[Audio] Edwin Van Cleef’s ‘Choral’

edwin-van-cleef

Original releases from Edwin Van Cleef are too few and far between for our linking so were pretty excited at the news of a brand new three track EP. We’ve followed Cleef on his dancefloor journey through Dreamwave, Nu-Disco and House over the fast few years; each time, as his sound evolves, he takes a piece of the past with him to create a funky melting pot of nostalgia and upfront sounds. The new EP is titled Choral; here’s the lead track.

Cleef serves up a classic Progressive House jam with a hypnotic twist on Choral. Playing with heavily effected vocals he created an edgy atmosphere that nicely contrasts a euphoric and arpeggio laden floorfiller. This is real sunrise stuff as Cleef builds up waves of razor sharp synths toward a humungous breakdown and a build with a payoff. watch the hands go in the air for the finale.

[Audio] Pat Lok reMixes Alice On The Roof’s ‘Easy Come Easy Go’

Alice On The Roof

Alice On The Roof is an upcoming singer/songwriter from Mons in Belgium who’s just released Easy Come Easy Go; début EP of bombastic Indie-Pop. Four tracks of alternative Pop and tucked away a the end a reMix from our Vancouver based homie Mr. Pat Lok. Settle in for some blissful, funked up grooves from Indie roots.

Lok revels in an array of funky influences for this stellar reMix. Easing us in with an old school Hip Hop beat and loose keys, Pat soon makes things more complex with intricate percussion and a metallic synth bass. Juggling a ton of distinct elements, Lok never lets anything overpower the track and seemingly effortlessly blends the tracks parts into four and a half minutes of left-field DancePop and summertime grooves. Eclectic and funky-as-hell.

[Audio] Colleagues’ ‘Somewhere’

Colleagues

We hope you all had an awesome long bank holiday weekend, but now it’s time to get back to work, back to the grind; time to face your colleagues once more. Although some colleagues can be a chore to deal with, thankfully some colleagues are pretty chill. Our Swedish Colleagues are of the chill variety; brightening up our workday with their sweet variety of dreamy ScandiPop. They are about to release a brand new EP, Visits, in May; here’s the first cut; Somewhere.

Somewhere is a skippy five minutes of tundra electronics and distant vocals. From the get-go, Colleagues serve up a symphony of machine percussion and piercing, frigid synths tempered with spacious, passionate vocals. A roomy and inviting SynthPop excursion with a sweet DreamPop feel, you should really consider letting Somewhere carry you away somewhere.

[Audio] The Sweeps’ ‘Touch Me’

The Sweeps

German Italo SynthPop outfit The Sweeps have just dropped a brand new tune, Touch Me. The trio have just had a track featured on legendary Italo compilation provider ZYX Music’s latest Italo compilation, Italo/Euro Disco New Generation Vol. 6; and this new tune, which sees them going more retro than ever, has been unleashed to mark the compilation’s release.

Touch Me is wonderfully nostalgic  three minutes of perfect retro Pop. Taking in the softer side of Italo, mid 80s European Discotheques and and classic SynthPop into it’s DNA, Touch Me is a blissful excursion through the history of electronic Pop music. Sweet vocals with a 80s twang, glide effortlessly over a symphony of vintage synth, burbling bass and majestic pads, to deliver and authentic 80s Pop experience.

[Audio] Apachelux’s ‘This Time’

Apachelux

Ever wonder what happened to the huge voice of Louisa Strachan from The Vanity Clause? Well wonder no further. She’ steamed up with a fellow Southend native to form Apachelux, a new excursion into the harder side of ElectroPop. With an exhaustive array of influences, these two are just starting their musical journey under this moniker and releasing their début single next month. This is This Time.

Loaded with moody tones and ominous chords, This Time sees Louisa taking up a kinda’ Bille Ray Martin place in the music landscape as her epic vocals glide over a succession of rapid fire beats and brooding synths. It’s a nice combination on unnerving music and warm vocals that makes it a particularly intoxicating tune. We’d be very interested what these guys could do with a little more dancefloor orientation, a little slicker production, as it’s a confident and highly enjoyable début that leaves us wanting to hear more

Apachelux’s This Time is released 13th April.

[Audio] Edwin Van Cleef reMixes Kindred Spirits’ ‘Folies D’antan’

Kindred Spirits

A brand new reMix from the man Edwin Van Cleef. This one slipped out quite quietly earlier this month as the new single, on which the reMix featured, from Kindred Spirits dropped. Out on Green Martin, the single is called Folies D’anta; which according to Google Translate means ‘On the old follies’, we’re sure something gets lost in context there. Check it out.

Cleef brings it, in warm House style, here. Easing us in with some deep chords and a pounding kick, Cleef slowly serves up a spacious atmosphere before injecting a growling bass into the gradually evolving proceedings. Before things kick off we’re taken through a haunting, ringing, breakdown that snare rolls it’s way into the tracks euphoric and captivating final length. A tune to get lost in.

[Audio] Yale’s ‘City Feeling’

Yale

City Feeling is the new tune from Australian ElectroPop duo Yale. These guys have slowly but surely making a name for themselves over the past year or so mixing up SynthPop, Nu-Disco and breezy beach sounds in a handful of well received singles. This latest release, City Feeling, was mixed by one of our favourite Aussie producers, and one we don’t nearly hear enough from these days, G.L.O.V.E.S.. Give it a listen.

We’re treated here to some slick, sunkissed, SynthPop with a Disco tinge. Boyant synths and Disco licks introduce you to the track that heaps on the groove in truck-loads. From the rolling Island percussion to the carefree synth stabs, this one is a surefire summer burner, capturing that urban sunshine playfulness needed for a top-down anthem. Yale’s breakthrough tune? Maybe so.
