[Awards] The electronic rumors Awards 2014: BEST REMIX – electronic rumors’ top 20 reMixes of 2014

Awards2014Best reMix

So on to the awards! First up is the Best reMix. Once we looked at both the long and short lists for this category it was pretty instantly obvious who would take home the prize. That’s not to say it didn’t have some stiff competition though.

The list ended up being part predictable (which we don’t mean negatively) and part surprising. There more than a few names who are no stranger to The electronic rumors Awards present, which just means they are being consistently awesome, and some new faces. All guaranteed to make you dance.

Taking on The Cure’s Indie-Goth anthem Just Like Heaven was a bold move for London based Parisian DiscoPoppers The Penelopes, but they pulled it off with flair. Who’d have though that Robert Smith would ever sound so Tropical? Upbeat and euphoric, The Penelopes weave a deft tapestry of summery good-time dancefloor goodness that transforms The Cure’s quirk-Pop masterpiece into a glitzy, mirrorballed, Disco floorfiller. Hand claps incoming!

[Awards] The electronic rumors Awards 2014: ELECTRONIC RUMORS’ 2014

Awards2014ER

Right about now we’re going to give our yearly shout-out to the most wonderful, talented, and creative artists in the world. The artists who have chosen to release on electronic rumors. Unfortunately for them being on the most cutting edge label in the world mean they aren’t eligible to place in the renowned electronic rumors Awards. Buy, hey, you’ve gotta’ take the rough with the smooth, right?

They year for electronic rumors kicked off with our second release from Box Of Wolves. Let’s Start Again got everyone ready for summer with it’s blissed out grooves and carefree mood. Meloder, AIMES and DeltaFoxx stepped up for reMix duties bringing the Deep House, Tropical Disco and ElectroPop vibes respectively.

Later in the year we were work with two long time friends of electronic rumors. French dance music overlord Freak You and UK SynthPop hero Bright Light Bright Light. There You Are was a monster Pop/ House tune that came with our finest reMix package to date, boasting work from the likes of Edwin Van Cleef, Starcadian, Cosmonaut Grechko and She’s The Queen.

We’d been itching to work with Australia’s Kids At Midnight for ages, and when she was finally ready to make her comeback we were honoured that she chose electronic rumors to be her outlet. The double A-side single of Unashamed and Vapours brought real emotion to a sweet blend of Deep House infused Tropical Disco with Holmes Price, So Serious, Daniel Högberg & Touch Tone supplying a broad range of dancefloor styles with their reMixes.

[Awards] The electronic rumors Awards 2014

Awards2014

Here we go again! As the room crackles with a nervous energy, palms sweat at the knowledge that careers can be made or broken in the next hour. The single most important music industry even of the year is about to begin and those present know that when the dust has settled, nothing will be the same again.

Ladies, gentlemen and those of a self-determined gender, it’s time for The electronic rumors Awards 2014!

Once again it was an amazing year for albums, despite the continual industry flailing of hands about the death of the format (and Röyksopp waving the LP goodbye!), that provided even more proof that those who infer that dance music doesn’t suit the album format are just wrong (and a little small minded). In fact, despite some stellar single releases, for the second year on a roll long players completely eclipsed individual tracks.

Anyhoo, another year of tough decisions, but we got there in the end. Some placings were obvious, some placings were hotly fought over. But we’ve written them down now so there no going back. As usual we’ve most likely missed something, or many things, but there’s no point you moaning to us about it; partly because there’s no turning back now, mainly because we don’t care what you think.

So just grab a drink from the free bar, sit back, and bask in the excitement.

[Audio] Leo Kalyan’s ‘Full Circle’

Leo Kalyan

Hello! the latest tune from Leo Kalyan may just be our favourite to date from the London based Future R&B experimentalist. It’s the next tune to be débuted from Leo’s upcoming mixtape, Stranger, and sees him sharing production duties with fellow Londoner and Bass man Grades. Here’s a  taste of what we can expect from Kalyan (big things we predict) in 2015; this is Full Circle.

Haunting yet infectious, Full Circle pulls off the neat trick of building an ethereal electronic soundscape, and still being funky as hell. Kalyan and Grades layer waves of half hear samples, voices and bird calls, amidst a sea of lush synths and delicate arpeggios. Leo’s voice curls over the track like smoke, tying the tack together with his dulcet tones. Feeling both Lo-Fi and expansive, Full Circle is the kind of track you can keep on repeat and just sink into.

It’s the season of giving; a fact that hasn’t escaped one of our favourite producers of Disco and House, Sweedish groovemeister Sweedish artists, ODahl. The man is giving away his latest tune that caps off a year where we’ve seen a little more of ODahl after a quiet stretch. Tunes like Your Love, released earlier this year on Pole Position, have been a bit of a constant in our headphones around these parts. Tuck in to his latest jam, 37 Celsius.

ODahl serves up a warm and involving deep sound on 37 Celsius. Blending several House disciplines into one comfortable whole, the Swede brings a little Deep, a little Bass, a little Chicago and a little Disco into  seven minutes of smooth-as-silk dancefloor gold. Vocal snatches pepper the track, building the atmosphere, whole ODahl’s solid beats keep the groove. Hold tight for the four minute mark where things get a tad warehouse.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse reMixes Achilles & One’s ‘La Musica’

Achilles & One

Pure Cosmic Disco energy right now in the form of the new rocker from galactic overlord MiGHty mOUse. This latest dancefloor behemoth is a reMix for German duo Achilles & One’s forthcoming new single, La Musica. Released just before X-MAs, the single also boast work from the likes of Kenny Hectyc and Magic Touch; but it’s the mOUse mix that dominates the release. This one is huge and hypnotic.

While the core of this tune is undoubtedly MiGHty mOUse’s throbbing, bass heavy, retro-futuristic Disco, he weaves a few threads of mesmerising electronics throughout the track. Pulsating Techno and mind-bending Dub vibes both put in an appearance as the tune expands on it’s vintage Disco in spacey ways. Alongside the hammerfall House piano and infectious walking bass you’ll fine magical echo effects and LFO heavy synths giving the tune a roomy, evolving feel. Excellent, and intoxicating, stuff from the mOUse man.

[Audio] Lenno’s ‘No More’

Lenno

It’s been a while since we posted a new track from Finnish wunderkind Lenno; so right now we’re going to post a new track from Finnish wunderkind Lenno. Simple. this one is the B-side to his forthcoming new single Wake Up. In contrast to the high octane big room sounds of the A-side, No More, featuring vocals by Olivera, is a summery, laid back, Dreamwave tune the like of which we haven’t heard for a while. Poolside Disco vibes to follow.

Taking us back a couple of years to a time when the Binary crew ruled the beaches, Fear Of Tigers was serving up new sounds every week and Oliver hadn’t signed to Fool’s Gold and lost their way. No More is a blissful symphony of retro synth and sweet vocals. Gentle picked guitar flutters int eh background and Lenno delivers warm rushes of synths and subtly morphing keys that flow together with Olivera’s hazy voice. Just in-case you get too relaxed, the man brushes this over a distinctly solid dancefloor beat. Lovely stuff!

[Download] Rogue Vogue reMixes Hayley Kiyoko’s ‘This Side Of Paradise’

Hayley Kiyoko

Kick start you week with this storming reMix from Chicago Housemeister Rogue Vogue. The latest work to be morphed by his retro sound is the current single from Los Angeles IndiePop singer Hayley Kiyoko, This Side Of Paradise. Everything Rogue Vogue’s produced to date has been gold. The Chicago resident has taken his city’s classic trademark sound and cranked it up to 11. Check out his latest.

Rogue Vogue doesn’t disappoint with his reMix of This Side Of Paradise. He’s injected a little Deepness into his sound courtesy of some pulsating, subby, basses but all the elements we love from RV are present and correct. The droning stings, the massive piano hooks, the 909 hats, the relentless kicks all intertwine to serve up an in-your-face warehouse floorfiller. Kiyoko’s vocals make for a good accompaniment to the track, and RV show that he is just at home with a Pop arrangements as he is with sounds for strobelights. Let Rogue Vogue bring a little authentic Chicago to your Monday morning.
