For Us’

Korallreven

DreamPoppers Korallreven have signed to Cascine! When did that happen? Look, we’re like one of the top 150 websites in the entire world or some shit; I’m pretty sure that means we’re supposed to get a say in stuff like this. OK, so we would have said “yeah, great!”, but Cascine obviously missed the memo where stuff like this is supposed to be run past us. Seriously, just how is the music industry supposed to survive if people don;t stop whatever they are doing and pay attention to us?!?!

Anyhoo, Korallreven have signed to Cascine; and in much the same way that you might let a friend know that you’re not keen on Anchovies (who are you?!) when they offer you some of their pizza, the Swedish duo aren’t too keen on death (“hey, Korallreven; do you fancy some death?” “Nah, that’s OK thanks, death is not for us”). The new single precedes a sophomore album due out in November and is a gloriously upbeat slice of jaunty, tropical Pop that just seems to worm it’s way into your heart and refuse to budge. There’s a monster bassline and some airy brisk keys too in there too, loads of synth and harmony goodness in that contradictory icy yet warm way that only Scandinavians can pull off.

Korallreven second album, Second Coming, is released 4th November.

[Audio] Moderns’ ‘Atlantic Sudden’

moderns

Here’s the next instalment in the story of Let Em Riot side project Moderns. Releasing a steady stream of tunes, these guys have already impressed with the likes of Sub Urban and Lies and as they gear up to (hopefully) releasing something properly they have unleashed Atlantic Sudden as the latest edition to their fast growing catalogue. Prepare for some lush, emotive, SynthPop.

Moderns songs tend to be slightly colder than Let Em Riot tracks. Well, maybe not colder, but slightly less personal feeling Atlantic Sudden being an example of this. It’s waves of icy synths and densely layered vocals displaying a rich emotional tone, but a less introspective one. This is a glossy SynthPop sound in comparison to Let Em Riot’s more raw ElectroPop. Which one is better? We’ll let you decide that; we love ‘em both.

[Audio] Paradisko reMixes Portecho’s ‘9PM’

Portecho

Turkish Duo Paradisko, who you may remember from their storming début, Chewing Gum, have just turned in a fantastic new reMix to lift your mid-week. Taking on 9PM, from Indie-Electro outfit Portecho, a duo whos membership spans Istanbul and New York; the track gets it;s official release this week. Check it out.

Easing you into the tune gently, Paradisko use the originals moody vocal perfectly as they build up the atmosphere in their reMix before launching into an analog Disco Italofest. Squealing synths and stripped down beats permeate this tune, lightly sprinkled with stabbing piano and gentle bass. There’s a hint of early 90s dance in the mix, but a big chunk of this tune’s DNA is owed to Mediterranean clubs in the mid-80s. An awesome nostalgia fest.
