Goin’ Old School: Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams

In 1982 the Eurythmics were all about androgyny, world domination, cows and pretending to play music on a BBC Micro in a box with a rack EQ and a tiny TV on top.

Tycho reMixed by Teen Daze

tycho

Tycho’s single of last month ‘Hours’, has been given a dreamlike working over by Teen Daze.

Turning the track into an audio haze of intertwining synths and distant melodies, Teen Daze goes one step beyond Chillwave and layers the fantasy synths thick. Their reMix, though, is kept in line with a solid beat that give the track a nice early 90’s feel. Like a Chillwave Orbital.

More from Queen Of Hearts’ début EP

queen-of-hearts

Queen Of Hearts has been regal enough to let us have a listen to another track from her forthcoming début EP, ‘The Arrival EP’. This one is ‘Black Star’.

With a little help from Beatrice Hatherley (Kylie/Zoot Woman) and produced by Olly & James from Devil’s Gun ‘Black Star’ is a strange intoxicating beast. Powerful and ominous post-DubstepPop electronics that sees Liz sounding a little like Vicky Hesketh (both musically and vocally) in the verses, and a little like t.A.T.u in the chorus (complete with pitch shifted duet). I am actually really diggin’ the fact that not everything to come out of The Queen’s camp has been pure upbeat Pop of late, sure those singles will definitely be something to look forward to I think it’s these tunes, showing she has more than one string to her bow, that will stick with people. ‘Black Star’ is pretty cinematic too, if there was ever a QoH track I would want to see a really good video for it would be this.

VillA reMixes BeNi

beni

I’ve got to admit,  BeNi’s been off my radar a bit recently, after a string of awesome tunes he kinda’ lost me with recent singles. ‘It’s A Bubble’ was totally underwhelming and the whole viral campaign that went with it just an embarrassment. However, the internet reckons VillA’s reMix of his new tune ‘Someone just Like You’ is the mutts nuts, and whop am I to argue with the internet.

They are so right,  VillA injects the track with a robotic nervous energy creating some funky SynthPop that could easily sit an any number of classic mid-80’s compilation (as an extended 12” version of course). I suppose it’s time then to give BeNi’s album a chance, you can stream the whole thing here.

The Magician Jeppe Plastic Plates

the magician

Plastic Plates reMixing The Magician? You know you’re in for a treat there! Two of the ruling acts in synthesizer Disco in a head on collision where the explosion sounds like an electro tom roll.

‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, featuring Jeppe on vocals, was already a top slice of Disco flavoured ElectroPop but Plastic Plates bring in a shuffling space Funk vibe. I would kinda’ like to see this overdubbed into the Disco scene in the 80’s Buck Rogers TV Movie with Gil Gerard & Erin Gray gettin’ down.

The Magician (Feat. Jeppe) – I Don’t Know What To Do (Plastic Plates reMix)

‘I Don’t Know What To Do’ is released 3rd October on Kitsuné Music.

Petty unusual for Monarchy in that it focuses on them, the guys need new masks though. This version of the track is really growing on me.
