Chromeo’s new single!

Well, this is damn exiting!

After months of teasing, studio videos and descriptions of what to expect we can finally wrap out ears round the first cut from Chromeo’s eagerly anticipated new album!

The first single from the bands forthcoming third album, ‘Business Casual’ is ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’ and it’s just what we wanted from Chromeo. Smooth, sexy Electro with more than it’s fair share of  Funk the track perfectly displays the fact that P-Thugg and Dave 1 have lost absolutely none of their skillz.

Chromeo’s back baby!

My Robot Friend featuring Alison Moyet

The new single from New York synth noodler My Robot Friend features a pretty special guest star. Alison Moyet of Yazoo fame (actually, I feel a bit mean saying “of Yazoo fame” ‘cos she’s had a hell of a solo career, but if you’re reading this blog you’re probably most familiar with her work with Vince Clarke in Yazoo) picks up the mic to drop her soulful, instantly recognisable, voice over MRF’s electronics.

The end result, originally featured on My Robot Friend’s ‘Soft-Core’ album, does have a bit of a Yazoo vibe to it, and that can never be a bad thing! The single is backed up with a reMix package from the likes of Kingdom, Solvent, Alex Smoke and DFA’s resident Housemeisters The Juan MacLean, who get into some deep, deep House with the track.

modual

modual are a Swedish duo who describe their music as ‘Popstep’, which is a pretty apt description.

Mixing elements of Dubstep, Drum & Bass and Garage with Pop songwriting and chord structures they create a sound which is both Dubby, danceable and poppy. It makes for some smooth listening, the music combines bits of deep, dark, Dubstep and more Jazzy D&B (a la Roni Size) which make a refreshing backing for proper Pop songs.

This is going straight on my mp3 player!

Barretso works his magic on classic DEVO

Ahhh, the good old days of red energy domes!

Chilean Dreamwave synth wizard Barretso has taken, 1982 New Wave classic, DEVO’s ‘Peek A Boo’ and stuck it through the retro synth wringer, the end result being an awesome clash of DEVO’s chaotic post-punk and Barretso’s arpeggios and soaring lead lines.

Frankly, if this doesn’t make you move, or at the very least put a smile on your face, then you are dead or at death’s door.

Røyksopp grow old

Røyksopp are gearing up to release the flip side of last years utterly amazing ‘Junior’ album.

‘Junior’ not only made our top 20 albums but also had an inclusion in our top 20 songs of 2009 so if the duo are busting out the synths once more that cam only be good news!

Slated to be more instrumental, more freeform (maybe akin to their earlier works) than ‘Junior’, the new album, titles ‘Senior’ was conceived with each individual track being just one part of the whole.

In Røyksopp’s own words: “The two albums (‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Røyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimful with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experience…”.  Senior’ is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck.”

Check the amusing trailer, there is nothing like a fake beard!

‘Senior’ is expected to drop 13th September

Robots With Rayguns

Robots With Rayguns is Lucas Patrick Smith, a 80’s influenced dancey ElectroPop producer who has gained quite a few blog inches for himself in recent months with his awesome reMixes of Lady GaGa, Chromeo and NightWaves.

His latest output is ‘Sugarbaby’, an storming piece of retro Electro, skilfully straddling the line between ElectroPop and Nu-Disco, it’s like a poppier Grum (if you can imagine that!). TSTR provide a high octane Dreamwave mix that rocks it’s way through numerous 80’s musical references.
