[Audio] Maya Jane Coles’ ‘From The Dark’

Maya Jane Coles

Mistress of dreamlike floorfillers Maya Jane Coles makes her return to Anja Schneider’s Mobilee this week In the 3 ½ years since her last she’s gone from strength to strength, including releasing one of our favourite albums of recent times, Comfort. The From The Dark EP features three utterly intoxicated tune, including this one; the lead track. Check it out.

Including some vocal work from French singer Moggli, From The Dark is an enigmatic and haunting tune that revels in Maya’s uncanny knack of being able to make deep, ominous tracks feel unbelievably warm. Low grooves and subby bass dominate the soundtrack alongside an unrelenting booming kick; while Moggli’s throaty, soulful vocals seem to envelop the music and swirl around it. This is stuck on repeat.

[Download] JBAG reMixes Scarlet Fantastic’s ‘No Memory’

Scarlet Fantastic

The awesome Continental Records has just released the second round of reMixes of 1987 classic No Memory from Scarlet Fantastic. The first incarnation of this reMix onslaught contained work from the likes of Luke Million, Pherotone and Mighty K, and just two months later the second EP is unleashed this week. This time around label boss Jerry Bouthier’s own JBAG duo leads the charge with this deep, Topical ElectroPop rework.

A departure from JBAG’s usual straight up DiscoPop masterpieces, this reMix of No Memory takes in some broader influences. With a jump-up beat and a breezy Island groove, the tune is more Chilled than we are used to from this pair, but still retains a solid dancefloor feel. Airy licks permeate a buoyant track loaded with heavy synth bass and a healthy dose of Reverb. The original’s vocals are used sparingly and with a haunting quality. Awesome stuff you can download right now!

[Audio] Blende’s ‘Running’

Gustaph

Here’s the latest single from one of our favourite producers, London based Swede Blende. So far this guy’s track record is nothing short of flawless and for his new single he’s teamed up with Belgian singer and frequent Hercules And Love Affair and Moonlight Matters collaborator Stef Caers A.K.A. Gustaph for Running. The single is out now on the inimitable Eskimo Recordings and features reMix work from Kraak & Smaak and Knight One. Check out the Turbofunk fuelled track below.

High octane Robo-Funk with that particular snarling Blende rumble; Running is a powerhouse of a tune. Skippy beats, growling bass, and picked synth sounds fall into place throughout the track to be complimented by uplifting horns and wicked little licks to bring an infectious groove that feels like both vintage and futuristic Disc at the same time. Gustaph’s now quite recognisable vocals are the perfect accompaniment, giving that track that extra sense of drama and flair. Blende does it again.

[Audio] Johan Agebjörn’s ‘The Right To Play’ (+ Korallreven reMix)

johan-agebjorn

One of Sweden’s finest synthesizer exports Johan Agebjörn is gearing up for the release of his new solo album. The ElectroPop, Italo and disco producer extraordinaire and half of Sally Shapiro, is taking a different tack with his latest opus. Notes is a collection of largely instrumental pieces eschewing his usual infectious grooves for more cerebral and emotional works taking the likes of Young Galaxy, Sally Shapiro along for the ride. The first single is the sublime The Right To Play, check it out below.

Despite being almost beatless, The Right To Play finds itself a strong and energetic rhythm. An intertwining symphony of synthesizer and electric piano, the track  is a dreamlike escapade that sees chiming leads dance playfully around each other. The result is, in one word, enchanting. DreamPoppers Korallreven step up for reMix duties, chipping away a little at the tracks light and delivering an enigmatic and moody mirror image driven by robotic beats.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse & Ronika’s ‘See Through You’

Mighty Mouse Ronika

Well, we’ve been waiting for this for what feels like an eternity. The mighty MiGHty mOUse and the also mighty Ronika. A match made in mirrorball heaven. Even before we we’re told that this was happening we pretty much just assumed it would sooner or later, and now it has in the form of See Through You, the new MiGHty mOUse single set to drop at the beginning of next month. Strap in, this is gonna’ get wild.

MiGHty mOUse brings his Balearic, Cosmic, infectious Disco A-game here with a killer bassline and a funkin;’ beat. What’s really interesting about See Through You, is that alongside the shimmering Disco groove, there a bit of a Post-Punk vibe going on, in a similar way to the whole post-DFA New York scene but with a distinctly British twist. That bassline warps around synth horns, electronic stabs and huge rushes of vintage dancefloor strings while Ronika shimmies over the track with an effortless cool. A glorious homebrew take on shiny Disco-Punk, See Through You is set to be the sound of the holidays, around here at least.

[Audio] Keenhouse’s ‘Argon Decibel’

Keenhouse

The Binary collective’s most avant-garde alumni Keenhouse is gearing up for the release of his latest long player. Titled A Future Past the album, coming early next year, continues in the Keenhouse tradition of deep synthesizer experimentalism, whist keeping things jazzy and solidly groovy. The first single from the forthcoming album is Argon Decibel; Keenhouse is about to get soundtrack-y.

A laid back, live sounding, jazz mood permeates Argon Decibel. Pairing the lush synths with brushed beats and a smooth horn section, the track evokes smokey café vibes but with an electronic Sci-Fi slant. Introduced by an imposing string sections, the track soon eases into it’s warm style, peppered with half heard vocals and looped effects. Keenhouse is thinking outside the box again.

[Audio] Falcone’s ‘Ghosts’

Falcone

Falcone, the artist formally known as Aaron Alexis, is certainly working his way through the Brooklyn production roster. If we’re honest we’d like to see him going back to producing his own material, we really dug the old Aaron Alexis tracks, they had a consistent sonic style; one of warmth and soul. Anyway, this new one, Ghosts, was mixed by AIMES, who throws off his recent Nu-Disco dominance for some of his old school Chillwave flavour.

And very Chillwave Ghosts is too. Reverb drenched vocals swirl about the track as cacophonous beats and waves and waves of lush pads swell and fall from the speakers. It’s actually kinda’ Shoegaze-y, a wall of melodic sound partnered with a cavernous voice. Electronic Shoegaze with soul, that’s Ghosts. Brand new genre?

[Audio] Leo Kalyan’s ‘Stranger’

Leo Kalyan

One of London’s most interesting artists Leo Kalyan has dropped another new tune to brighten up your week. Stranger was co-written by Leo with Shift K3Y, and sees Leo as ecclectic as ever while he roots himself with an R&B groove, giving him a solid base with wich to go musically nuts over. Keep it on a laid back tip!

Stranger is smooth-as-hell, Leo’s silky voice stealing the show, but almost jostling to hold back the waves of ecclectic electronic sounds. Keeping things spacious, letting every element of the tune have room to breather, Kalyan and Shift K3Y create a smokey soundscape. Stranger is both instinctively emotional and a multi layered synthetic enigma; turn it up and delve into it’s electronic mystery.
